Customers find value in the DriveSmart 61 LMT-S's large screen size, ease of use, and accurate GPS navigation, frequently praising its voice command functionality and free lifetime map updates. However, some users express concerns regarding the device's limited battery life and the effectiveness of its traffic features. The navigation system, while generally well-received, has received some criticism for occasionally suggesting less-than-optimal routes. Overall, the positive feedback on key features outweighs the negative comments.

I've been a long time Tom Tom fan but after checking out the features of this Garmin, I figured I'd give it a whirl. The initial touch and feel gave me an impression of quality, the metal enclosure should hold up better than the plastic cases of the older models of GPSs I've had before. Very pleased with the screen sharpness and size, makes those quick update glances easier to lock onto. I am most impressed with the voice command feature, being able to speak and not have to reach out and touch the GPS to make changes is probably the greatest safety feature that could've been added.
Note: voice recognition on the basic command menus has worked fine, just minor issues with using voice to enter an address or searching for locations, saved places and recent places all work fine with voice input.
While I connected the Garmin to my phone and set up the WiFi, those features I do not use regularly. But I will say that the Garmin plugged right in to my MacBook Pro and the updates were seamless, it was really easy to add more vehicles and voices too.

I had a Garmin StreetPilot 2720 for 10 years and was so happy with it I wanted something as user friendly with all the same perks and I had no idea how far above this item was going to be! It is VERY user friendly and has more features than the StreetPilot (the lane assist is a great feature and I love the larger screen!). Earlier reviews mentioned being bothered by notices of schools, railroads, etc. but those notices are quick and not disrupting to the current route. The only negative I could comment on is that the screen is very reflective at certain times/angle of the sun. Not a problem most of the time, but when the sun hits it just right it is more of a mirror than a GPS. However, I would still buy this item again and recommend it to my friends. Very happy with purchase.

I love the big 7" screen. My first voice command GPS. Very easy to use. Recognizes my voice when the car is fairly quite. It helps to keep the windows closed when giving voice commands. Links to satellites very quickly. Overall very pleased. Big advantage is using wi-fi to update the software and maps directly through unit, rather than having to connect to computer to download updates. Big drawback is lack of AC adapter; must be purchased separately. I like to use an AC adapter while practicing using the GPS in my house.

I had a different Garmin for a number of years but it stopped working. I absolutely loved that Garmin--very reliable and easy to use. The new Garmin was a bit more difficult to learn how to use but I am getting used to it (with my son's help). I do like the larger screen however I am concerned about it possibly breaking if falls. The glass doesn't seem as well protected as my last Garmin. Also it can only be charged in your vehicle not in a wall outlet.

The Garmin DriveSmart 61 NA LMT-S is the best GPS Unit I have ever owned. It does so much for me and I travel everyday for work. It reads my texts to me. It allows me to talk on the phone hands free. It has Lifetime Maps and Lifetime Traffic. With the Garmin Smart Phone Link App on my phone I get up to date weather. I can use it to make hands free phone calls. Anyone looking for a GPS unit should buy this one. You will, like me, be so glad you did. This unit tells me about speed limit changes, railroad crossings, and animal crossings. This is a great Garmin.

The Garmin GPS works everywhere and doesn't require having a cell tower being in range to get a map or other local information. Having said that, the map or local information is not 100% up to date at times. I find the display easier to follow than the phone maps and images of lane changes very useful. Also the Garmin links to the phone giving traffic information and alternate routes like the cell phone apps. The Garmin goes beyond with some warnings that the cell phone doesn't give such as bad curbs ahead or changes in speed limit being ahead. The voice prompts are fairly detailed so it isn't necessary to always view the display. The wifi feature is very convenient and easy to use. The maps can be updated directly without using a computer if wifi access is available. The voice commands for the Garmin is less flexible and not as intuitive as the cell phone, however, overall I find I prefer using the Garmin over a cell phone alone.

Phone link for traffic updates?

This is a great GPS, don't get me wrong, but this GPS does get traffic updates ONLY if it's linked to your phone with an app. Not a big fan of that due to battery life and data usage. (AT&T). I had to buy the HD Radio reciever for live trafffic updates ($60) Searching is kind of weird because if I'm in North Port and the GPS knows I'm in North Port I still have to put in the full address in order to find the place otherwise it can't find it. It does it sometimes but more often then not. I am a Florida local truck driver and I use it 4 to 5 times a day. Love the voice commands, Bluetooth and WiFi connection. (No more connecting to your computer to get updates.)

I have not found a location that the Garmin will not get me too and I like the easy to input location guide. I use the speed indicator to set the speedometers on hot rods and custom gauges. I find it accurate and easy to use. The size gives me a screen that is easy to read and see and it gives me the information I need to get where I need to go quickly and safely.

My cell phone dropped me big time when I was going on a business trip which I frequently do: the server was not able to support the app which totally freaked me out as I have to be at the appointment at the right time. I have an older Garmin and the screen is smaller so I decided to treat myself. It does exactly what it promises to do and is totally reliable. I have programmed all my addresses and it is so easy to use. The only downer is that it may pick up radio voices and think it is a command but you just call out go back and it does. I have not used all the functions - I have not the time but I love the large easy to read display and the voice warnings are clear. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get to where they need to go. It has automatic upload updates to the maps via wireless link to internet and bluetooth link to cellphone which works as a handsfree system & that is a great safety feature.

This navigation has a very nice screen. It is almost 7 inches diagonally. The quality is great not just on the screen but the build quality and the charger. So far I have only went on one trip with this navigation to North Carolina and it was great. It also showed what lane you should stay in for an exit. This is a great upgrade from my other Garmin navigation that I got 8-9 years ago maybe even 10 years ago. Overall a great navigation I recommend this garmin - drivesmart 61.
