Customers are saying

Customers highly value the Dash Cam™ 45 Full HD's excellent video quality and ease of use, frequently praising its compact size and helpful features like lane departure warnings and GPS. However, some users reported issues with the mount, battery life, and the device's susceptibility to overheating. While the price is often cited as a positive, concerns about the included memory card and long-term reliability were also noted.

This is my third Garmin Dash Cam. Ease of set up, operation. video quality and the price make this a great choice for a dash cam. The Garmin 55, which I also have is even better because of hands-free voice control capability

5 Stars: Ease of operation, basically plug and play. 1080P Video quality is Excellent. Small size is very unobtrusive when mounted on windshield. Audio quality is also very good. All videos are automatically labeled with date/time, lat/long and vehicle speed, which was a big plus for me. The dash cam came with a 8Gb microSD card but I replaced it with a 64Gb microSD for greater storage capacity. Dash Cam comes with cigarette power cable which was easy to route along my car's headliner. I have ordered the "hard wired" power cable, so I can utilize the cam's "parking mode" feature, which requires the cam to be hard wired. I recommend doing the same, otherwise the Dash Cam will only record video while the ignition is on. I also purchased a 37mm Circular Polaroid Lens (CPL) filter and 28-37mm adapter mount that fitted over the dash cam's lens to cut down on early morning/late afternoon windshield glare (see second attached photo). For total hands-free operation, go with the Garmin 55 Dash Cam. A little more expensive, the same size as the 45 but with voice recognition vs manual buttons

Awesome car camera. It actually had more features than I thought. Like lane assist. Redlight camera notification, and many more extras. Pictures/Videos are extremely good quality. Easy to install. I’ll be buying 2 more for my other vehicles.

I purchased this camera to supplement my Cobra dash cam in the event one of them fails. I absolutely love the small size. Really easy and fun to share my videos to my iPhone and the tube now!

It doesn’t work in uniform. Some times it makes a buzzing sound to make alert of lane escaping, possible front collision, moving vehicle but some times it doesn’t. This makes so confusing and disgusting.

Our Best Buy did not have a huge selection of dash cams. We bought two of these after a streak of vandalism in our neighborhood. Upon setting up, one was broke from the get go. The other one worked for a day and kept giving us low battery warnings. We tried home charging it to see if that would work and nothing.

Has pretty good image quality and connects to the mobile app or computer just fine. Make sure you set it up first and set the loop option or it will just run out of space. I would recommend the 64gb micro SD card for it instead of the one it comes with because you will want more storage. What i like is the Time Lapse mode. Its just fun to place with. And yes it still records video and incidents while you are in timelapse mode (as i have found out buy trying it out). Image quality is better than my Car&Driver 1 Eye Pro (in my opinion) and feels to be more of a solid unit. The only cons i have are the mount. (But not big cons) You get one plate and 2 mounting adhesive pads. If you live in a place, or drive anywhere, that causes you to get a few windshields a year i would either one MOVE or invest in buying more adhesive pads from Garmin. (option 1 would probably be best) BUT if you are not in that type of place then it is AWESOME! Device is easy to use, intuitive, and you can turn things off/on may settings that you don't want as part of the recording. It records sounds (and my terrible commentaries/outbursts ;) while i am driving - but that too can be turned off) All in all great little unit i actually purchase two and put one in each of my vehicles (you can name the unit)

Nice little camera. Lots of nice features. I did not know, however, that it adds forward collision detection, lane departure warning, and can even tell you when a red light is coming up and when traffic ahead of you starts moving. I also didn't know how annoying the constant, unnecessary the constant noise can be. Wish I knew how to turn it off. But, the instructions aren't that great.

Records great video & sound. Good size so it doesn't take up space in the windshield. Easy to set up w/ good features. Only drawback is that when it gets too hot it shuts off. Try to keep it shaded like I have & it works like a charm!

GPS, decent angle of view, small (fits easily out of view behind mirror) to start recording where allowed as per state law to deal with those drivers on the road with ... skills. Further to record in timelapse the nice sunday and holiday drives. Good to start with and will move to the rear once a 1440P or better 2160P model of the 65W becomes available. Bought one for my brother as well as and gave him a 16GB card and USB adapter stick. 64GB cards though recommended to have a longer archive

I bought one of these before going on a big trip to Yellowstone for vacation this summer. We would have totally missed getting a photo of a Black Bear if it was not for this camera. By the time we could stop and park, and get the camera, the bear was already gone into the woods. We have some GREAT photos from the dashcam videos, we were able to get some great still shots from the video from this camera. Well worth the money. It also helped as being a witness to an accident that I was not involved with. I was able to provide video to show who was at fault, the person ran the stop light causing the accident of course denied running the red light. This saved an innocent driver from being blamed for this accident or having to settle for 1/2 of the fault since it could not be determined any other way. The video PROVED who ran the light. Now I have a Garmin Dashcam in all 3 vehicles.

