Customers consistently note the 3–in-1 Portable Room Air Conditioner's excellent cooling performance and ease of installation. Many appreciate its user-friendly features, including the remote control, while some find the unit heavy and the exhaust hose prone to issues. Noise level is another area where opinions diverge, with some users finding it acceptable and others noting it can be quite loud. Overall, the air conditioner receives positive feedback for its cooling capabilities but also draws criticism for certain aspects of its design and functionality.

I bought this online through the site and saw an open box option in excellent condition. Shipping was next day and the price was $100 off their sale price. When I received the item, there was damage to the unit contrary to the labels on the box. The replacement parts are $40 with shipping and are currently out of stock with no ETA for when they'll arrive. Wouldn't have bought this knowing it was damaged like this. This thing is 70lbs so getting to return it would be some effort. Item is decent but don't buy open box unless you can see condition prior to purchase.

I have a brick bungalow and what use to be an attic is now two bedroom and a bathroom, I got tired of use ing a regular air conditioner because of the water dripping and smell and I could never get it to blew on the correct angle! Since I’ve had this I’ve had no water dripping issues because there is none! No bad smell and the whole upstairs is cold! The best part is I can say “hey google turn on/off my upstairs A/C”

It has been running for about 2 months and works fine. The remote however doesn't work. I called customer service and they had me try a reboot, (remove batts and reinstall). That worked for about a minute. I haven't had time to call and be on hold or navigate the computer voice. So that sucks.

INITIAL IMPRESSIONS & SET-UP
The Frigidaire 3-In-1 Air Conditioner commands a big footprint, but also cools a big space. The Frigidaire is bigger than an average-sized garage wet/dry vac with a heft to go along with it. The unit weighs in at a portly 70 pounds. Eat your Wheaties. Carrying it in from the UPS delivery was the worst chore. After the surprise of the weight and a few grunts and groans I managed to get it through the front door. Thankfully, Frigidaire made the shipping box in 2 pieces, only having to lift the cardboard over the unit. Nice! Also, the air conditioner is equipped with 4 swivel casters to maneuver it around after unpacking. Thanks Frigidaire.
Spec-wise the air conditioner is rated to cool rooms up to 550 sq ft. This is a room slightly larger than 20’ x 25’. It is rated at 12,000BTU’s and has a nifty dehumidifier function built-in, should you not need the air conditioner. Very handy for basements and damp areas (Air Conditioners are natural dehumidifiers in their operation), but its nice to be able to run the dehumidifier function without the need to run the A/C side, as well. The Frigidaire has an easy to clean air filter hidden behind a snap-closed cover on the back of the unit, as well as a built-in ionizer to help clean the air and keep it from smelling musty.
Controls for the air conditioner are easily readable and accessible on the top of the unit. Frigidaire includes a very nice backlit remote control to adjust the nearly any function of the machine. The remote had a good range, extending better than 20’. This unit also includes built-in Wi-Fi. While I initially rolled my eyes, immediately deeming it as a marketing gimmick, I actually found the app awesome. The app features two-way communication with the unit and shows you real-time status of the machine, as well as current room temperature and temperature set point. I anticipated being a fan of the remote, but have been using the app more than the remote. It was easy to install, easy to set the unit up, and works well.
USE
Temperatures have been sweltering lately. We have had nearly a month with temps over 100 degrees. Combine the temps with some humidity and it makes being outside nearly unbearable. I decided to give the air conditioner a worst-case scenario to test and use it. I’ve been putting off numerous garage projects because of the stifling heat. So, I thought what better place to test out the air conditioner than in my 1-car, uninsulated garage. I was not expecting great performance. Quite frankly, this little machine was facing an uphill battle to say the least. Testing conditions were as follows:
Outside Temp: 102
Garage Temp: 89
Relative Humidity: 39%
I vented the air conditioner to the outside, set the fan speed to Hi, temperature to 78, and activated the swing function to help disperse the air being blown out. The swing function slowly raises and lowers the exhaust louvers to help spread the cold air through a room.
I was correct, the Frigidaire proved no match for the extreme heat and humidity. After 20 minutes of use to normalize operations, I measured an air temperature exiting the unit at 62 degrees. Not bad, especially considering how hot it was. After a full hour of use, the poor Frigidaire had only managed to drop the temperature by 3 degrees. But, what that doesn’t tell you, is that even though it only dropped temps by 3 degrees, it had lowered the humidity in the garage quite a bit. Coming from inside an air-conditioned house to the garage was not nearly as shocking as being hit by the blast furnace that it was an hour before. So, while the temperature had not decreased much, the working environment was better and more tolerable.
NEGATIVES
Like all portable air conditioners, this machine needs a way to exhaust hot air and drain as it pulls moisture from the air. While Frigidaire does include nearly everything needed to get this accomplished, the parts are cheap. For example, both the exhaust hose and the window adapter for the exhaust hose are uninsulated. Not only does the exhaust hose get quite warm during use, the window adapter for the exhaust hose gets even hotter. Especially if the sun is beating down on it in the 100+ degree heat we’ve been having. Most windows nowadays are double-pane and this provides for a decent amount of insulating value. However, having to raise the window 6” to place an uninsulated exhaust adapter kind of defeats some of the purpose. Speaking of the window adapter, while it is adjustable, it doesn’t seal up against itself and makes for plenty of cracks to let hot air back into the room. This is especially noticeable if the wind is blowing in just the right direction.
CONCLUSIONS
The Frigidaire 3-In-1 Portable Air Conditioner is a good product. While I stress tested it on day 1 in the worst possible conditions, I was still pleased with its results. Yes, it took a while to make a difference in the garage, but I knew it would. I worked as well as I could have asked under the conditions.
Using the unit in a normal space with decent insulation and it performs nearly flawlessly. Even on its highest settings it isn’t that loud or obnoxious. Set it on Auto and let it work its magic and you won’t hardly know its there. On low, it isn’t much worse than a refrigerator or dish washer running in the background. It has proven more than capable of adequately cooling any interior room I’ve put it in so far.
While Frigidaire gives you enough parts in the box to get the unit up and running, I recommend planning ahead and getting some extra supplies. Finding a way to help seal up the window exhaust would help a lot (to be fair, Frigidaire does include some sealing foam with the unit, I just didn’t have enough to do what I needed). Still, I think this is a good product and would have no problems recommending it.

