I have always just used a relatively cheap flat screen TV for my outdoor patio viewing area. The sun was always an issue with the glare, so if you weren't pretty close to the TV, the picture was hard to see. I finally made the decision to get the outdoor-specific television, and it makes an incredible difference! The picture is bright and visible at all hours of the day, even with some sun directly on it. The webOS software included on it makes set-up with your home network simple, and the streaming options included (and that can be added) are easily accessible through the webOS remote that is included. It includes two extended range wi-fi attennas, and the signal pick-up is very strong outside. The connection with my Roku stick and JBL sound bar was literally instant- I don't think I even had to install either one. I only use the streaming stick for familiarity -not because it's needed. One thing I will caution you on- this TV is HEAVY. Make sure you have someone strong help you with installation, or possibly even consider professional installation. In hindsight, I wish I would have. If you're wondering if an outdoor tv really makes a difference - it does. I'm a believer now, and this is a really good one to consider.
