Previous owner of several GPS Units. Just purchased Garmin with Voice Command...Very easy, just plug in and go. The locator search is pretty much on point but turn off or down the radio to speak. The traffic update works just fine and is similar to other GPS Units I've used. I recommend the large screen for better visual use.

I bought my first Garmin Nuvi 200 about 6 years ago and loved it. But was going on a driving vacation and wanted to get an upgrade. Love the new features. The voice command came in handy when trying to find a gas station while driving. The new lane assist when taking an exit is also very good.

Purchased to switch over from Tom-Tom Go Devices. Overall I am pretty happy with the device and functionality. The voice command works very well. I am still learning device but overall finding locations is pretty straight forward. The companion app on mobile devices is a bit of a mixed bag. I really like that someone else can find a location on mobile device and forward it to the Garmin on the fly while I'm driving, however, what I don't like is that is seems to be limited to local area around where you are. Not a deal breaker, but a minor annoyance. Voice command works surprisingly well, but commands are a bit limited as well. Traffic and weather updates coming from linked smartphone work very well.Overall I would recommend this Garmin as a solid stand alone navigation with bonuses

I have never used a GPS device, so I have nothing to compare this to. I have only used it once to go somewhere my son knew where we were going so we could compare the directions and so I could familiarize myself with it since I purchased it because I have a special trip planned in September and needed the GPS to help me get there. It did pretty well, but I was grateful that my son was with me to help with the device. I needed it to tell me what lane to get in when there were multiple lanes on an exit and I needed to be in a specific one, but it didn't. It may do this in some locations, but not in any of the areas we went, and I will be traveling in very heavy traffic on highways with multiple turning lanes and turn only lanes that may have me going the wrong way if I am not in the right lane. I wish it were easier to go back one step instead of having to start over. I would get to a map and want to see the other optional map/route, but when I tried to go back, it would go all the way back to the start and I would have to start over putting in the destination. This would not be very safe when you are in the middle of driving. Also, I wanted to charge it at home and play with it some to get used to how to work it, but it takes numerous hours to charge plugged into the computer, and it drains down in less than 30 minutes. I contacted support online, and was told that it should be kept plugged in in the car during the trip or it will drain down. Since I would have to start all over again putting in the destination and choosing the route if I stopped to eat or take a break during the trip and had to turn it off, this is a big negative. A lot of it was confusing, and having to go online for the manual was a pain because it was link after link after link that never really answered my questions. I finally found a PDF version of the manual and printed it out, which was much more helpful. A semi-detailed "quick start" mini-book included with the device would have been a HUGE help. I still need to take it out on a few more practice runs to somewhere further away from home than our first excursion to be able to really know how to work it and how I like it.

The gps is better than I expected. I still haven't used all its features. I'm used to a bigger screen and the size of this one minimizes everything to the point where it's difficult to see exactly where you should turn for your destination. Fortunately, the Voice Command feature works perfectly! It understands what I say without exception and answers loud and clear. The four star rating is because of the terrible mount. I cleaned everything with alcohol before mounting, however the thing was undependable. Finally used two face tape. Works great.

A great upgrade from our older Garmin GPS (now we have one for the other car). Love the voice commands (NOT perfect but very good). Screen is a little glary in the sun but bright. Many new options like Bluetooth link to phone and traffic. Would recommend as replacement or first car gps.

This device has been very helpful when traveling on unfamiliar highways. I like that it shows what the speed limit is on the specific road you are traveling on. This is very helpful when traveling through multiple states where the speed limits are different than in my home state, because sometimes I miss seeing the speed limit sign. It even warns you when there is a reduced speed ahead. It works very well in the city, giving you advanced notice of when your turns are coming up, in plenty of time to be in the proper lane. I like that it alerts me on the highway to road construction ahead, telling me how many miles ahead of me it is and if there are any expected delays as a result. The ability to use hands free talking and text message option is nice if you have a vehicle that doesn't have it built in. It will read aloud the text messages you receive, and you can answer phone calls and talk through the device.

Garmin is my choice of a GPS. This is the 2nd one I have owned. It has a lot more features and is bigger than my first GPS. It is very easy to use and has been a dependable travel accessory.

After reading extensive reviews on Best Buy, I decided to buy this GPS because I was moving to MO and more drive was involved compared to NY.
So instead of burning data, thought of buying this little gem.
After receiving box,
The setup was easy.
1. I just connected GPS device to my laptop and updated the maps.
Make sure you have close to 20GB free space on your device because an image file is being created for maps on your local computer first then being updated on the device.
it was not hours of wait to get the map updated, my maps were updated in close to 20-25 mins.
2. device took little longer to switch on, but once charged, it was good.
3. tested in MO, it is good. working flawlessly. you have feature to add excat address or search the place like on google maps.
4,. the turn by turn direction is very helpful - specially for a new driver in states like me.
go for it, itis almost amonth now, I am going to update the maps again.
it does not show the live traffic unless you pair it with your mobile.
i did not try that.

I first used this Garmin a few months ago on a weekend trip to Connecticut and It got me where I needed to go with only one misdirection. I made sure to get the latest updates before I used it. I am only giving 4 stars because this week on one trip it took me the long way around on local trip that should have taken me a little over an hour to make. It took me 2 hours.( Recommendation: if you know you're not supposed to turn, don't turn ! ). I used it again yesterday and it identified my destination ( you have arrived ), about a mile from where I was supposed to be. I asked a human being for directions and found the place. Apparently the data is not as updated as it is supposed to be. I will use it again, but I will also give Google Maps my priority attention.

I would have given this five stars except battery life is poor and speech recognition is something to be desired but it's better than not having any speech recognition. Overall it works very well and I would recommend it.

I use this GPS often for work. Navigating in town and on the highways, this device performs great. Lots of good features, such as the hands-free calling and text feature. The only real downside to this is that there is no satellite view, which would be awesome for the hundreds of miles I drive on dirt roads in the oilfield. I believe there is an availability for such maps but it seems a null point when I can use my phone to pull up google earth.

Upgrade From Our Previous Garmin

We owned a Garmin Nuvi for years and got a lot of mileage out of it, but it was getting tired so we decided to upgrade to the DriveSmart 51 LMT-S. Immediately we loved the larger, brighter, clearer screen and the ease of use is still as good as it's always been. The only downside is the traffic data no longer comes from the built in proprietary wired connection, but instead through a blue tooth connection with your phone. So, while it's minimal, the traffic information will be using your phone's data.
