We used the camera for the first time on a road trip out west. It was fun to see what we captured along the way using the time lapse feature. The camera is tiny, and fits nicely behind the rear view mirror. It conveniently attaches with a magnet rather than Velcro.

The Garmin 45 Dash Cam is a good dash cam with many features. Some of the features such as crash avoidance and lane keeping could be more sensitive. The GPS feature is good to document location and time. Should come with extra mounting disc so it could be used on different vehicles in the family.

Love my new Dash Cam. Has a lot of features and shuts off when you turn off your vehicle unless you hot wire it which I will in the future. They have an app to add to your phone as well to get all photos and video off of the Dash Cam for safe keeping. Super happy with this product.

Got this because a woman ran a red light and I broadsided her. She insisted that she had the green. Thankfully two people stopped an confirmed she ran a red. My car was totaled. This is vital if there are no witnesses.

Easy to install. All the features work great with the exception of the lane deviation warning. This only seems to work perfectly at night. Garmin's user manual could be a little more detailed when it comes to aiming the camera. The rear end collision avoidance alarm works perfectly when set to medium.

It's a great camera alone, for its clarity being able to shoot in 1080... not many features to it. . but does do everything it's intended for. Bigger gig sd card might help... and certainly more features on the VIRB app. .

Records great video & sound. Good size so it doesn't take up space in the windshield. Easy to set up w/ good features. Only drawback is that when it gets too hot it shuts off. Try to keep it shaded like I have & it works like a charm!

Thank you for your review. A software update is available to prevent premature shutdowns in elevated temperatures. The software of the device can be updated with Garmin Express, which can be downloaded at www.garmin.com/express. Thanks, James Garmin

Nice little camera. Lots of nice features. I didn't know, however, that it adds forward collision detection, lane departure warning, and can even tell you when a red light is coming up and when traffic ahead of you starts moving. I also didn't know how annoying the constant, unnecessary the constant noise can be. Wish I knew how to turn it off. But, the instructions aren't that great.

Awesome car camera. It actually had more features than I thought. Like lane assist. Redlight camera notification, and many more extras. Pictures/Videos are extremely good quality. Easy to install. I'll be buying 2 more for my other vehicles.

This is a great little dash cam! I love the attachment, glue the small metal base to the windshield and the camera attaches magnetically. Easy to move in and out of vehicle. GPS location on videos. Lots of driver awareness features, lane drift, forward collision warning, traffic moving alert when stopped, red traffic light and traffic camera alerts. Connect with smart phone to access video. I recommend this dash cam!

I bought 2 of these Garmin dash cams, one for myself and one for my fiance for Valentine's Day! I love all of the features that they have and that they can be customized to fit both of our needs. I have mine set with lane departure, front end collision, and speed/red light camera warnings. I also have it set so that it does not record audio. My fiance has his set to record audio and how his current mile-per-hour whenever a video is saved. It's easy to save videos and photos, and the app is easy to naviagate!! I definitely recommend.

Bought during the Black Friday sale so the price was right! No heat issues for me but I do not check it every time. Turns on and records...... Picture quality is good and has features like collision alert that show up on the screen. Only thing I wish it had was a better mount system. The current one is nice but would have liked to have had a screw in mount type system since there are larger variety to choose from. Otherwise this is a nice unit and will be purchasing another one when they go on a good sale again!

This dashcam is great! When driving if it detects an accident, it automatically records the last three minutes leading up to the crash. You can also snapshot with a single click. It tells you when you're departing your lane, when you're getting too close to the car in front of you, and when your at a light, it will tell you when the cars in front of you start moving, just in case you're not fully paying attention. overall I'm very pleased with the purchase of this device, it performs above any expectations I had. The only issue I see with it, is that they should make a suction cup mount for it. Once you mount it somewhere you can't move the mount, it's a magnet with double sided 3M tape.

So far, I have had zero issues with overheating. Previous reviewers have said that this camera has overheating issues but it looks like the latest firmware update eliminated the problem. I'm writing this from south Florida in July. It can't get much hotter here and the camera has worked perfectly. The wifi connection is a little slow but when you see the size of the files it's transferring, you understand why. The image quality is excellent so I think it's worth the wait. The only thing I don't like are the alerts. Forward collision works perfectly but the lane change warning goes off continuously on curved roads and inside lanes of highways. They are easy to turn off but I wanted the feature to work. Overall, I'm happy so I can't complain too much. I'm planning to have it permanently installed soon so the parked feature will work as well.

