Why all the hatred about this update?

    |
    Posted .

I just bought the Alta HR as an upgrade from my Alta and I like it. Yeah it's slightly, and I mean slightly, larger but geez they fit a HR sensor in there. I am not having any issues with screen tap sensitivity that some are complaining about. My steps are spot on with a known route that I take so I can't sympathize with others having issues. Honestly I'm happy with the purchase and if I come across something that I think you all should know about before buying I will update this review but it works well and battery lasts about as long as my original Alta.

    Perfect Gift

I purchased this item as a gift for my mother. I’ve had a Fitbit Alta for nearly a year and thought she would like it too. She loves and appreciates it. I love her Fitbit Alta HR as well and will likely upgrade soon. The key differences in the two Alta models are that the newer model (HR) measures heart rate and has capacity to give more details about sleep patterns. My mother who just turned 74 is encouraged to walk more to meet daily goals and really likes that there are apps that sync her Fitbit to her ®weight watchers membership program. Finally we both love the rose gold color.

    Great Starter Fitbit

I bought the Alta HR for wife. She likes watches that are slim and have a relatively small face. However, with all that this Alta HR does it's perfect for her. She has teamed up with her friend to start exercising, and eating better to lose weight. She can now track her eating and walking. She loves the fact that she can track not only how many steps she is taking but also where they are walking to keep pushing their walking distance. This has been the best watch I have bought for her.

FitBit Alta HR is a far better option for ladies!

I love my Fitbit Alta HR! It fits much more comfortably on my wrist than the Fitbit HR and does practically everything the HR did! I love wearing big chunky bracelets, and the Alta doesn't interfere with them. Also,I've found a couple features that weren't available in my FB HR. I find the hourly activity reminders to be hugely beneficial and I love how the Alta HR receives displays text messages as well as incoming calls! I would have rated this product a 5 except for the challenges with the display in bright sunlight....everything else is a 5!

I bought one for my daughter for being promoted to the 2nd Grade. She was so excited when she received it. The color was vibrant and the band can adjust to any size. She always competes with her brother so she's getting her steps in!!!

Bought this for a relative that isn’t too tech savvy but needed to monitor her heartbeat. I had purchased one for Christmas for my wife and went on her recommendation. Most of the features work well, exercise reminder, heartbeat monitor, watch, connection to smartphone. The one area that they have noticed that doesn’t work so well is the step counter. Apparently since you wear it on your wrist, it monitors your wrist movements more than your actual steps. We tested this when my sister in law was sitting at a table when the buzzer went off reminding her she needed 250 steps to achieve her goal. Still seated, she achieved her “steps” by shaking her arm for a couple minutes. My wife noticed the same thing when we went on an extensive shopping trip, but since it was cold she had her hands in her coat pockets. It barely registered any of her steps even though my Fitbit One showed we had walked thousands of steps. Another relative mentioned the same happened to her as she went up and down steps holding the rail. It didn’t register most of her flights of steps. All of those that have these Fitbits say they are happy with them as they like the secondary features. And are conscientious to move their arms as they walk so their steps are counted. So I guess depending on your priorities and how much you like the cool features versus what I consider the core function, you may like this particular Fitbit model. I guess I could recommend it with some caveats.

Stylish, good all around fitness tracker.

I was in the market for a fitness tracker for a while. The Apple Watch series 2 was a no brainer for me. It had everything; GPS, heart rate, and it was swim proof! It was also much more expensive, and the battery life was max two days of regular use. After seeing many of my friends go for Fitbits, and getting personal insights, I am very happy with my purchase of my Fitbit Alta HR. Some prerequisites for the fitness tracker I was looking for was that it had to look decent since I would be wearing it all the time, and replaceable bands help with that a LOT. I also really wanted one that lasted a while without having to charge it, since the data it collects is only useful if you're actually WEARING it! I also really wanted it to be swim/water proof so that I didn't feel limited while wearing it. The Fitbit Alta HR, the Garmin Vivosmart 3, the Apple Watch series 2, and the Garmin Vivosmart HR+ were all great choices. The Garmin Vivosmart 3 was newer and better looking than the Vivosmart HR+, but lacked GPS. Both were much more waterproof than the Fitbit, but suffered highly in the style department. I like having technology that looks good. PLEASE consider the Garmins if you value substance over style. The Apple Watch series 2 was too expensive for me at the moment, and also I just don't like the design. Call me a hater but without the $500 metal link bracelet accessory from Apple, I just don't like the Apple Watch. The Fitbit Alta HR had the best battery life of them all, and although it wasn't water or swim proof, the kind words my friends with Fitbits had about it got me to feel better about it. Plus it was on sale at Best Buy for 129.99. so it was much more affordable than some of the others. The stainless steel accessory band also makes the Alta HR look like the coolest fitness tracker there is.

