My kid hates it. Does not okay like the other FF games.

I enjoy Final Fantasy games like 7,8,9, and 10, but this one did not do it for me. I found characters boring and could never get any special moves for them after 10 hours of play time. Much better JRPGS on the switch like Xenochronicles or even FFVII or FVIII.

Not as good as I would like but Final Fantasy is always the go to franchise ..

This game is a great port but the combat system needs to be overhauled

I am old school rpg kinda guy and this was not I had expected.

My husband said the kid is okay. It wasn’t a game he recommended to anyone. It’s not very interesting. If he was able to test out the game first. He would have never got it.

This is honestly the worst RPG I have ever played. Complete departure from the Final Fantasy series a total waste of money.

This is far superior to the PS2 version of the game released in North America and is the template FF VII Remastered and FF 15 are poor imitations of. This game was the first and mechanically the best MMO inspired single player Final Fantasy. It gave us the gambit system. A system so innovative it should have been copied or improved upon in every game with AI controlled helpers since the PS2. In short the gambit system is a means of programming AI controlled characters to better perform their jobs. Do you want the healer to be more aggressive with heals in the boss fight? Up the spell level used or change the trigger to be less damage taken. Want the black mage to hold back on MP while tooling around? Limit them to lower level spells or not casting if enemy health is low. Want the fighter to use a phoenix down on dead party members? Just put it on the list. The system is amazing and makes it feel like you're playing with competent people instead of stupid AIs that need constant instructions. The next thing that makes this game a stand out is the Job system used. Each character can pick two Jobs that give them weapon and armor proficiencies, magic abilities, and stat bonuses. Want a party of white mages with katanas? Go for it. Want each job assignment to be unique? There are twice as many jobs as characters so have fun. Don't like how a character is playing? Reclass them. This job system, combined with gambits, is what makes the game play of FF12 so good on the Switch and makes it in some ways better than Dragon Quest 11S, it's closest competitor. The story and art are where this game is a little weak. The story is solid in and of itself but is a very dry narrative drawing stylistic inspiration from Star Wars while focusing on politics, shadow governments, and WMDs. It can't decide who the main character is either, seeming to have a different lead for different sections of the game. Some characters feel like they should leave when they have completed their personal story arcs but stay just because they are established party members. That is a little odd for a fantasy game and is made even worse by the often dull visuals with many characters and locations looking like they are in desperate need of a good bath. Comparing FF12 to Dragon Quest 11S or FFX where the narrative is more consistently focused and the art and characters are all much more vibrant makes this seem worse then it is. For reference Dragon Quest 11S has a very simple AI system for party members which is no where near as in depth as the Gambit System but is two generations newer, much better graphics, a more cohesive story, a very similar leveling system that has a pseudo job system built in, and is just as pick up and go friendly if someone is looking for a new RPG but are not sure about this one. All in all this game is a great unique experience with a surprising amount of replay-ability and is a great "on the go" option with the Nintendo Switch. If the visuals and narrative were a hair better it would be a five out of five.

Final Fantasy XII is my favorite Final Fantasy game, mainly because of the art style and world-building. Final Fantasy XII is a super long game, and one that I never thought would be brought to Switch, but now there are four mainline (more if you count X-2 and XV Pocket Edition) Final Fantasy games on Switch. The port of XII was done by Virtuos, who did an awesome job with both the port of XII to the Switch as well as X/X-2 HD Remaster to the Switch. The performance is really good, and it looks better than I thought it would.

While slow to start, FFXII is easily one of the best entries into the series.

The gambit system brings a big change to the combat of Final Fantasy. If you were not a fan of mashing a button to get through a fight, this could be the game for you.
