My first reaction to this speaker was I was very happy with it's performance out of such a small package. But I am not sure about it as this product has become defective and I will have to take it back for a replacement.

Disappointed the Geek Squad Protection I ordered was not in my order.

Ordered on-line for pick-up and had to wait 30 min

Bought to use with side by side for off roading, can't hear over the engine. Tried on jet skis, same issue. It's great when you're stopped or just general outside listening.

I only care about sound quality. It has weird sound in mid to high frequencies, starting from 4khz to whatever audible frequencies. Sadly, I had to return it.

I consider myself Bluetooth speaker junkie and research plenty before buying. I purchased this speaker after seeing the review of clivinetjunkie on YouTube. I implore all to watch his reviews prior to making a big purchase. I bought this due to it having a great sound but most of all, great battery life, construction and durability. It fills a camping niche I have for a speaker where I don't have to worry about protecting it. This speaker came uncharged, so I had to charge all night before listening. When I pulled it out, my initial impression was how solid it felt for such a small speaker. When I turned it on, there is a pleasant voice prompt. Once paired, I played some simple classic rock songs and the sound was rich and the bass was registering at low frequencies. The bass is present but not. I worked through rap and R&B and noticed in loud environments, the bass gets drowned-out easily. This speaker is omnidirectional so you can place in the middle of the group and all will hear. I actually like the subdued, but present bass as to not upset other campers around me and have a full listening experience where I am at. This speaker satisfies my basic listening needs in a weatherproof, indestructible package. I recommend as a middle of the road speaker with top of the line durability and construction

This is a very loud speaker which I liked. The battery lasted very long even with the volume up and could be heard very well at the beach with the wind. The speaker handled the elements no problem including rain and sand. My issue was the voice activation. Even with the setting off, the voice mode would trigger Siri while streaming music which was extremely annoying. No matter what I did I couldn't get this to stop and it was random. I contacted support and other than deactivating voice mode, which I did, nothing else could be done. The microphone was too sensitive. Also, the controls to switch forward and backward tracks didn't always work. Lastly, it is heavy and bulky. I found it a bit much for bringing to the beach in a bag everyday. While the volume was great, the weight and size were a bit much. I liked the UE Megaboom better in this respect. Overall, depending on your need, the sound quality is excellent. But it's not small and has some quirks.

I tried several Bluetooth speakers and read a multitude of reviews prior to purchasing the Tough XL. I ordered in Best Buy (great job Joanna). Once it arrived I couldn't wait to try it. When I did, I was very impressed with the crisp highs, clear mid range and thumping bass, all without any distortion, even at full volume. This is a great speaker and I am confident it will take the bumps, beaches and mud. I was also in contact with Fugoo support prior to purchase. Another great customer service experience (Thanks Warren). I highly recommend purchasing these speakers, you will not be disappointed.

Great build quality, no, fantastic build quality, that alone made it very difficult to return. It's marketed as having great sound; but it doesn't. It has okay sound, maybe even 'Make Do' sound, but certainly nowhere near great. It doesn't play anywhere near loud enough, regardless of the indoor or outdoor settings. You can hear a difference between the two settings, (some kind of spatial trickery), but so what? I pay good money for quality SPL baby! Does it at least sound clear and presentable when your in the mood for sipping a cup of Earl Grey? Yeah, maybe, but I drink beer, Canadian beer at that, and this thing won't cut it. Please guys, go back to the drawing board, you've got a heck of a good start. This speaker is solid. Built like a tank. It really was hard to return it. It just needs to sound like I'm gettin' my money's worth. I'd pay $50.00 bucks more if that meant it would seriously kick out the jams. When the engineers tested these units, did they really play any Rock & Roll or Hip Hop? Oh yeah, I wanted to check for that outrageous battery life, but, I ain't drinking tea for no 40 hours; I'm just not doin' it. Oh, and one other thing. Where did all those glowing reviews come from? ...............

It was a little shaky at first had to return the first one I bought, it was popping and making terrible noises when I first used it, But the replacement has been ok with one exception, it started buzzing loudly and would not respond. Had to read the manual and reset it, once reset it was ok and is very loud and is super clear on the high end. I have owned the smaller fugoo for a couple of years and I can testify that these speakers are super durable.

I purchased this then took it back because it did not project sound like the Boss version.

If you want big sound, nice bass, quality highs and mids, with a exceptional rugged build then this is the product for you!!!!

Like most everyone, I read reviews before making a purchase. The Fugoo XL Tough was no exception. I have been searching for a replacement for the Beats Pill XL due to a recall. I waited for the Tough release, and purchased it at Best Buy yesterday. Unfortunately there were none on display to afford a listening test. Upon opening the package at home I was impressed with the rugged design and features, although the USB waterproof door took a good bit of prying/pulling the first time. Set up was extremely easy, and the voice prompts are cool. But then it went downhill from there. The sound quality and volume is nowhere near the Beats (which I have not yet returned for recall). I conducted a blind hearing test with four other subjects over a range of music styles and volumes, and every one picked the Beats hands down. I could deal with somewhat less peak volume on the Fugoo if the sound quality was there, but it isn't. At every range the sound is muddled as if it was under a pillow. I tried it in "normal" and "outdoor" settings with minor differences though "outdoor" does go a bit louder. I'm very disappointed for a much-touted product in a crowded field. I am returning the Fugoo later today to consider the JBL Xtreme or Big Jambox..

I had a beats pill xl .. And had to send it back because of a over heating fire hazard recall we used it for our traveling baseball team for walk up songs and a pump me up music ... I heard about the fugoo xl tough and it said louder than the beats xl pill.. Well it's not true at all sound isn't louder at all .. Spent 359.00 and it ain't worth it.. It was built up to be the loudest Bluetooth speaker... And what a let down ...

Sound was not that loud. And it broke on me within the first week. Thought it could keep up with my lifestyle. Not worth buying

This is a great bluetooth portable speaker. Very sturdy and heavy as it should be. It produces great sounds while being loud enough. Build quality is excellent. All of my friends love it.

I came across this speaker by accident. My son and I were in the store shopping for Father's Day. He turned the volume up on this speaker and I was hooked. In my opinion it's on the expensive side (I'm a bit of a cheapskate....) but the value is worth every penny. My husband LOVES it. He charges it and keeps it at work (that's disappointing for me). It's very simple to link your phone to it. A cool feature is it will talk to you and tell you how much battery is left. I'll probably get one for the garage

Build quality is phenomenal, sound is well balanced and battery life is super.

I wanted to love the Tough XL and waited for its release. It came with what sounded like blown tweeters, so I exchanged it and the 2nd one distorted in the mid-range. It seems like it would have good sound without these defects, but I gave up and exchanged it for the JBL Extreme, which sounds quite good without tweeter issues. I tested both speakers with jazz, classical, rap and rock.

Best speaker I bought ! It has lasted for years and is still playing music until this day. My parents actually took it from me and took it to their new place .