Can't review what I can't get delivered. Look at this horror story of delivery promises. For three days it said out for delivery while they knew they were not going to deliver it. I finally had to call with no answer so I opened a chat and was told you need to just order another one. Well now the open box deals are gone and you need to wait another week to get a full priced one delivered. Meanwhile my elderly mother in law is in 88 degrees in her room. To me this is just short of a medical emergency and not some video game we can wait for. I had to run to Home depot and buy one in stock. So UPS investigates and decides to send it back to Best Buy after they damaged it. I paid for it, at least let me see the damage so I can make a decision. Now I feel screwed out of a rare $400 discount and of course Best Buy will not only get the unit back but be compensated by UPS for the damage.

Design and Features
The overall look is very clean and minimal. While still noticeable as a large appliance in a room, it wouldn’t be an eyesore. The main part that would be noticeable would be the large plastic hose you have to route to a window. It can be easily moved around on the wheels included on the bottom. It does have handles to lift but at around 70 pounds it isn’t an easy task. The exhaust hose installs via a twist lock on the back of the unit, but the window side attaches via two tabs. The window adapter slides to fit the size of the opening and may require some trimming to fit. Included is foam tape to help seal the opening.
Setup and Performance
Setup was mostly straightforward but could be improved with larger graphics in the book to show the correct orientation of the window adapter. Thankfully, Frigidaire has a YouTube video that helps explain things better. With the help of the video installation was easy. The window adapter had to have parts trimmed to the size of the opening which limits further “portable” use of the unit unless your other locations are of a similar size. The instructions also state that you should screw the adapter kit to your window, although it stayed stable without it. The power cord is short limiting placement. You also need to keep it a minimum distance from walls and other furniture which further limits placement. During setup, only one window in the room would work requiring rearrangement. Another issue with setup is that while the twist lock connecting the hose to the main body holds secure, the tabs holding it to the window adapter are not very effective. Any movement of the hose or the AC unit would cause the hose to pop out of the window adapter. Another thing to keep in mind is that while the exhaust hose has a grating to keep out animals, it doesn’t deter bugs such as flies, mosquitos, and wasps. It’s unlikely they would enter the unit while running, but if you intend to leave it off for a little while you are better off disconnecting it and removing the window adapter.
Trying to get the air conditioner setup and available via the app was finicky. During initial registration things went smoothly, but then trying to log into via the app would give a cloud error saying the username was invalid. The only way around the issue was to use a different email address. After working past this issue was setting up Wi-Fi on the unit. The method used is a bit dated where you must manually join the Wi-Fi on the unit to configure. After this you can configure it to connect to the Wi-Fi of your choice. The unit refused to connect to the Wi-Fi after multiple attempts giving only a generic error. This Wi-Fi was setup as the most compatible to make connecting to appliances easy. The best guess is the problem was it couldn’t handle the space in the Wi-Fi name as it would connect without problem to a similar Wi-Fi setup that had no spaces. Once it is connected to the app you can create schedules for cooling, drying, or just running the fan. If you don’t care to connect it to the internet, the only thing you lose is scheduling.
