THIS is a nice looking product with a reputation as an excellent device for running and monitoring one's activity. I bought it originally for a friend but had to return it because my friend purchased one in a different geographical region after I purchased this one.

The Garmin Forerunner 35 is a good GPS watch, vary plain looking but very functional. The only problem I have with the watch is every few days it drops the link between my phone and the watch and will not sync, I have to reload like it's a new watch when I contacted Garmin the tech said it must be my phone so I linked it with my wife's phone which is a different series and it did the same thing so not the phone, Garmin still says it's not their watch or program.

I love my new forerunner. Being able to swim with it is great. It is sleek and it looks like an Apple Watch. The buttons instead of touchscreen are also great so it doesn't accidentally scroll to another screen. Only downfall is the connectivity to Bluetooth for notifications seems to have difficulty at times.

This GPS watch is easy to use, with 4 buttons to control all operations. The two tone display is easy to read even in bright sunlight. The band is secure and comfortable. The basic functions (steps, distance, heart rate, calories, and GPS tracking) work very well. Many activities are supported, but I have only used, walking (hiking), running and bicycling, which work very well. It was very accurate at tracking my route when hiking, but this requires connection to a computer or smart phone. The GPS can take a minute or two to lock in the satellites at times. The battery lasts a week or so, less when GPS is activated, but charges by USB very quickly. I am happy with my purchase.

I bought the Garmin Forerunner 35 on the recommendation of an experienced trainer and athlete. He was right: the watch does everything it was supposed to do, and it does it well. My main concern was how often I would need to charge the watch. So far the charge has been lasting about 2.5 days. The Forenner 35 is easy to use, and while it doesn't have the "look" of an Apple watch, it doesn't have the price nor complexity of the Apple either. Now my new concern: I don't know if I am allergic to the rubber bracelet or not, but I developed a severe rash on the underside of my wrist. I took off the watch over the week-end and the rash seems to be healing. I am wearing the bracelet loose. Not sure if that will affect the heart rate reader.

Great watch for all activity tracking

The reason why I purchased this watch is because it monitored all of my exercises like jogging, cycling, and weightlifting, plus it had a built in heart rate monitor. This in turn gave me a very accurate count in how much calories I was burring per activity. Jogging: The heart rate monitor appears to be very accurate when I was out doing my 4 miles lap. It needs to be worn slightly tight above the wrist bone to ensure accuracy if your doing a vigorous exercise where there will be a lot of sweating. The HPM range difference was very noticeable when I was out of shape and then now. It is definitely not just throwing out random numbers. These live HPM update are very useful since it takes out the guessing game for you to maintain you target rate zone. Which is important to burn the most calories. Other features of the watch: You can link it to your phone or computer via Bluetooth, and your information will automatically update with the Garmin Connect app. It is a smartwatch so if your phone is in range, emails, text, and phone calls will pop up on the watch. It also has GPS, so all of your activities will be tracked and saved without having to bring your phone along. Another feature is all of your daily steps are tracked and easily monitored by scrolling through the watch. This watch and the Garmin Vivoactiv are very similar in features, except the later having a color touch screen. I like the forerunner 35 better because I think it is a nicer looking everyday watch and has a better value in my opinion.

I bought this after receiving a recommendation to go with Garmin after the band for my Fitbit Surge broke. The build seems to be good. The band seems to be a bit less rigid that the Fitbit Surge, but I think that may make the Garmin a bit more durable in the long run. There is no touchscreen. Menus have to be scrolled thru by using hard buttons on the sides of the watch face. Not really a deal breaker though. The watch will vibrate with notifications and alerts for apps, and you can choose which apps have that permission. There is a backlight for checking the watch time or other info at night/in the dark, but again, that has to be manually chosen. I actually prefer this to the Surge, which would constantly have the backlight turn on if I moved my arm too quickly or whatever. The charging cable is a bit strange and proprietary, and I feel that it could be longer. However, the Fitbit charging cable was also proprietary in some ways. The Garmin app is decent, but in some ways I liked the Fitbit app's design a little better. The watch works well for what it does, and more importantly for what I need. I can go to the gym to do my workout and feel that it can survive most workouts. I still haven't figured some of the other features it supposedly has, such as rep counting and VO2 monitoring. It works well, but it might still be a bit overpriced. Still, I would recommend it, especially if you can get it on sale or something.
