I have had several different, low-end Garmin models and something always went wrong with it. I finally took the plunge and spent some money for this puppy right here. Man, it is definitely worth every cent I paid for it. It is amazing. It just does everything better than the low-end models. If you truly want to keep track of everything you do all day and want the customizable faces and so you can see what is important to you, then this is the watch for you. If you lift weights, this thing keeps track of your reps and your sets and will allow you to adjust your weight and reps if it's a little off. They do have auto sets but it's in Beta and it's not very good because it doesn't account for rests during sets so you can't squeeze a few more reps in. Once you stop or pause, it will end your set. Really sucks. I wish I could give it 5 stars, but for some reason all of my Garmins have one issue in common... BLUETOOTH CONNECTIVITY ISSUES! This drives me crazy. They need to just switch to Bluetooth 5.0 already. Sometimes my watch will be disconnected and I had no idea or I will go to sync my watch through the app and I will see that my watch is disconnected. Can be very frustrating. Thank goodness it's very easy to reconnect. Double edge sword.

More than a watch it's a life changer

Paying this kind of money for a watch is totally insane......with that said it's been the best watch I have owned, and I have had some good ones. Casio pathfinder and a Suunto just too name a few. First I did major research on this and other high end ABC watches. I looked at all kinds and decided that the garmin was the one. It does more stuff than my phone from 10 years ago. It has maps on to track (cant zoom in on screen is my only gripe about this watch) but it has breadcrumbs and will use it's own GPS. When you download the app your going to find so many cool things, Your heart rate, your o2 level, your stress level, your sleep patterns....yes if you wear it at night it keeps track of your sleeping habits. You can add different activities to the watch, if you walk just hit that activity and start it, it will keep track of distance and much much more. It even maps it on the app. If you Mountain bike it has that, hiking and more. If you like music you download an app and listen from the watch via bluetooth. You can change the face of the watch...you can send text messages back from the watch. I found a cool archery app that keeps track of your groupings. This is my first smartwatch and will never go back. If you like smartwatches and enjoy the outdoors this rugged watch will do the trick.

I will say I have been skeptical of spending this amount of money on a watch, and even after only having it for 5 days, can say it was worth it. This is my first Garmin watch, so believe me I was hesitant to pull the trigger on that amount of for a watch, but glad i did. With that being said - purchased on June 1, 2019 & now June 5th - still at %51 battery life. I have downloaded multiple faces, updated a bunch of fields, added widgets and downloaded over 200 + songs and I've worn it consistently and used it for music and tracking. Being the Fenix 5X Plus, was a little worried about the size, but for 6'2" 215lb guy, not a bad fit, it certainly doesn't feel heavy either. In the past I was so used to the touch screen, so that's a bit of a challenge getting used to, but totally worth the challenge. Being able to get alerts and read certain amounts, connect headphones and not kill your battery all while taking information in and still having battery life is worth it. Kind of funny how we spend money on a watch to last a week or two, when a normal watch with technology can last years - however in this day technology reigns and we use it to our advantage. I would highly recommend this watch for those who are on the fence, as I was and super glad I did go with it. If you're budgeting, I would not recommend splurging money you don't have, but if you can afford it - not the payments - then I would say go for it. With the return policy, that also helps if you have buyers remorse, but I don't see that in my future. Solid build Garmin.

Playing Music Was Inconsistent at Best

I only had my Fenix 5X Plus for ten days before returning it. I've owned three other Garmin Forerunners starting with the 301 so I do like their products. My main reason for getting this watch was so I could listen to music without having to take my phone on runs. Watch set up and adding songs was relatively straight forward. However, I found I had to re-pair my Jabra Elite Active 65t earbuds every time I wanted to use the watch. Half the time, after trying for 15-20 minutes with no success, I gave up. Even when paired, songs would cut out when I wore the watch on my left wrist. Okay, I could get used to wearing it on my right wrist and put up with the occasional empty air when the watch went behind my back. Then one day the watch did not pair with my Garmin HRM-Run heart rate monitor, which it had previously been doing without problem. My old 920XT paired with it flawlessly so that was the last straw, I returned the Fenix 5X Plus. Garmin does have a list of "wireless" (not true wireless) earbuds on their website that they say work with the Fenix 5X Plus, but I wasn't prepared to spend even more money on any of those. I hope Garmin will figure out how to get their watch to work with arguably the best and one of the top rated true wireless earbuds on the market. I'm not sure what the issue was with the heartrate monitor, but if you buy this watch with the hopes of listening to music, check out Gramin's recommmended earbuds - hopefully they'll provide better performance than I experienced.

