After finding out that the forerunner 235 only had music controls and not full music features, I had to bite the $150 bullet and purchase the 245 music. Best upgrade ever. Loading my amazon music was literally effortless because it automatically did it for me. The garmin connect is wonderful. I can view my entire day, sleep to steps, energy levels to stress and much more. The workout details are the best. I can view all my running stats and see them on the map. The watch is lightweight and good looking. It is comfortable on my wrist and I sleep with my watch on for the first time ever. It pairs with satellites almost immediately and no waiting. It took a few days to get used to the buttons and how to access the stuff I need, but now it is second nature. The music feature is great, using my amazon prime music that downloads my workout playlists and pairs right away with my wireless headphones. The best watch I have owned so far. If it can last as long as my previous Tom Tom, that would be a bonus.

    Battery, Bulky

I've been on a journey for the right fitness/smartwatch for quite sometime. I wanted a watch that i could run with, track my strength training, give me notifications, be comfortable, and listen to music. My first stop was wearOS. It supposedly did many things but in practice it didn't actually work. I spent hours trying to get music on my watch and once i did it crashed during workouts. The battery was also abysmal. Apple watch was not an option, no iphone. Samsung was nice but battery issues and really bulky. On to Garmin. I had a vivoactive music before. I liked it. It just gave me a more feminine feeling. I then decided I'll look into a fenix 5 plus. Crazy expensive and heavy. I was willing to deal with that until i came across this watch. It was feature rich, light, great look, had music, great battery life, and it works well! Compared to the fenix (of what options I'll actually be using) i only missed out on Garmin Pay. That didn't really matter because my bank didn't use it anyway. In practice: So far I've done a run, went swimming, and I've just been generally more active for the past week with this watch. Im completely happy with it. The music feature paired to spotify, paired to my beats 3s, and not one time did it lose connection. The amount of data you get from a run thru garmin connect is awesome. It tracked how far i swam in the pool, and it kept up with my steps with useful data at the end of the day. Body Battery is a new interesting feature not included with the way more expensive fenix. It is pretty accurate. I felt really drained one day and my body battery said i was at 13%. Sounds about right to me. The next day i woke up feeling tired and it said i was at 60% even in the morning. It knew i didn't fully recover. Today im feeling fully refreshed and the battery says im at 99%. I feel like i can actually use this feature. Sleep tracking: I find myself keeping up with this feature more than i thought i would. The form factor of the watch is comfortable enough to sleep in. Its not as comfortable as the vivoactive music, but close enough. If the VA3 has 94 comfort level I'd say this one is about 85. Fenix would probably be 50 for me. Back to sleep tracking. It's been pretty accurate with how long i sleep and i like seeing all the analytics. Highly recommended watch.

I purchased the Garmin Forerunner 245 Music specifically because I want to listen to music while I run. The watch is lauded for it's accuracy, which I can agree with, and its battery life, which is great. But when I tried to pair my top-rated sports headphones Jabra Elite Active 65t and track my run, it wouldn't work! BUYER BEWARE! If you purchase this model (why else would you buy the 'Music' variant), it only works with select headphones. So make sure to check Garmin's site before you purchase a pair of headphones or purchase this watch if you already have a pair of headphones.

This is my first sports watch and I almost returned it due to the frustrating interface and poor documentation. But I persisted and soon got comfortable with it. And now, I LOVE it! I am a career IT techie programming in 8 languages, and use iPad and iPhones- this should have been easier!

This is my first dedicated running watch. I previously wore my wife's older FitBit. This watch is better in almost everyway. When I run or work around the house, I like wear headphones. This watch works great versus carrying a phone on you. The features I surprisingly use the most is body battery and stress measurements, which have been helpful for whole health. I always wear a watch, but I have been wearing this watch almost exclusively to capture my data since I purchased it. The Garmin data links up easy with other fitness apps, and the Garmin apps have been good too. Charging time is relatively quick. It's easy to change the watchface display to something more personalized. Size of watchface is 42mm, which makes it's attractive on a male wrist and big but not giant on a female wrist. The watch band also hasn't gotten all nasty smelling or anything like that, which always happens with my other watches, other than metal band watches. This review would be 5 stars if the battery runtime was longer when using GPS and/or music features. If you don't use these features, your runtime is five to seven days. Unfortunately, these are features you are likely paying for with a running watch. With both GPS and music running, it's probably topping out at a runtime of 6 hours. It takes a little bit to learn to navigate menus, but it's managable. I also wore this watch in saltwater, which I don't recommend as it made the watch buttons stick. This is a great running and fitness watch. I wear it way more than I initially expected. Helps my running and overall management of my health. If you listen to music when you run and don't enjoy carrying a phone, give this watch a try.

