The best Android Wear SmartWatch there is.

    Posted .

This is quite a step or maybe leap forward for Fossil. My old watch which I still have is a QR Explorist and there’s nothing wrong with and it still works well, but the new Carlyle HR builds upon it. In my 10 days or so with the watch, I can say it improves on every aspect of the Explorist. The biggest thing I want to touch on for this review is battery life. This was something the Explorist did just okay with. Always on was a feature on that watch, but if enabled, battery life was largely reduced. You might see say, 4-6 hours of life which isn’t near enough for a work day or let alone one and a workout after or before. Without that Always On feature you could expect about 8-10 hours which is just good enough. That said, the Carlyle HR surpasses this by a light year. I’ve not tested it with the Always On mode off, but if you have it off, I would guess you can get a solid day 12-18 hours maybe even more in between charges. With Always On mode enabled, I’m seeing coming off an overnight charge around 12 hours with around 60-70% battery remaining. That’s quite astonishing and puts it right up there with another non-Android based competitor. Now performance wise, again, this surpasses my old watch. Everything is so smooth and there’s little to no lag at all. With my old one it would get laggy switching from screen to screen. That’s not an issue here at all. Everything is snappy and fluid. I’ve not tested the calls on it, this can reduce battery life according to the prompt so I’ve kept it off. Google Assistant does work well on it and the volume is adequate. The Display is much improved. It’s brighter and I’m not entirely certain of the resolution compared to the Explorist, but everything is definitely sharper and cleaner looking. There’s plenty of information that can fit on the screen at any given time which is incredibly helpful, especially compared to the limited space on the Explorist. The watch faces are neat and some are very informative with little bits of info such as heart rate and daily activity. One of the nicest things I appreciate about the Always On mode is that it works with your chosen watch face. As soon as you tap it, everything reappears with the hour marks and clock hands. It’s really one of those little things that makes a big impact in usability. Ironically given that this watch is 1mm smaller, 44mm versus the 45mm Explorist, it’s a lot lighter and seems larger. The watch band is about a link smaller than my previous one but it’s not tight, it’s almost a perfect fit. The watch body itself is much sleeker, less sporty and classier which I’m really liking. I think Fossil really nailed it with the design. If you’re in the market for a new Android Wear based Smart Watch, this is arguably the best one you can buy right now. You’re getting a lot for the price and really, you’re going to be hard pressed to find something better right now for everyday use that doesn’t look or feel cheap. These remind me of the old Moto 360 watches but more refined and with modern features. Just go get one, you won’t regret it.

The smart watch for stock android lovers

I was considering the new Galaxy line of 2020 but having had one before I really do not like the way Samsung supports its products long term. I decided to give this Fossil a try at a reduced price versus Samsung. Boy am I happy I did. If you are someone who wants a smart watch to look good on your wrist, not be massive in size, and give you all of the functions you need, this is for you. You will especially love it if you are a Google Pixel user since the software syncs with stock Android the best. The health features are sufficient and batterly life is typically around two days when I am using a custom mode. I can easily recommend this watch to anyone who enjoy stock Android and does not like Samsung software all that much.

So I initially got this watch back in May but I broke it and did an exchange which is why it now has a date of 8/15/20. In the 6 months that I've had it I can say that this is a pretty amazing watch, I don't have any complaints just some suggestions. The battery is enough to get me through two days of wearing it, roughly 16 hours total before it gets down to 5%. In the next version putting a slightly bigger battery and giving the watch the ability to wirelessly charge like the Apple watch instead of using charging rings as well as fix the issues I've had with turning on the Google Assistant for "ok Google" detection.

It is a great device. I bought this for an awesome price deal. Pros: you can sync it with your phone. You will get all type of notifications on it. Also YOU CAN answer phone calls from it, yes! Weather, steps, heart rate, step counting, control your music. Even answer your texts back from it. You can change the clock faces with several models from Fossil. It actually looks like a really cool watch. If you like watches this is a really good option for you. Cons: maybe to "fancy" if you wanna go and run with it or just do some excersie. It's more like a casual smartwatch. The battery doesn't last that long BUT it charges really fast! So you're good to go.