Does not work for Dark skinned people

Overall, well made watch, probably the best fitness tracker I have ever worn when its actively tracking. For some reason it never worked for me. I kept the watch for a whole month and then I read that it's a software glitch and the auto function for turning on the heart rate sensor does not work as intended for darker skin tones. It turns off when I am wearing the watch on my wrist almost as though it thinks it's not being worn and there is no way to turn it back on. However, when actively tracking like jogging outside all of its features works great and it's amazing. Sadly, I advise dark skinned folk to test first to see if it will work before leaving the store, or until garmin addresses the issue. When I have someone else with lighter skin tone wear it, it's just fine and when I wear it on the underside of my wrist which is a lighter brown, it works ok but who does that. I tried a reset, a reboot, a replacement unit, same result. Everything else about the watch worked great and I wish Garmin would allow a manual override to turn on the heartrate sensor and the Oxygen sensor since those two things control most if not all of the metrics being tracked. In any case, big kudos to Best Buy staff for helping me find a Fitbit. I would still buy it if there is a way to get it to work as intended as I liked the battery life a lot.

I use this watch for Mountain Biking. I have yet to learn all of the features for using the maps and connection to Strava, but so far it gives me data I want to see. VO2 is one thing I am interested in, but I do not have a power meter for my bike yet, so I may have to do some running activities to see what my VO2 is. I am having fun with all the information and tracking my progress. For me it is motivating because I want to improve my fitness level and the watch lets me see when I should be resting and when I should be going harder. It's a fun toy and for a data geek like me, it perfect. It does not make me workout, but knowing its on my wrist while I'm riding or whatever makes me want to push harder to increase those numbers. It is a motivator for me. I really wanted the 5x Plus for the PulseOx. After using it, I am a little underwhelmed, but I was hoping for too much. Really it works fine, I understand its purpose. I read many things an people are less than impressed with the accuracy. I know my O2 levels are usually 99% or 100% as checked with a high quality PulseOx meter and the watch reports low. The watch generally reads a little low but most times shows a number I would agree with. Running the PulseOx all the time I have to assume the dips are due to loose fit and location of the test being done. Now, its supposed to be for sleep tracking and acclimation of elevation. The acclimation I think it would be sufficient because you can see variation from normal reading (even if low) to you current reading. I do breath holds for freediving, I understand that a PulseOx meter of any kind will not give you real-time O2 levels as oxygen in the blood and in the tissue do not function like a gas tank...

I use this watch primarily for lap swimming in conjunction with the Garmin HRM-Swim heart rate monitor. The wrist based monitor works great out of the water, but cannot monitor your heart rate while swimming. The watch is perfect for the triathlete, and the pulse oximetry capability is ideal for those training at altitude. It is well built, and the sapphire crystal protects it against scratches from daily use. The wifi, Bluetooth and gps functions work well and add to its versatility. For those who want to listen to music or audiobooks while working out (NOT while swimming as Bluetooth can't transmit very far in water) and do not want to carry their phone with them, the ability to store and play music on the watch is an added plus. As per the description (and not my experience, so far), it can also be used to track various other activities, such as skiing, rowing, etc.

Coming from a Samsung S3 Frontier, I truly appreciate the no nonsense professional grade sensors packed into the Fenix 5X Plus. It actually lasts a full 20 days; compared to charging a watch every 2 days...this is like a miracle. As far the the sensors go, they are scary accurate. I love that I can be tracked, in real time, independent of a cell phone connection. Garmin hit a grand slam with this one. I am now a Garmin watch customer for life, there just isn't anything out there that's on the same level.

The excellent battery life alone is a huge plus, no pun intended. You can be camping for a week and still not charge it. Never have to worry about getting lost or worry about having your phone so you can use the maps feature. It works without it. Looks great, very durable. The quick fit bands are awesome, however a little too expensive at $50 a piece, but so is apples. Garmin pay is sweet, but my band doesn’t support it but overall awesome watch i wear it everyday.

His Words: I was apprehensive at first of the high price tag but when you read the list of features I went for it. From the moment I put it on I knew it was worth the extra money. The battery lasts for over two weeks and I love that because on my previous cheaper models I was charging them nightly. The watch has many more features that I have not seen on other models like tracking indoor biking, rowing, running, elliptical and the navigation is spot on. With having the ability to change the layout of the watch face you can customize to suit your needs. I would highly recommend this watch to anyone who is active and wants to track their fitness results.