Any single hose portable AC unit comes with some expected loss in efficiency as some of the air cooled is used to send the hot air out the exhaust, which is why this 12,000btu unit is rated at 8,000btu. The strange thing is that an 8,000btu air conditioner is rated for a 250-400sqft room while this unit is rated for 450-550sqft. In usage, it seems the more conservative number of 250-400 is more accurate. While using it in a 450sqft fully insulated garage, this AC unit could only bring the overall temperature down by 2 degrees running for 6 hours. For reference, the entire garage space, including the door, is insulated with blown insulation with an R rating exceeding that of a standard home. Also, the 2 degree drop in temp was observed at the same time the outside temperatures had dropped. The room would feel slightly cooler, but only in front of the unit. For reference, opening the door to the main part of the house could yield similar cooling in less than an hour without requiring pulling outside air in. One thing that might help is insulating the exhaust hose. While you can feel the cool air coming out of the front of the unit, the back around the hose adds nearly as much heat right back into the room with the hose being noticeably hot to the touch. Further checks show the exhaust hose at about 116F.
While there are certainly some limitations, this style cooler has some advantages. For example, if you can’t put a window AC unit outside for either noise pollution or just general space this 3-in-1 can be useful. It also hasn’t been any louder on the inside so far than normal window AC units. It also works with vertical windows. For some, the flexibility to use it as a dehumidifier can also come in handy. Some areas can have moderate temperatures, but the high humidity makes things feel uncomfortable even with AC. To use it as a dehumidifier you don’t use the exhaust hose, but you do need to connect a standard style garden hose for drainage. It also can serve as an air filter and ionizer, but this feature seems more limited. While it does have a filter, there are no standardized ratings listed to show if it helps with things like allergies. It would be best to assume the filter is most helpful for basic filtering of a room.
Final Thoughts
While it seems Frigidaire exaggerated on how large of a room it can handle it still functions nicely as a portable AC unit. If you are in the unique situation where the pros of a single hose portable air conditioner outweigh the cons, the Frigidaire 3-in-1 air conditioner could be a good match for you. Just follow the standard rating system of how large of space an 8,000btu air conditioner can handle and you should be happy and get the bonus of AC with extra functionality.

CraigB, we appreciate you taking the time to leave your very thorough and detailed review of this portable air conditioner. We would like to apologize for the trouble you encountered while setting this unit to the app and are thankful that you found the video we have to help ease the installation process.
The allergen filter captures pollen, household dust, dust mite debris, pet hair, dander, and other fine particles and it is important to note that for optimal performance the filter needs to be replaced at a minimum of every 6 months and we recommend only using Frigidaire Genuine Filters to ensure the best quality air. Our filters will have our berry-colored design & will be marked with the Genuine Filter seal showing their authenticity.
We are bummed that you are not satisfied with the size of room this unit is able to cool. This model is rated for a maximum of 550 sq. ft. and we understand that these crazy hot summer days are really pushing all air conditioners to their limits this year. We also understand how frustrating that can be. - Best Regards, Kailey

Don’t buy open-box. Item kept getting delayed. Finally arrived with scratches, structural damage, kept turning off if wire was moved AND was leaking water onto my carpets. Mind you this was an open-box excellent.. seems like they don’t adhere to testing returns before placing them back on shelves. I have this same unit in my bedroom (10kBTU) brand new.. that one is a gem. Now I have to wait for them to pick this one up to get a refund because I’m not lugging it back to the store for an exchange.

