    Excellent movie

This is such a great and classic movie. It’s been a number of years since I saw it last, but this is the best it has ever looked. The picture quality looks fantastic in 4K. Very clean and detailed image especially in the first half. The second half of the movie has a little more grain, but still looks great. HDR brings new life to the scenes and makes this look like it was recently filmed. The SteelBook looks awesome as well.

    Solid 4k transfer

Solid 4k transfer here. Slight layer of grain throughout. Some shots were a bit more focused than others, but that is mostly due to directors intent. The 4k PQ seems to improve as the film goes on. Im very happy with this transfer. Very smooth with all the scratches and tears patched up. I wouldnt demo this disc if im trying to show off my panel, but it does make the film look good.

I love the movie but I hated my shipping experience. The movie came to my house and the case was cracked as was the disc itself so I had to return it.

Whole Movie is a War Classic

Almost everyone who has seen Full Metal Jacket loves the first half in basic training, with R. Lee Ermey as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman destroying and building back up young men into vicious killers, and the consequential mental breakdown of Private Leonard "Gomer Pyle" Lawrence, played fantastically by Vincent D'Onofrio. Half of viewers then tune out in the second half, when the protagonist, Private "Joker", is deployed to Vietnam, as it's much slower and bleaker. While it is no "Apocalypse Now", the second half does a great job of showing the results of the Vietnam War on both Vietnam the country and the psyches of combatants on both sides. In 4K with HDR, the details of the sets and outdoor shots give the film an even better look than before. If you watched it before and only remember liking the first half, I suggest giving it another shot. If you've never seen it before, behind "The Shining" it makes for a pretty good intro movie into Stanley Kubrick's filmography.

    FULL METAL 4K

This 4K of Full Metal Jacket looks better to me than my blu-ray from 2011 (and that disc still looks good to me) and that's why you upgrade, right? The movie itself is not a pretty picture and it never will be, so in order to justify the upgrade you need a good reason and the best reason is it's a Stanley Kubrick movie. As a fan I'm more than willing to upgrade but did I get my moneys worth? I personally think so. This 4K is rich in details and bold color schemes and the black levels look so much better. I'm satisfied I made the right choice and upgraded. I can't tell if the included blu-ray is the same as the 2011 disc I already have. It doesn't matter anyway because I'll probably never watch it again. It will make a cool coaster I guess.

    Excellent 4K HDR Remaster

Great detail and color throughout the movie. Expect film grain and some intermittent softness considering this was shot on film over 30 years ago. HDR is not noticeable in the Parris Island scenes since there is not much that needs HDR. The only time it is noticeable is at the very end when Matthew Modine uses his flashlight when he gets fire watch duty. However, HDR is definitely an improvement for the scenes which take place in Vietnam. Most noticeable when fires and explosion occur. The sound quality is very good in terms of clarity of dialog and sound effects. There is some use of low frequency effects (when there is an explosion for example). There is no atmos which is a little disappointing. If you are fan of this movie, you should definitely have this in your collection.

    A Marine Corps Classic

It was AMAZING! It teaches me a lot about what they were like in war. I am actually learning about it right now in school and this movie helped me get an A+ on my science paper! Thank you so much to everyone who made this movie it really helped me out in school and in life. It was a great plot twist when the "fat guy" was getting punished in really terrible ways and then killed there captain and then killed himself wow I thought he would just be happy that he learned how to move his gun but I was wrong....... I am not gonna spoil anymore so if you see this before the movie........................................... GO WATCH IT IT'S SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!

    Stanley Kubrick's Vietnam war masterpiece

If you're not familiar with Full Metal Jacket then I'd strongly encourage a watch. It's surprisingly not as brutal as other war films but that's not to say it isn't action packet because the second half certainly is. It's basically a story about humanity that shows how people in war are treated and dehumanized to become killing machines. Masterfully made with nice steelbook packaging courtesy of Best Buy. One note would be the paint on my disc was very fresh and made the top not smooth and when I received a replacement it had the same issue. This never happened to me with a 4K disc or BestBuy exclusive steelbook before so hopefully never happens again.

    An important film

This is about as raw as it can get. Many people cite the first half of the movie that takes place during basic training as the best part of the movie. I'm not going to argue that but I will say that the second half of the movie that portrays the Marines in country is just as powerful yet very different. There is a feeling that you want to look away or cover your ears at some points, the violence and racial epithets are quite visceral; but softening them would detract from the movie. The 4K visuals are great. I wished they had spent a little money and deleted the high tension electrical towers seen in the background of Viet Nam. LOL

this is my opinion so don't get mad if you seen this and disagree with it. the whole bootcamp training with vincent donofrio is amazing! its chilling and scary, specially the ending for that first part. then after that the movie kinda goes down in entertainment. you just have a bunch of soldiers straight out of camp thinking theyre badasses and when it comes to confronting others they fear up and act tough. that has been done over and over. the shots are beautiful tho! the colors on screen really pop out overall it is a good product

As long as there is a disc, digital copy, and a steelbook option, this will stay 5 stars. The design of the case is awesome. The only "bad thing to say is the quality really doesnt look improved (which if you don't know anything about film, you would think is a given) even though many movies are specifically rescanned in 4k with HDR, and I just don't see that this one was.

A must own Kubrick movie! A harrowing look at Vietnam through the eyes of one man and how he tries to make sense of it while not losing his self identity. 4k transfer is beautiful and HDR works well where needed. The sound pops on this transfer. Makes good use of your surround and my rumble seats shook like no other.

To me one of most accurate portrayals of basic training ever put on film, and this is what I have always loved about the movie. The second half I have come to appreciate after repeat viewings over time. I just look at it as two different movies, and it works for me.

Probably the definitive home video presentation of Kubrick's 1987 Vietnam saga. As with most of his films, FULL METAL JACKET is a singular experience. There is no other Vietnam picture quite like it. Warners has done a magnificent job with the transfer.

I watched this movie years ago, and it has always been one of my favorites. For this reason, when I saw this movie on sale and in 4K UHD, I knew I had to get it. The movie plot is very compelling and gives you a good idea of what it was like to be a grunt during the Vietnam War.

The film has never looked better yet still holds the grittiness fans have come to expect from the movie. Growing up in a military family, it was a must see for all us Military kids. Yep, no one wanted to go to Paris Island after this! As an adult, I can appreciate the direction and style of the film. It’s not for everyone, it’s not one of those disc I’ll watch every year-but it will be one I’ll revisit from time to time. It’s not an easy watch; it’s made to make u feel uncomfortable and it does that very well.

There is no need to speak of what a great film this is. That being said the transfer in the picture quality in 4K is phenomenal. I am two other copies of this movie one on DVD and one on Blu-ray. The 4K transfer blows the Blu-ray transfer away. It is most noticeable in the second part of the film during the Vietnam scenes.I am completely satisfied with my purchase.

This movie is excellent. I love war movies and I definitely see this movie as a win! It’s funny at times, but it also shows the horrors of war and the challenges that come with it. The whole movie is great, the first and the second half are amazing! Steelbook is awesome too! Happy to have it in the collection.

I seen this movie in theatres years ago and was shocked by Kubrick's screenplay and story and now to see it at home on 4K is nothing short of amazing the story, the characters, about how it was in Marine Bootcamp in the late 60's/early 70's is astounding and I was glued to the screen back in the day and still am today. I served 16+ years US Navy Honorably and this is one of my fav's of defining cinematic classics.
