This movie was wonderful. I am not into cars but i was totally wrapped up in this. The picture quality is amazing and the sound will blow your mind.

Fantastic movie. I also loved getting it from Best Buy. It’s sad they are going to stop selling 4k movies.

This is probably the most excited I’ve been to watch a 2019 movie since Endgame. As a car guy, I was very eager to see Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles on the big screen, portraying the relationship of two friends putting their passions and knowledges together to design a performance car for Ford to rival Ferrari at Le Mans 66. Without spoiling it for those who don’t know the story, this film does very well developing its characters, and making the audience feel for the characters during tough times, as if they were themselves. There was not a scene in the movie that I felt was flat or bland, or like it was missing something. The bond between Ken Miles and his son is such a beautiful thing as well. It’s such a remarkable story to tell, and the film does a very respectable job portraying the events and battles of this journey. Matt Damon’s and Christian Bale’s performances were nothing short of stellar, as to be expected. If you like cars, and true-story movies, this one is a no-brainer. Overall, I was very impressed. As for technicalities in quality, I can say the image on the Ultra-HD disc was very sharp and punchy, but there was no wow-factor, or anything that was in-your-face impressive. But the clarity and detail was certainly not lacking. Given the type of movie it is, it doesn’t have explosions or vivid colors to showcase the capabilities of HDR. Dark scenes show plenty of shadow detail, while still maintaining smooth gradation and deep contrast. A great example is the scene where Miles and his son are sitting outside in front of a sunset, telling him about “the perfect lap.” That scene really shines in HDR. This film is, however, a 2K digital intermediate, upscaled to 4K for the disc, which most likely explains why the sharpness wasn’t quite as intense as some native 4K presentations, but still impressive nonetheless. The source material has plenty of detail stored, as the movie was predominantly shot in 4.5K resolution. Sound quality was crisp and bassy, but I can’t say there was a huge benefit of having Dolby Atmos, over the regular 5.1 or 7.1. Racing scenes had some pretty cool surround effects, but there weren’t really any overhead effects, since there simple weren’t any overhead scenes in the movie to give those types of sounds. Overall, it’s a fantastic movie, but the 4K disc was not given its full potential, simply because of the 2K intermediate. I would still buy it in Ultra-HD for the other benefits of the format, however (10 bit color, wider color gamut, higher bitrate, and Dolby Atmos (for the small amount of effects that the movie does have).

This is a well-made film that has an inspiring story. It has some funny moments that I really enjoyed as well.

This was a well written story, and was a great price for 4K and Blu-ray together.

Great acting, great, story. Not totally necessary to have it in UHD but it was on sale so why not?

Ford v Ferrari is presented in 4K UHD courtesy of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment with a 2160p transfer in 2.39:1. As mentioned in our Ford v Ferrari Blu-ray review, this was captured with Alexa cameras and reportedly finished at a 2K DI (according to the IMDb), though, as I also mentioned in the review of the 1080p Blu-ray version, detail levels often struck me as being at "real" 4K levels even in that presentation, and that is certainly the case here as well. The uptick in general clarity and overall detail levels is apparent from the very first POV shot in the movie, a shot of a speeding raceway covered in mist seen from Carroll's perspective. But fine detail levels are often noticeably improved throughout this presentation, and the increased saturation of the palette with some really appealing highlights courtesy of HDR is also quite noticeable. I was actually kind of awestruck by some of the reds in the presentation, including Carroll's "private" car early in the film and, later, one of the racecars at Le Mans. There's a kind of interesting peach hue to some scenes now that wasn't quite as prevalent in the 1080p presentation, including the Ford plant sequence where Henry Ford II makes his peculiar speech to the assembled masses, and even some of the later outdoor material. One thing that really struck me as noticeably different about this presentation was the much more evident digital grain that has been added. It frankly barely rose to a level of general notice when I watched the 1080p version, but here it's unmistakable, clearly visible in many of the outdoor scenes especially, notably when bright skies are in the frame, as in the sequence that introduces Carroll and Ken "together" for the first time, or even in the charming nighttime - sunset sequence with Ken and his son. This particular aspect didn't always strike me as looking completely organic, but it also didn't rise to the level of a major distraction for me personally.

Great acting, and a good story about one of the racing pioneers. If you are a race fan, I highly recommend.
