Alta is wonderful. Grab a bitbelt to keep it safe
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife and I love our Alta. Its like the flex being small however with the heads up display it gives you real time readouts without having to log into your phone like you did with the flex. Its smaller than the charge and looks really good on your wrist. We both give it two thumbs up. Only advise I would give is to grab a bitbelt to keep it safe from becoming unclasped.

Works well and does more than I expected
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The device is nicely styled and comfortable and easy to wear. The band is really easy to remove and reinstall for cleaning or to change bands. It does a great job of sensing when I am running or cycling and logging that activity. The sand blasted finish on the sides of the device is a bit delicate - I bumped the band against an adjacent watch and it marked the sand blasted area immediately and permanently. I am hoping that they eventually will have a device that I can wear while swimming and that will track that activity automatically. This device, and the rest of the current Fitbit lineup, will not tolerate immersion in water if you want it to survive. The extra feature I really like is the way it vibrates when I get a call on my phone and the way it vibrates and shows the initial words of text messages when they are received. These minimal smart watch functions are surprisingly useful, and I never would have known this if I hadn't gotten this device. The fact that it does not have an altimeter does not create an issue for me, because I don't run stairs as a fitness activity.

FitBit Alta performs exactly as advertised
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed a replacement for my defective Jawbone UP2 band, and I decided to give FitBit a try. After doing some product research, I decided that FitBit Alta had the features that I wanted (monitoring steps and sleep), and I discovered that the best deal available was with Best Buy! My local Best Buy had what I wanted in its inventory, and it was offered at a very reasonable price. I am very happy with my new FitBit Alta, and it is performing exactly as well as the advertising and product reviews claim. Thanks, Best Buy!

Great tracker...yet some quirks
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the FitBit Alta after purchasing the Apple iWatch only to learn that the iWatch is not the most accurate at activity tracking. I had one of the earlier FitBit's but couldn't find the charger and saw that the device features have improved. I was contemplating purchasing the FitBit Blaze and FitBit Surge based on the features and reviews but found them to be bulky once I looked at them in person. Not to mention, although the FitBit Alta can be used as a watch, I prefer to wear my own watch and wrist jewelry so the Alta was the better option for me for fashion reasons. I really wanted a device to track calories burned and steps taken on a daily basis. I also have the FitBit scale which pairs nicely with the features of the Alta. I purchased the Alta from a Manhattan Best Buy and hopped in a cab and thought I could use it straight out of the box so I took it out of the box while in the cab and with all of the bouncing around in the cab and then walking to my destination, the Alta already registered steps by simply walking/driving with it in the box (73 steps registered) - I never put it on my wrist. Since then I notice on occasion at midnight when the device should zero out the previous days accomplishments it starts off with 73 steps. Kind of annoying and there is no way to reset it (I googled to find a solution to this and it seemed like the only one was to go back to the store and replace the device and that would have been too much of a hassle). Aside from that minor quirk, I have no other issue with the device. It lasts for days without needing to be charged. I never take it off except for when I shower and need to charge it and the wristband has caused no irritation to my wrist unlike other comments suggesting otherwise. If I am working out and sweating, if the band is on too tight it can cause a minor itching but I just loosen the band and there is no further issue. By tapping on the screen you can see the current time, steps taken, miles traveled, calories burned, number of minutes active and battery life. It has a silent alarm feature which is a more humane way of waking up and that I prefer to use over my alarm clock. The device also vibrates to remind you to get up and take a few steps if you've been inactive for a while. Initially kind of annoying but now I don't barely notice these reminders. I really wish they could figure out how to build-in a heart rate monitor feature (which I know is available on the other FitBit models) but again I prefer the sleekness of this model. I think the app works great, no complaints as it has plenty of features that makes other fitness apps less meaningful if you decide to go with FitBit. I considered many other devices but liked the sleekness of the Alta as some of the other fitness watches look like something you'd need if you worked for NASA (doing waayyyy to much). I'd recommend buying and would give it 4.5 stars if that was an option.