So far, I have had zero issues with overheating. Previous reviewers have said that this camera has overheating issues but it looks like the latest firmware update eliminated the problem. I am writing this from south Florida in July. It can't get much hotter here and the camera has worked perfectly. The wifi connection is a little slow but when you see the size of the files it's transferring, you understand why. The image quality is excellent so I think it is worth the wait. The only thing I don't like are the alerts. Forward collision works perfectly but the lane change warning goes off continuously on curved roads and inside lanes of highways. They are easy to turn off but I wanted the feature to work. Overall, I am happy so I can't complain too much. I'm planning to have it permanently installed soon so the parked feature will work as well.

The video quality from this camera is awesome, even when viewed on a big TV. No users manual is included, which is surprising for a $150 item. The quick-guide is useless, the link to the manual did not work, and the wifi app you're supposed to be able to use would not work with my tablet, which isn't even that old. The one-minute video files are a chore to deal with, and I could not find a way to change it. You can do a lot better for the price.

HD quality videos. I like the lane assist, collision warning and red light alert features. Price was reasonable, I bought it deal of the day. Very easy to install on the windshield. Unit feels solid, it’s not cheaply made. It’s not to small and not too big to annoy you while driving.

Well designed and low-key. Easy to set up. Info shown on playback video includes date, time, GPS location (accurate longitude and latitude), and driving speed; users can choose which data to be included. It also records audio, again users can choose to turn it on or off. Pictures can be taken anytime during video recording, and it comes with a function of creating time-lapse videos. Picture quality is 1080P, good enough for personal use. Have been using it for about 10 trips so far, the average memory card usage is 4.3 GB per hour of recording. It comes with a 8-GB memory card, need to replace it with 32- or 64-GB cards for longer trips. It can accept up to 64 GB micro SD card. Data transfer to computer via cable is easy, or users can use its App to download saved videos to smart phones. The camera itself sends out Wifi signals, and the signal strength is displayed on screen as you drive around. Overall, it is a great dash camera for personal use.

I wasn't sure if I would like this dash cam at first since it didn't have a suction mount, but it has grown on me. The camera mounts to the winshield via a magnetic disc with tape on one side. Once you let it set for 24 hours you can attach the mount and camera to the windshield. In the box I got there was a extra magnetic disc that I could put into another car if I wanted too since its a magnetic mount all you have to do is pull the camera mount off the windshield and move it to rhe other car. (The magnetic disc stays on the windshield) I currently have the Thinkware H50 too, but I like this one better. The plus for this dash cam are: built-in Wi-Fi, portable (up to two cars) built-in screen, warning sounds (follow to close, crossing a white line, and traffic is moving) there is a feature for traffic lights, but I don't have it active, long power cord, small in size, a short cord ro transfer videos or pictures to your computer if you don't have a smartphone and a app (download videos and pictures to your smartphone) The negatives: limited portability, (only 2 magnetic disc), small include microsd card, gets hot after long use, and the Wi-Fi (sometimes it's slow to connect and view videos via the app). There is one other thing. I have read about it overheating and shutting off, but so far my has not shut off do to over heating. The screen does shut off after a minute when first starting up, but it still is recording. So far I'm happy with it.

I purchased this camera with the knowledge of people having overheating issues, but I also knew about the recent firmware update. Since version 2.70, there is absolutely no overheating issue with this dash cam. I live in FL where parked cars get very hot, and I haven't had any heat issues. I updated the firmware in Garmin Connect prior to installing the camera, and it has worked flawlessly ever since. The controls are easy to use, it has several helpful features, and best of all, the camera is very small so it doesn't get in the way while you're looking out of your windshield. Video quality is excellent, and wireless connection with the Garmin VIRB app works well.

Very nice product for the money. People complaining either don't know how to properly operate it or they got a faulty unit. Mine works great and never overheats (even in a dark brown truck in Oklahoma summer sun!), and it has cool driving alerts for lane departure and forward collision warning. The video quality is great and I turned sound off so I think it saves moreon the included memory card. Completely satisfied! Only thing I might do is buy the hard wire kit so I can wire it in rather than use cig lighter power. Great buy for the money, get it!
