I have been wanting to pick this show up on Blu-ray for quite some time, as I've had the film (Serenity) on Blu-ray for almost a year. Of course I have access to all the episodes on Netflix, so I was willing to wait for a good deal, and that's exactly what I got from Best Buy. I bought this Blu-ray for $12.99 along with another $40 in TV seasons, as Best Buy was having a promotion where you get a free $10 Gift Card when you spend more than $50 on TV shows. I can't wait to watch all the episodes on Blu-ray, but what I'm really looking forward to is watching the extra features, especially the deleted scenes! I just wish there were more than there are, but some is better than none.

Do you like westerns, drama's, comedies, or SciFi? If you're into any of these genres, you'll like this show. This Blu-ray set of the complete series comes with additional behind the scenes footage, and commentary from the cast and Joss (which is totally worth buying this, even if you already have access to a different version of the series).

I missed seeing Firefly when it was broadcast, picked this up to see what the hype was all about. Enjoyed watching the series, but prefer Babylon 5.

Firefly was a great TV show, and this set is probably the best representation of the TV show that you will find out there. That isn't to say that Firefly on Blu-ray isn't without its problems. The picture quality in this series is no where near the Serenity movie that was released a few years later. Special effects are kind of blurry and background detail can be inconsistent. That being said, the source material is probably the cause here, and I don't think we'll get a better transfer without extensive remastering. The DTS HD audio track is quite strong however, and sounds excellent. The series is also loaded with great audio commentary tracks and a reunion special. Is all that worth the original $50 asking price? Maybe not, if you already own the series. But if you don't, and are a fan of Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion or the genre, you'll find plenty to like here. Speaking of price, I think the greatest thing about this set currently is the price. The Blu-ray set can be had for $14.99 currently at Best Buy. For that amount of money, this really falls into no-brainer territory. If you really hate space, and sci-fi you can look past this set. But for all others buy with confidence.

If you don't already own this series, well then go out and pick it up and get in on what everybody else is "raving"about. This was a neat little show that suffered for a lack of advertising during its prime. Too bad. Great storylines, characters, and acting. The special effects were good for the budget as well. Just ashame that the studio didn't try and seek a larger audience out. I relplaced the DVD version of this series and feel that the sound is better quality, and that the transfer quality is OK, but feel it's probably limited by the source material (again too bad they didn't have more budget for better effects which are rendered in lower resolutions). Bottom line, look for it on sale, pick it up and enjoy the series!!!

I was a total fan of this show when it was on Fox, but evidentally Fox didn't think as much of the series. They couldn't find a place for it in their schedule, thus the ratings were not as good as hoped for. And now we have the Blu-ray of this short-lived series to enjoy and watch whenever we want. Joss Whedon (Marvel's The Avengers) produced this show from his heart, and created characters that are still real to us fans. Nathan Fillion (Castle) is the captain of a Firefly-class spaceship named Serenity and he and his crew will do anything legal or illegal to make a living. All the action-adventure a person could want, and a very good understory that sets us up for a thrilling climax each episode. Great addition to anyone's collection.

Firefly is an instant classic, with everything you'd expect from its creator, Joss Whedon. The man who brought us Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse, and more recently, a little movie called The Avengers, introduces us to Captain Malcom "Mal" Reynolds, the captain of the Firefly class starship Serenity, and his ragtag group of crew, and passengers. Don't want to get too into the plot of the show, since it's been written about at great length over the last decade or so, but it's got everything we've come to expect from Joss.. action, adventure, humor, and everything in between.. If you're a fan of the work of Joss, or just of really good sci-fi with western overtones, this is a show I would highly suggest you get into.

While I could go on about the series itself--it is well worth watching--I'll focus on the set itself. Blu-ray does not disappoint with the image and audio quality of this series. One thing that threw me for a moment was that the order seemed off--the first episode on the disk one was not the first episode aired. Research uncovered that the actual pilot was not shown until late in the series and that the order on the disks were as intended by Whedon. Moving the pilot back to the beginning made more sense and provided a better introduction to the series. I have not explored all of the bonus features but as a fan of the series, this was a great purchase.