I’ve been reluctant to buy a watch that needs to be charged. My last watch had its own solar power recharge system but was a pretty standard watch. This one has some really cool technology and is easy to navigate and understand. Battery life is exceptional. Was traveling out of town for a week, connected to my iPhone BT and getting call/email/text notifications and on day 8 battery was at 70%! Haven’t tested energy draw using the map feature yet but “wow!” Don’t have to worry about plugging in every night was a big deal to me. I also really like the rugged look of the watch. I’m not a fan of most of the other tech wearables on the market.

As a regular fan of Suunto watches for ultra trail running, I was between this and the Suunto 9. I am super happy I went with the Fenix 5x plus. The fitness features are awesome, and it's a great smart watch as an added bonus. The acclimatization feature is a game changer and the ability to load music is also a plus. Battery lasted me 8 days through 10 workouts (3 with GPS) on first charge out of the box. This is pretty remarkable in my view when compared with basic fitness trackers. Haven't really found anything I don't like after 2 weeks of use. I also have to add that I really like the Garmin app better than the Suunto app (movescount) for viewing data.

I've always wanted a Fenix watch and this one had what it took to get me to take the plunge. Coming from a galaxy watch, first and foremost I have noticed the excellent battery life. Almost 2 weeks with regular use and 4 or 5 45 minute GPS using activities a week. It is a great blend of smart watch and fitness/GPS watch in one device. One thing to note is it is definitely closer to a digital watch face that is slightly smart watch face capable than a true smart watch face. Also the sapphire crystal makes it a little less bright than similar models with glass. Completely happy with fit, function and build quality.

I've had my Garmin Fenix 5X Plus for 4 months now and cannot be more happier with it. This watch does it all. As a waterproof, multisport watch, it really does it all. I've used this watch for triathlons, marathons, hiking, golfing, walking, and more. I purchased the 5X Plus for the extra battery life and have not regretted it. I only charge my watch about every week or so, but can actually go longer than that. My old garmin multisport watch had to sync/update with Garmin Connect via USB cable with my laptop, but not this watch. The bluetooth feature automatically syncs all of my activities and they are immediately available to view on my smart phone via Garmin Connect. I love this watch.

This watch is exceptional for those people that are fitness oriented but don't want to compromise the convenience of utilizing a smart device. Great battery life, above average GPS tracking abilities, built-in pulse oximeter, accurate HR monitoring and many other useful features. The only compromise I found with this watch is in the strength training settings. The automatic exercise detector is somewhat inaccurate and requires constant user correction when editing the exercise summary of what strength training activities were completed during your session.

So far this watch has been pretty great, it's able to track all sorts of stuff like HR, steps, sleep, and floors climbed. Although most fitness trackers can also track those basics I like that this watch shows more detail when tracking exercises, runs, and bike rides than my old Fitbit Blaze. The O2 sensor doesn't seem to work that great though because whenever I try to view that data on the app, it crashes. I've used the built in Garmin Pay and music and so far it's worked without any issues. The built in GPS is also very convenient so that I can go on runs/bike rides without having to take my phone.

Boyfriends Fitbit watch wasnt working so we went in to exchange it. We where told Fitbit didnt have the protection plan through bestbuy anymore and his fit bit was almost $300. This would of been his 3rd exchange through the protection plan. So we decided to try this watch out. The moment he saw it on display he wanted it. Once he got it he fell in love with it. Battery life is great. Size is big but thatz okay for him. And it's all black. Only thing he misses is the touch screen and being about to reply from the watch

I had the watch for a couple of weeks and I am impressed by its functionality and aesthetics. I love the map function and I had the reason to leave my handheld gps at home. Aside from this the barometric function helped in forecasting a change in weather conditions and and even notifies me if the weather gets into a nasty turn. I do a lot of hiking and so far I found my best buddy. Aside from this, the battery is amazing as it held on till charging

Upgraded to this watch from an Apple Watch Series 4, and I have zero regrets. The battery life is outstanding - I run with GPS tracking enabled for at least 45 minutes per day, and even with the always on display, I only charge it about once every two weeks. I love all of the pre-loaded maps, altimeter and the heart rate monitor as well. The button navigation takes a little getting used to, but it is fairly intuitive.

Was looking for a smart/ fitness watch for years. Went with the Garmin for its gps capabilities and battery life. Sometimes I don’t charge it for up to a week. If you’re looking for a more smart phone oriented watch I’d go with something else. The music capability is frustrating at best and you receive notifications but at a very basic level. If you are active, work out, ride, run, etc. . . This is the watch to have.