This is my first dashcam and definitely one I'll be keeping for a while. Mine is located just to the left of the rear view mirror. Know that you can't just open it up and start recording; the mount is magnetic based (which is good, you can remove it from sight when you need to, or between cars) but you'll need to position the mount on the windshield and let it rest for 24 hours before use. During this time, you can be updating the firmware and learning the functionality. Records video and sound well (a little too well, I can hear my awful voice crystal clear while singing to music haha). Picture at night is surprisingly better than I thought, and it can generally see what you can. Have had no deal-breaking issues such as overheating. As for the three gimmicky features; Lane Departure and Forward Collision alerts work better than I imagined, even at night. For lane departure warnings to work, the line must be solid white/yellow, so it won't alert you if you're floating into another actual lane. "Traffic is moving" warning on the other hand is finnicky and alerts me after I've already began moving with the traffic. I'll have to adjust the sensitivity levels a bit. I would NOT rely on any of these three because they are not always accurate, and on occasion will either falsely alert you or not alert you at all. Otherwise a great dashcam!

I have this installed by a geek squad so I'm not sure how difficult it's for DIY. This camera is installed on my 2018 Honda Odyssey. It's a great dash camera and so far since last year, it's been performing flawlessly. The camera is small so it doesn't protrude vision out front. I live in Los Angeles, so heat was somewhat a concern for the reliability of the camera but, again no issues. It has features such as Lane Keeping Assist, Alerts, Stop sign recognition, and a VIRB Mobile App used to import videos and photos from dash cam to your mobile device. The dash camera even alerts you when a traffic camera ticket is available on the intersection. Now for the cons, the features are kinda annoying. For example, the camera traffic camera ticket feature is annoying because, it's GPS based so when I drive on the highway, it still alerts me even though the intersection is on the bottom of me. Secondly, the distance feature is crap because, once a car changed onto my lane he was extremely far out so it shouldn't alert me but, it did. Ultimately I think it's a good camera as long as if you turn off some of those features and if you can find one for around $140 as of 04/17/19. Any price higher than that is paying full price and this camera is quite old already. Thus, it's a buy! Depending on the price.

I went to Best Buy really looking for any inexpensive dash cam to use on a week long Jeep trip. This was on sale and had the Garmin name on it so I was sold. This dash camera more than met my needs. Installation and operation are easy. I put a spare 64GB microSD in it (that's the max size it will take) and that will more than suffice. The video is crisp and sounds are recorded with it. You will have the date, time, GPS coordinates and speed on the display. I like the travel time lapse feature. The two hour, 17 minute trip from Assateague Island to Virginia Beach yielded a 2 minute, 37 second video I could post. Although I really love this camera I gave it four stars. To get the videos off the microSD card in a usable format you have to use the Garmin VIRB app. Because the recording is saved in one minute chunks the app has to compile the clips into a video in order to save it to another device. The compiling does take a long time so make sure the dash cam is plugged into a power source. Despite this, I intend to upgrade to the Dash Cam 65 and give the 45 to my wife.

This Dash Cam is so small you forget it is there. I had mine installed just to the right of my windshield mirror. The software and the IPhone app function well. I was initially not pleased with all of the beeping from the lane departure, car in front motion after stop, and collision avoidance warning. My car has lane departure and active collision avoidance so the camera was duplicative and a bit annoying. But these features were easy to program out of the cam. The cam has 4 control/programming buttons. Since the cam is so small, the buttons are tiny. They take a little time to get used to. Installation, if you want the cam hardwired, seems to be a little complex. I had mine done by Geek Squad for very little money. Well worth it. To hard wire so that the cam will record if it sees motion when parked, requires a special cable. Overall a great camera.

Pay the extra money for a well known name brand. For the safety and security of your car, insurance and peace of mind, a $150 investment will avoid buyer's remorse with regards to a cheaper $50-$100 dash cam. I bought one for my first car, tried it out for a month and it worked superb, got a 2nd unit for my other car. The unit comes with all you need to get going. Set up is really easy, only difficult part at first is to figure out where you can run with wire along the roof, doors, floor and eventually to your 12V auxiliary power outlet. It has multiple safety features such has lane departure and collision alert. I've turned all them off as sometimes the alerts become a nuisance. Camera records well at night and day. I got a 32GB memory card and that's more than enough memory, the system is set so that when it's full it will write over the oldest file. File transfer to your phone is easy via wifi and the Garmin app. The files are viewed in one minute increments. I find that a little strange but still within reason. According to Garmin, keep the camera updated. It should not overheat when it gets hot outside. There's an auto-shutoff feature but it's not yet spring and the weather around here doesn't get that hot. I've found no cons for this dash cam yet. Hopefully it brings years of service without issue.