    Comfortable and convinent device

I have really been enjoying my new Fitbit Alta HR. It's the first wearable technology that I've had, so I don't have much to compare it to. However, here is what I've noticed so far: Pros: • It tracks my sleep very well. It appears to be incredibly accurate and I like to look at my sleep pattern and hours of sleep as soon as I wake up in the morning. • The heart rate monitor also appears to be very accurate. I really like this feature so I can monitor my activity and try to keep myself at the heart rate I want depending on my goal for the exercise. • The band is very comfortable - I usually don't even notice that I'm wearing it. • Stays charged for about 4-5 days. Charging takes a couple of hours. Cons: • It is not always accurate in tracking my exercise. When I mow, it thinks I'm riding a bike. Sometimes it will count steps when I'm riding in a car. • I wish it would give me reminders for inputting my weight every couple of days so I can track it better. Since I don't have the Fitbit scale, it doesn't update it automatically. It also has the option for tracking what I eat and how much water I drink (but of course everything has to be entered manually). I would say it is comparable to other apps for tracking eating and drinking, with a very thorough bank of foods to search from. Plus it gives the breakdown of carbs, fat and protein, along with the total amount of calories. All in all I am very pleased with my Fitbit. It was given to me as a gift by someone very special, so that makes it even better as it reminds me of him every time I look at it! :)

I absolutely love my Alta Hr, I have a hard time trying to find a smart tracker to fit my tiny wrist and its perfect and very comfortable and tracks everything that I want. The battery life last forever, i'm going on 5 days now and i'm at half the battery life . I had the charge 2 for a week and it hurt my wrist and was uncomfortable to me, everyone is different the choose is yours. I'm in love with my Alta Hr.

This is a great fitness tracker!

Before reviewing this product, I did tons of research on youtube, and talked to friends about the fitbit alta, and the hr. I was originally thinking of buying the fitbit alta because of the cheaper price. On, the fitbit alta hr it has a heart rate monitor which is not on the original alta. That is 20 dollars more. At, first I thought it was pretty useless, but the salesman at the store was very helpful. In, my opinion, the fitbit alta hr is the way to go. Features: steps, heart rate, miles traveled, calories burned and sleep. Set up: Very easy on my computer Clip charger: I was going on vacation and felt that putting the charge into my laptop was really inconvenient. So, I took my apple usb charger and put the fitbit alta hr usb charger end into there. Then, plugged it in. The results were impressive. Battery life/ charging: Battery lasts 4-5 days. Charge 3,4,5 hours. (*I highly recommend going to the store. At best buy, the customer service was helpful. ) Finally, you may ask, why get this if the fitbit alta is the same except for the heart rate monitor? WELL! The fit bit alta has a weird 2 clips band that is not stable. It could end up falling off! The hr has a traditional watch clasp which is way more sucre. Also, knowing your heart beat is pretty darn cool. ___________________________________________________________ WORKOUTS: For an average workout, I think this was very helpful. It's light and not bulky like the charge 2. It's simple, and not complex. The only down side is this is not waterproof. So, don't take this swimming, or showering! I hope this review helped you form an opinion, but both the alta and the hr are great devices. Also, If this helpful you, check the box below! Thanks for your time!

I was a bit apprehensive about buying this product as I saw comments that it was hard to tap and switch between the different on screen options but overall I have had no issues tapping. I think the key is to tap under the screen and not on the screen ( I maybe wrong but it works for me). Happy with this purchase.

These kind of wrist bands/watches/ activity trackers make for great gift for almost anybody. I was a little hesitant at first to go with Fitbit since it was the most expensive brand among similar products, but after reading the other brands' reviews and the issues they have I decided to go with this and pay extra. When I first bought it thou, I didn't realize that it came in two sizes so I had to go back to the store to exchange it. The only complaint is that it only comes in two sizes large and small and sometimes the desired length falls in between those two. So Fitbit should either offer another size medium, or make the two existing sizes cover a broader length spectrum.
