Voice command is a huge plus; no more fumbling with the gps when driving - just say the name of the place or address and it will search it for you.

I am 71 years old and wanted this one because the screen was so clear, bright and easier to see because of the 6.95 screen size. I took it out for a trial run on a route that I knew very well, and it wanted me to go another way that I also knew but was out of the way. I brushed this off and went the way I wanted to go but, it continued to want me to turn around . The next day I took it on a trip to Kentucky on a route I have been traveling for many years and again it wanted to take me in a totally different way. I continued to take the route I have traveled for years which were main roads ( US 23 south). on my return home going North on US South the Garmin smart drive 61 wanted me to take a side road which I took. This road was a two lane country road and after driving3 to 4 miles on this road it ended up being closed of and blocked. I turned around and went back and finished my trip home using Route 23 North. I also had problems with the screen flickering on and off and the only way I could get it to stop was to turn it off and back on, this stopped the screen from flickering on and off. This was the second smart drive I tried out, the first one just locked up. With all the problems I have had with both I was afraid to trust this model. Both were returned. I will wait to see if Garmin comes up with a model that want take me way out in no mans land and get me lost.

It gets me where I need to go and avoid the places that are trouble.

I bought it in the U.S. After getting it charged up and trying to get used to it I discovered Costa Rica was not in the program. I had to spend an additional $99.00 for the South American map. :( With the additional map loaded I was able to navigate in Costa Rica with no problem. The unit has lots of built in locations that can be found in the different categories. You can save way points as favorites and I found it to be very accurate. I never lost the satellite signal which was one of the main points of the purchase. Cell phones are good but they seem to loose satellite signals if it is very overcast or you loos cell service. That did NOT happen with the Garmin.

I bought this Garmin because the software on my Kenwood did not offer free upgrades. It's easier to use, and I like that it now does not interfere with my radio volume.

This is an awesome unit with the Bluetooth capabilities to answer the phone and it also does verbal directions and requests. I will be updating my older ones as soon as I can!