This Woman's New Best Friend
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fitbit has become my new best frend. I love the features that measure steps taken, miles walked, calories burned, minutes of cardio, and my sleep patterns. Logging my food intake keeps me honest, and it helps me to make better choices. It gives me incentive to drink more water and walk throughout the day to meet my 250 steps per hour for 9 hours a day. I chose this Alta version, because the slender shape was more in keeping with my idea of what looked best, but I had to sacrifice having the Fitbit count flights of stairs climbed. Further, I see that I can buy other accessories and wear the unit in a necklace or shinier bracelet. I love the Fitbit, and I hardly recommend it to anyone.

Overall a decent design
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The new Alta is an improvement over previous styles. I like the slim and sleek design. It seems sometimes you have to tap is fairly hard to bring up the display, but so far I like everything else. Time will tell. My previous Fitbit was a Charge HR and it literally fell apart days before this one arrived.

Good features but not waterproof
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had to initially return this because the first charger was broken out of the box, but the second one was fine. I like the ability to change bands easily, and the ability to customize the display is convenient. The biggest limitation is that it's not waterproof, so I can't wear it swimming. It will show incoming calls and texts, which is handy. Much more comfortable than the Microsoft Band, but with only about half the features. It occupies a good middle ground between a bare bones tracker and a full-fledged smartwatch.

Good, but not for everyone
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had the Alta for a month now, and the overall experience has been good. My wife had been using her (different brand) tracker for a year and a half and liked it, so I thought I would try one also. I browsed some reviews and top 10 lists and decided on the Alta. I purchased the Alta the night before we left for a vacation. The initial setup was harder than expected, but after letting it charge for overnight and resetting it (thanks to online forums!) I was able to complete the task the next morning before we left. Day 2 I was already disappointed because I hadn't thought to verify that the Alta was waterproof ... thus, I had to take it off every morning when we went swimming. And I have since learned that it doesn't track exercise on a stationary bike or elliptical (my phone will do both if it is in my pocket). I wasn't surprised, but hey, a guy can hope. And maybe if I put the Alta in my pocket it will do the same ... The device is pretty comfortable to wear. I do occasionally catch it on stuff, but I assume that will reduce with time as I become more used to having it on. I've had no problems with the clasp, either fastening or having it come off unexpectedly. Step counting seems to be pretty accurate, and the reminders to get up an move every hour are pretty good since I sit at a desk all day. The sleep tracking is not perfect, but it is interesting and I expect it to help me zero in on the right amount of sleep for me in a more quantitative method. I'm still experimenting with other features on the unit and in the app. In in the end, this seems to be a good tracker, and most of my disappointment with it are due to my ignorance of which features I really wanted, so I'll use it for a while before deciding whether to get something different.

Screen Disappoints
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really excited to purchase my first FitBit and I was very happy with it at first. However, after about a day and a half of wearing it, I noticed a pretty significant scratch on the surface of the screen. Are you kidding me?! I can't even recall brushing it up against anything! After I noticed the scratch, I did some research online and found that many other customers complained of the same issues with their other FitBit. I am super disappointed and would warn others of this issue before making their purchase. If the screen scratches that easily, it should come with a protector.

Sleek & Super Comfy..
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was drawn to the Alta because of it's sleek look. I love the interchangeable bands and it doesn't look or feel like a bulky watch. It's functional and comfortable. I was worried about how I would feel when I slept with it on but so far so good. The online setup and sync was super easy and it stays charged for days. My only con is that I wish it had the heart rate monitor. I Love Love Love the ALTA...

great step tracker
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this is a great tool for tracking steps, food, water and activities. The only thing that isn't perfect is sometimes when I double tap to view time it doesn't come up the first time or when I turn my wrist to view time, it doesn't come up. other than that it is a great product

Got me off my tush
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: --Helps track steps, active minutes, and estimated calories burned. --Compatible with every fitness app I've used or tried. --keeps a charge for a long time --mine is black, and black goes with everything. --includes a clock with date and day display, which can either be vertical or horizontal based on your preferences --Normally I'm quite lazy, but it chews me out if I sit too long and cheers me on when I meet my goals. Cons: --When you turn your arm up to look at the watch, it doesn't always light up, so you have to tap it. Not always convenient when in meetings and you're trying to be discreet while checking the time. --Weirdly, when I'm sleeping the time display lights up every time I twitch. As a light sleeper, who lives in the country where it's very dark, this causes me to wake up. --It is supposed to track your sleep, if you wear it to bed, but since it wakes me up all the time, I can't trust results. --Understandably, it isn't 100% reliable when tracking steps. Some times it doesn't track all my steps, and sometimes I get 200 steps while in my recliner while watching TV. (I, of course, pretend I really was working that hard. --I have an in-between sized wrist. The small was too snug. The large is *almost* too loose.