Each character is essential, most if not all are endearing, no "Dr. Smith's" (as in "Lost In Space"). Each story grabs you, reveals characters. The science and technology are very plausible and elegant. It is a shame and a wonder the series did not continue. Perhaps a couple episodes of "Big Bang Theory" where the boys start a movement to incorporate Firefly and take it public among fans to fund a series of Firefly movies as profound as "Star Wars" could happen. The same players could pick up the storyline, just 10 years later (listen to the commentaries with the Firefly movie "Serenity"). Deceased characters could return as inspirations, like "Obi-wan."

"Firefly" is a much-loved sci-fi series, often referred to as a "space western." Having it on Blu-Ray is terrific, and we watch it periodically, even though there are few episodes. Like "The Prisoner" from 1967, this is an iconic bit of television. Be sure to also see the movie "Serenity," which wrapped up the story line regarding Simon and River. Several great episodes in the series. "Objects in Space" presents right triumphing over strength, and it and the "Serenity" movie tie together and highlight the importance of paying attention and questioning the utterances of the powerful.

I knew as soon as I started to like this show, it did not stand a chance! That fox cancelled this show, and kept on its other garbage always amazed me. Garbage like Home Improvement was on for several years, and this gets cancelled after part of one season. The writing was wonderful, and you could tell the actors loved their roles. The fact that there was a successful movie made AFTER the show was cancelled says quite a lot. This is my 4th set, as i keep loaning them out to friends, and wind up giving it to them after they tell me how much they love it.

First of all let me point out that this series is one of the best series ever cancelled unjustly after a first season. This is a sci-fi/western with great casting, better dialogue and great special effects. I personally hate westerns and don't care for most sci-fi, and i love this series and it's movie that came after called Serenity. The blu-ray collection has one disc less than it's dvd counterpart, but has more features and better high definition. uhm, not sure what else i can say, so go buy it now! :D

If you've seen Firefly then I really don't need to convince you that owning the series is worth it; you probably already do, actually. If you've not seen Firefly, you really need to either find a friend that owns it and watch their season and then go buy your own, or find SOME way to watch the series. It's one of the best sci-fi shows I've ever seen, but it's got a wild west, cowboyish element to it, as well. The casting is perfect and the story is fantastic. I dunno, it really is brilliant. Buy it.

If you have not seen Firefly, you have missed out. Firefly is not what you would think at first glance. Do not judge it based on the idea of your dislike of space shows. This show stands out because it is a show about people that just happen to be in space. The direction, writing and performances by all make it a marvel to behold with an inherent characteristic that makes you want to watch the show again and again. The tragedy is that the show was cancelled after only 14 episodes.

Some friends reccomended this series to my husband and I a few years ago. They loaned us their copy and we binge-watched it in just a few days. It was wonderful and we were so sad it was such a short lived-series. My husband and I were discussing recently how we would like to watch it again someday so I purchased this as a gift to him for Christmas. He was thrilled! We can't wait to watch it again...and then be sad that it is over after 1 season.

I never saw this series in it's run on Fox. I found out about it from a friend who told me about the fan loyalty it inspired. Then I saw Serenity, the concluding movie. I enjoyed it, and it left me with the feeling I had missed something. I looked it up saw all the rave reviews. Therefore, this purchase. I'm glad I bought it. Now I understand what all the talk was about. It's an experience you won't want to miss. Highly recommended.

I was a fan of the movie "Serenity" before I even saw the show. It was great to watch the events that lead up to the movie. The effects/graphics are not up to the standards of what we want in today's cinematic movies, BUT the plot keeps you into each episode. Sad that the show is finished, which I believe it would have lasted another 8 years. Definite must buy if you want "something different" and keep yourself entertained with a unique tv show.

If you're as big a fan of "Firefly" the TV series as I am, this is a must-have DVD set. Besides adventure and humor, it has the best theme song of any series I can remember. I wish the movie "Serenity" could have been bundled with it but it's no big deal to buy it separately. The extras in this set are great fun and make you wish the whole cast could be reunited for another movie. I'm glad I found this set at Best Buy for a great price.

I love this series, and it just looks amazing in blue-ray. Even if you own the series on dvd, i recommend you get this on blu-ray. It looks fantastic, sound quality is encapsulating, and the story is sooo good (especially if you watch Serenity, the sequel film.) I find this series to better than the original Star Trek series, and the Star Wars prequels... So iif you like those type of shows, you'll love this.
