Customers recognize the eTrex 10 GPS as a great value for its price point. It offers all the essential features of a GPS device at an affordable cost. While some users may find the lack of a touchscreen or heading indicator until in motion as drawbacks, many are willing to overlook these minor inconveniences given the device's budget-friendly price.

I got this model since it was newer than the eTrex Venture HC I already had. This model has a monochrome display whereas the Venture has a color display. I did not think I would have missed the color as much as I did. The monochrome is perfectly functional but I found I just liked having the color. One great advantage of this unit is its ability to receive GLONASS signals. Satellite lock was fast once it was "warmed up", i.e. had a recent fix. Reported accuracy was about the same as the Venture which does not receive GLONASS signals. This surprised me a little.
Overall this should be a great little GPS for the beginner. I did not use the geocaching feature or the ability to add your own map data. Other reviews and specs indicate the eTrex 10 should be far superior to the Venture in these regards.

I purchased this because I wanted something simple to use. It truly is simple to use, provides excellent navigation without more complicated user functions and the operator buttons are ergonomic for my bearpaw hands. It will take some practice to use and become proficient with before you venture into the wilds. Overall it is a good device and will provide the same navigation as other more expensive and complicated devices.

We have only used our GPS a few times but it was easy to follow the directions. We used the way point feature and were able to follow it back to our vehicle.

It took me several days and contacting Garmin to figure out how to download caches to this GPS. Once we got it figured out, it works nicely.

Great basic GPS for hunting and fishing. I love that this device is so rugged and water resistant. I use it for finding my hunting tree stands and getting back to remote trout fishing locations. I've used other models that have full mapping capability and found them to be too cumbersome for quickly finding my way out of the woods in the dark. This device is also great for geo-caching with the family.

Just needed a basic GPS to follow tracks, and mark occasional Waypoints. The classic "eTrex Yellah" does all that well, and at a decent price.

GPS handheld unit allows me the portability to find those ice fishing coordinates...a bit 'hard' to run the boat in the Wisconsin winter!

Bought this unit to take on hikes in national and state park trails. Some trails aren't well maintained and a gps unit can help keep us on the trail. The unit is good, but the memory is VERY limited (and memory can't be expanded). I have to really search hard for maps small enough to fit on the unit. A lot of times, I find maps for the park I'm going to visit but the map is too large for the small amount of memory on the gps unit. It's worth it to pay a little extra and upgrade to a unit with a larger memory. Aside from the memory, the unit is great is every other way. Battery life is super good, size is perfect, screen can be view easily in daylight and at night. Aside from the very limited memory size, the unit is a great beginner's unit.

simple not a bunch of useless stuff. mark your parking spots or places where trees stands or your trail cameras are. no need for maps hit where to and go to compass page and it will guide you to the location you selected

We use these at work for recording our movements. They are the cheapest handheld unit that Garmin makes. They are okay . . . but the small grayscale screen is not the easiest to read. For most people that is not an issue, unless you are of the age where you need reading glasses--then it is too small. Watch the toggle switch, as it will record waypoints without your knowledge as it jostles around in your pocket.

We are still learning how to use it and all of the features that this GPS has, but we have started geocaching and it is a lot of fun for all of us. We can't wait until the weather gets nicer so we can get out and use it more. Fairly easy to use - not so easy to locate geocahes, but we have are getting a lot of exercise trying.
