My wife spent the whole movie reminding me that she is "distantly related" to the real main character... good movie... could have been better without the peripheral chatter though ... <3 my wife!!

A good movie, if you want a different perspective of the civil war. I never knew it was called the war of the rich people. I'm not usually a Matthew McConaughey fan, but he actually does a good job acting with this movie.

I thought the great acting, back & forth time periods, and knowing that it's based on factual history help make it a very good movie! The graphic nature & subject matter were very realistic, too!

One of many great untold American story's good acting good cast and historical much needed film for these divided times as it shows that the American Spirit has always kept Americans together.

This was a movie I didn't know much about when it was at the theater. So I was not sure what to expect. It turned out it be one of the best movies I have watched in awhile. Highly recommended

I read about this story in school. I found it interesting, but to see it on film gave me a new apprecation of the struggle and sacrifice. The cast seemed as though they were the real people. Loved it start to finish.

This was an okey movie, was based on a real person in the civil war, I am not sure if it followed the true story or not, it was not in my American history books. Okey movie I would recommend.

This film was about a 6/10 for me which lines up with most critics. However, it looks beautiful on Blu-ray so if you are on the fence about which version to get I would definitely go Blu-ray.

Although this film is probably based on fact, a previous reading of a magazine article showed many people in Mississippi refused to accept that. Fact or not, it is a great movie and well worth the time and money.

I was not sure what to expect with this movie. However, I was not disappointed from start to finish. Another great McConaughey movie that will surely be a classic in time. Definitely a movie to watch more than once.

This is a great movie using Hollywood fiction to bring he viewer into a little known fact about the Civil War, viz., Southern resistance against Southern resistance. It should inspire viewers to seek out the truth.

This movie is very well made. It is graphic and gory at times. It is a piece of history and subject matter portrayed with unashamed bluntness. It is well worth seeing for, in my opinion, high school age and older.

Great movie. Matthew McConaughey is excellent, as always. I highly recommend this movie, as it is very well done and a reminder of how far we still have to go in order to truly treat everyone equally.

Excellent movie delivered by a strong cast set against the backdrop of the Civil War. Story based on rarely known event in the deep south during those turbulent years. Action packed and engrossing watch!

We found the movie was excellent. It is a movie dealing with a deep and historical subject matter. Although a fairly long movie it kept the viewer engaged as well as surprised by certain outcomes.

Was very in testing to see the struggles the main character want thru but was sad that to this day the descendants of both sides of the family still are at odds.

It's a good story, not really captivating as a movie as it seems to trail off into time lapses and quite boring scenes. The first half of the movie was much stronger

being a black man 68years olds i can relat to this film it was real but i didn,t like the flast backs but other than that it was great iwas born and raise in the south

This movie was painful to watch, but it's an important story I think everyone should know. There can be no doubt what motivated the south's involvement in the civil war after seeing this.

If you enjoy films based on actual events and Civil War pieces in particular, this is a movie in that genre from a different angle. Well done and worth watching.