Works Well, But Know It’s Limits
TLDR; Capable of cooling a room up to 550 square feet. The 3 modes are cooling, dehumidifier and fan-only. It has 3 fan speeds (low, med, high) but can be set to Auto to automatically control speeds based on temperature setting vs actual ambient temp. Has built-in air ionizer to reduce airborne particles. Dust filter can be removed and washed. Has wheels for easy portability and weighs 63lbs when you need to carry it upstairs.
After a few days of testing, the Frigidaire 3-n-1 Portable Air Conditioner, model FHPC102AC1, was more than capable of cooling a large area of my room. I have a section of my home where the family room and the kitchen share an open area, and I placed the unit right in the middle. Conveniently, there is a window that is in between the two sections and it was an easy task to assemble and hook up the vent to this. Yes, ladies and gents, you’ll need to vent this AC unit in order for it to be fully efficient. As it cools air and feeds it into your home, it is also expelling hot air. Having set on Auto at 72 degrees, the Frigidaire is able to keep this area cool and comfortable.
Using the unit is very simple. It has tactile buttons on the face of the unit, yet is integrated to the panel so that dust and moisture doesn’t get into it. It has a swinging flap that distributes air more evenly, but can be turned off if you choose. There are buttons that enable the swinging flap, select mode (Cool, Dry, Fan), select fan speeds and turn on/off the unit. If you intend to use Wifi, there is a Wifi button that allows you to pair with the Frigidaire app. Finally, there are indicators to remind you to replace the air filter as well as clean off the dust filter, and corresponding buttons to reset their indicators.
By far the biggest selling point for this unit is its Wifi integration. Wifi integration means that as long as the AC unit is connected to your Wifi at home, you’ll be able to control it from anywhere. So think of those times when you maybe forgot to turn on the AC, or even forgot to turn it off. You can also control temperature, mode and fan speeds much like you can from the unit itself. From here, you can also set schedules for when you want the unit to be on and off, and at what temperature/mode/fan speed.
Obviously the reason you would buy a unit like this is for its portability. I currently live in a home with central AC, but I don’t really need to cool the entire house. With this unit, I can just have it running in the master bedroom to keep myself feeling comfortable throughout the evening during the summer nights. This ultimately uses less energy vs running the central AC.
One drawback from this unit is the amount of noise it creates, especially in Cooling mode. Even at the lowest fan setting, the compressor still can generate a good amount of noise, so watching a movie, listening to music or having a normal conversation can be a tiny bit challenging with this thing close by. But in its defense, all other AC units kind of share the same fate. Running it in fan mode is by far the quietest you can get it.
As far as performance and energy use, it doesn’t take long for the AC to cool any room within its capabilities. The output fan pushes a lot of cold air into the room as it tries to achieve your desired temperature. Once the temperature is met, the compressor shuts off and the AC will begin to slowly taper off its fan and eventually shut off. Depending on how insulated your home is, that may happen many times throughout the day and is typical for a unit to do this. Just remember, whenever it goes idle for those few minutes, it’s not using any electricity.
Finally, there’s maintenance; almost every portable AC has a drain plug to remove excess condensation, preferably done before storage. This should be done to avoid mold and bacteria growth within the unit and the obvious overflowing of liquid out of the internal pan. Maybe once a month is reasonable to check as I didn’t really catch how often you were supposed to do this in the manual.
Some things to consider: 550 sq ft (a 22 ft x 25 ft area, for example) does not account for ceiling height, or essentially cubic feet. A typical home may have a 7-10 feet ceiling height, which I think would be the nominal height for a ceiling, but there are some homes with vaulted ceilings and will reduce your overall square footage coverage. Also 550 sq ft assumes an area that is sealed (windows are closed, has doors closed from other rooms). Even if you have an area of your home that is 550 sq ft in size, if you have adjacent rooms with no doors, the energy will just dissipate into the other room(s) and your AC will have to work much harder to cool it down to your desired temperature. Think of this like driving in your car with the AC on, but you have your windows open. I guess what I’m trying to say is that the Frigidaire can get the job done easily, but you’ll need to help it do its job. Finally, the AC unit draws a lot of energy, between 11-13 amps. A lot of homes have 15 amp circuit breakers and if you plug this in that circuit along with a computer or other devices sharing the circuit, the breaker will trip.