Overpriced but good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my third Fitbit. I had the Charge and Blaze but eventually settle on the Alta as it is less bulky. Good design and I've always been a fan of Fitbits challenges and community with fellow Fitbit friends. Competing for steps is a great motivational tool. Battery is very good. It could last up to a week on a full charge granted you're not checking and syncing every few minutes. Now the bad. Fitbit feels a bit cheap. For the price tag of $130, there really isn't that many features. It's a little gadget that probably costs a couple bucks to make. Alta has no HR (at least not this version) monitoring and basically only tracks steps, stairs, calories and distance although i find those to be a bit inaccurate in measurement. Also it is water resistance but not water proof. Quite annoying to take off everytime i need to take a shower. Still a great device to compete and stylish but overpriced in my opinion.

I love my Fitbit Alta!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read lots of reviews before I made this purchase. Most of them were very positive but of course not all of them. And one of them turned out to be true: the heart rate problem does exist. But luckily I didn't buy it to use as a way to track steps and sleep. And for those purposes it works great. I'm very happy with my purchase

More than a basic counter, less than a smart watch
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a good fitness tracker if you want something to do basic step and sleep tracking. The main reason I got the Alta was for sleep tracking since I couldn't wear my Apple watch while it charged at night. The Alta battery lasts for about 5 days. It does try to automatically log some activities, but doesn't always guess the right activity. The Alta is bulkier than the Jawbone Up 2 or 3, but adds in a small OLED screen that can show the time, current step count, text messages, etc. If it weren't for the poor durability I experienced with the Up 2, I would not have tried the Alta. The other advantage of FitBit's among all other fitness trackers is the wider user base. This makes it more likely that you will have friends to get into step competitions with. It may sound silly, but it's a great motivator to get up and take a short walk each day to beat your friend's step count. The main downside with FitBit is that its app doesn't sync with Apple Health, which allows synchronization of health data across many apps. FitBit also does integrate well with many other apps which have better running and activity tracking classification.

Great Tool
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm glad I purchased the fit bit Alta. Knowing my step count has encouraged me to strive to reach higher goals. It also has shown me how low quality sleep I was actually getting. I like the smaller size and sleek look. The only downside is the way the band fastens. It is extremely difficult for my hands.

Fitbit gets the band right...FINALLY!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like its sleek design, and the UI through the app is the best. The app is why I keep coming back to Fitbit. The band is great because it is changeable. I found that other bands with the bigger faces, especially with a heart monitor. gave me a rash, or fell apart too quickly and I would have to get rid of the device. Since I can wear it loose, and the band is replaceable, this will not be a problem. Fitbit finally got the band issue right!

Stylish and Functional
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Fitbit Alta has been great so far... I have it for a month and have loved the many features it has, especially the signals it gives you when you reach your step goal (fireworks) and nudges you if you haven't gone 250 steps in an hour. I love that it has different band styles. The only drawback is that it doesn't monitor your heart rate like the other models do. The App is excellent and it is great to compete in challenges with your friends. Great purchase!

Makes Fitness Tracking Easy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.So...tracks how many steps I take (and reminds me to get up and move hourly); tracks my calorie and liquid consumption (with help: I actually have to input my intake); tracks how long I sleep, and to a degree monitors my sleep quality; knows when I'm "active," and keeps track of how many minutes I'm active. Not bad! IF you're motivated to start moving in the direction of fitness, the Alta is a useful tool; simple to use, and fairly unobtrusive. It requires a little effort -- like said, entering your liquid and caloric consumption, but really: if you're not willing to do that, you probably aren't going to be willing to get active in the first place. Only complaint I have is that sometimes it forgets to sync -- I assume a connectivity issue. Minor problem, though, and I would TOTALLY get one again.