They nailed this watch at this price point. Has every feature you need unless you are a professional triathlete. You can liberate yourself from your phone during workouts with this watch. The emergency call for help feature does not work without the paired phone near however. Only other minor downsides are it is a bit cumbersome to load music and change music volume easily while running. The SpO2 is not really that useful as it runs about 5% low for me & there is no low SpO2 alarm (was thinking this may be a good Covid related feature). Buttons are so much better than touch screen and you can always see the screen in all conditions. The Garmin coaching Feature and advanced metrics are spectacular- especially the VDOT score. Also really nice group features to help you and your friends stay motivated.

    Battery, Buttons, Compatibility

I really wanted to like this watch. I use it for long distance running, and it works great for activity tracking, just like my prior forerunner watches. But the music functions are not ready for primetime. The worst problem is that the watch only works with a handful of types of headphones. Don't just assume your favorite headphones will work. Garmin even has a page on its site listing the compatible 'phones -- and it's a tiny list. Lots of complaints about this on the internet. I kept wondering why different headphones would not pair at all, or would pair but not offer full functionality (volume buttons not working, pause button not working, etc.) I went through three different kinds before even finding that page, so do your homework before buying! Ridiculous that Garmin would release a watch with such poor bluetooth. I'm still going through the list of approved headphones looking for one that works and that I also like. Very frustrating so far. Another problem with the music is the Amazon music app. It's also buggy and not ready for primetime. Not sure if it's Amazon or Garmin at fault here, but it was useless for me. Fortunately, the Spotify app works well, so if you use that platform you should be OK. Also, the battery life isn't great. After a 4 hour run playing music and tracking, the brand new watch is nearly drained. It's enough for now, but if the battery degrades over time, it will become a problem. Finally, there's a bad design choice which might become an issue over time. The charging port is on the back face of the watch, so it rests against my skin. It gets gunked up with sunscreen and sweat every time I use it. I clean it out every time and so far haven't had a problem, but I worry it will eventually corrode. Prior forerunners had a better positioned port, so this wasn't a concern.

I've been using my Nike Apple Watch for running for several years now but I needed a watch that's more dedicated to running. The 245M is the perfect fit for my running needs! I no longer need to carry my iPhone with me anymore because I can store my Spotify playlists on the watch itself. The watch is accurate too with all my running stats. Pros: Stored music on your wrist, Lightweight, Accurate GPS, Physical buttons Cons: Face could be bigger, Plastic body

Music is great. Easy to use with Amazon music (even the prime free version). Battery life is great. Sensors and app features on the 245 music are awesome. My only real colaint is that you have to use the Garmin IQ for widgets, and then the Connect App for workout, bio, etc. I just wish it was all wrapped into one app solution, and not 2. That is my only small complaint, but that is more about the Garmin eco system and not the watch itself.

First of all I love that this watch is NOT touch screen. The buttons on the sides are all you use and they are enough. It shows me basically everything I want to know without all the extra stuff like the Apple Watch. It has great features, tracks sleep, female cycle, heart rate ect. All customizable and you can take things on and off. This was my first smart watch and I’m in love! Battery last almost a week and less if I play music on it while I workout. Which is a great feature my Spotify playlist easily downloaded on it. I have the new 75t Jabra headphones and the connection is great. Really can’t complain about anything with the watch! Only thing maybe is the price.. tad steep but it’s worth for the use I give it!

At first I didn’t like the watch because it wasn’t touchscreen. As I got familiar with it. It has an array of features. I’m in the beginning stages of running so it’s great for what I was liking for. The app works great with it. I love the fact I can download music direct and leave my phone at home. The battery doesn’t last as long if using gps for running. But you can go almost a week for charging if not heavy use. For the price point and other watches I looked at I would definitely recommend.

    Accuracy, For running

I have wanted this watch since it came out, stalking the Best Buy website for availability. I reached out to them via Twitter to inquire when it would go on sale and they got back to me quickly, and not long before the link for purchase went live. It was worth the wait. I get excellent running data and perfect GPS tracking without needing to carry my phone around. I live in a wooded area and the accuracy has been astounding. Having music on my watch is an added incentive that I use regularly. This is the best purchase I’ve made in years.
