I've only used the garmin for 2 days and like it very much so far. The voice is crisp and clear, easy to understand. Had no problem downloading the software, using the apps, or entering destinations. I bought it on sale, the price was good but doesn't have as many displays as my last Nuvi (which was stolen when my car was broken into).I might have given it a better rating if I had used it longer. I like it very much so far and will certainly keep it. I also purchased the camera back-up accessary, but have not installed it yet. I am eager to use it.

I really enjoyed the compact size of this. It's not big an bulky, but just right with a large enough screen. The directions were dead on on the mounting is really nice to use.

Bought this for my mom for xmas as a replacement for an older Garmin that died. Love the size and lifetime maps and didn’t need all the Bluetooth in the next model up.

Works fantastic, love that it shows gas stations and other points of interest as you drive without having to search for them. For the people saying it beeps at you too much to show changes of speed, school zones, etc it can be selected in the menus what you get notified of via sound. Solid road companion and free lifetime updates, what can be better?

I've been using Garmin GPS's for years and they are still the best for navigation. I've always gotten the ones with traffic over the years and I've rarely used the traffic. So this time I opted to go with a model without the traffic and only lifetime maps (51 LM) and I don't even miss the traffic. Lifetime maps are great, they usually come out about 4 times a year, so before going on a trip I always check to make sure it's up to date. As soon as you get this plug it into your computer and update it using the free Garmin Express. GPS's usually have updates right away after you get them because they get updated regularly so it's impossible for them to come updated from the factory. Also the software updates have bug and performance improvements to the GPS so another major reason to do them! GPS menus are super user friendly compared to other brands I've used. Overall I highly recommend this Garmin GPS.

Bought this because my brother-in law gets lost traveling here from NJ. He got home in time with no problems. He loved the graphics, the size and the volume.

    Good basic GPS

You get what you pay for is true for this GPS unit. It is a good basic GPS, probably on the high end of that type of unit. I was willing to spend more for a "better" unit but all those higher end units had bells and whistles I did not need or care for. I have used this several times over the past few weeks and have been pleased with its performance. It recalculates without making it a major pain in my neck. Previous unit from a different manufacturer would try to send me back to original route I chose to ignore (e.g. Richmond VA bypass & I-95) until my new route was shorter/faster than original. Still getting used to method of finding POIs as this function is much different than my previous (older) GPS but I can find a place for coffee or gas without too much problem. Entering/Saving/Searching for addresses has been easy for me. I updated this unit before using it for the first time and would recommend taking the time to do that. So overall I am pleased with this unit and recommend it unless you need the bells & whistles such as Bluetooth, etc. Then you should spend the extra $100 or so.

The unit wouldn't turn on when I first got it. I had to leave it plugged into my car for a half hour before it would turn on. It finally started responding and I found it wasn't real intuitive. It was OK if you wanted to stay in a default 5 state area. It took me a while struggling with somewhat cryptic instructions to figure out how to get to destinations outside the 5 state area. The number of names of businesses and attractions is impressive. They even had the name of a local fire company hall in the memory. The navigation is quite good. I like that it gives you the option of avoiding toll roads. I haven't tried to take any routes other than the suggested ones, but it doesn't look too complex. The unit will only work on it's own battery power for around a half hour. It had to recharge for a few minutes when I plugged it back into the car power before it would turn on.

Had a different brand years ago that finally "died" 3 years ago. So I started using the GPS on my phone. That just ate up battery & used data. Bought the Garmin a few weeks ago & love it. Still getting used to the features, but it is really easy to use. Free map updates was a key feature for me. (My old one didn't have that feature.). Looking forward to using it on our next vacation!!!

I purchased the Garmin Drive 51 LM GPS for an upcoming trip from Maine to CT. I have used it for a couple of in-state trips to familiarize myself with the device and its functions. It worked flawlessly for the trip where I was unfamiliar with the route, and the trip where I knew a route to my destination. The Drive 51 LM showed me a shorter route which was equally as good as the route I have always taken. I am satisfied with the device and its accuracy. Next time I will probably get one with Bluetooth, but this one is just fine for a starter GPS.

Free updates, good visuals, you can find just about anything, very accurate. The size is small but it was perfect for my car. Only real downside is that it does not connect to your phone and garmin app via bluetooth like so many others do. I really feel like that should be a standard feature on all GPS devices.

I have owned a Garmin navigator for well over 8 years. It became obsolete and, instead of getting the maps updated, I chose to buy a new one. My new Garmin is much brighter and easier to read, easier see at night and seems to show much more around the actual map like lakes, airports, etc. I do not like the number and letter buttons beause they are too small for my fingers. This is a real challenge for me as I usually end up inputting address 2-4 times.