Still waiting for Google to decide if they are actually gonna get serious with wear os. Definitely wouldn't get ANY wear os watch with less than 1GB memory. I had an older Tic Watch Pro with 500mb and that was a very unpleasant experience. This fossil is much smoother. My only gripe is getting the watchband property fit. I got a kit on Amazon to fit it myself. I see a few people seeing their backs fall off after months of use, I got the replacement geek squad plan for peace of mind vs this.

    What a great tool!

    Posted .

I have been using another brand of smartwatch and was happy with it. I received the Fossil Smartwatch and have been very happy with it. It took a little while to get used to some of the features, but I really like the slightly larger face and the way the notifications come up. I was a little disappointed with the number of faces available, but have started to settle on one or two that seem to do what I like. The watch feels very good on my wrist, with just the right amount of mass. I had a bit of a time getting the band resized, the pins took much more force than other bands I have worked with and the arrows pointing in both directions didn't help direct my efforts! I did finally get it done after grinding a punch down to the right size. In the end, I have it adjusted and it feels very comfortable. I am still getting used to the buttons and features, but I am very happy with the watch and it stays connected all the time, unlike my old watch. It seems like everything about the watch is customizable, with so many ways to configure everything. Just when I think I have it set the way I want, I find another little tweak I can make that makes it even better! I have heard of the Fossil brand for some time, but never thought I would have one myself. I was afraid they might be over-rated like so many things are these days, but I am very happy with the quality and detail of this watch. I would have no problem recommending this watch to anyone who wants a really nice tool that pairs with a phone really well. I find it allows me to keep my phone stashed much more often than I used to with its easy to read display and other features.

The fossil gen5 watch is a beautiful piece of technology. Having said that, here are the pros and cons of this device according to me: Pros: Sleek & beautiful design Wear OS has a range of advantages even when compared to its competitors Smooth operation Cons: Slightly overpriced as compared to its counterparts I had this watch on a discount, otherwise, for the regular price of this watch, I would rather go for other smartwatches.

My Gen 5 Smartwatch has been exactly what I was looking for. I don't use this for Health purposes. I use this as a notification extension for my cellphone. Everything is on vibrate and the watch silently lets me know about my messages. it's great. I like the style and it is somewhat easy to change out the straps. Google Assistant is really helpful for timers and reminders. Though, at the beginning, the battery was not all that great. (It would only last a day). After a few updates, the battery usage has almost extended twice as long. I don't even think about it. My only wish is for the fonts to be even bigger. I'm not young and need to use reading glasses. However, when I am active, I am not using readers. If the font was bigger, perhaps something extreme thru accessibility, that would be AWESOME! Regardless, I truly appreciate this watch.

    Best wear OS watch

This is the wear OS watch to get for 2019/2020. Features latest Snapdragon 3100 CPU which means better battery life & performance. This is Fossil's 5th Generation of this watch so they have had a lot of time to perfect this watch. Want Android pay? Heart rate sensor? GPS for runs? This watch checks it all off. As a bonus you can even place and receive calls on the watch thanks to built in speaker which is also great for Google assistant with great audio quality to boot. This watch also has a crazy huge library of killer watch faces built in that can be customized and Fossil did a great job in this area. I also really like the option to use the. Rown to scroll through apps and features. I honestly prefer Samsung's rotating crown however their Bixby assistant is useless and needs to be fired so this is the 2ns best way to navigate your watch apps. How about cons?? Well for a proprietary charger this is the best I have used. Magnatised and no pins to line up just place watch on it and that's it but why no qi wireless charging Fossil? 2nd con is I had watch for a day and next day during work watch screen turned off and watch never came on again. Went back to best buy and got a replacement and has been working flawlessly so will chalk this up as a fluke but still was disappointing and somewhat alarming for a new watch but I have gotten over this. Bottem line if you want the best Wear OS watch at a affordable price this is it. Wear OS has greatly matured and has great app selection and build quality is great. Go get one you will be happy you did.

Good watch with all the bells and whistles of a smart watch. Battery drains quickly during the day of usage and barely lasts a day, even with minimal use in the daily battery mode. Charges quickly within an hour or so after plugging in. The dial is not very bright when you go from a dark place into sunlight. Outlook calendar and mail notifications are good. Overall happy with the watch.
