Great real-time tracker with confusing app

What I like about this tracker is the ability to check progress in real time. It keeps track of things like steps, mileage, heart rate, calories burned (not to mention time and date). I did have an issue at one point where the steps/mileage "page" on the watch face suddenly was gone. This being the prime use in my case for having it, I was frustrated. I worked through the app, which is a bit confusing at first, and found nothing to change this. Went to the on-line owners manual, which was helpful on several fronts, and ultimately had to reset the watch back to factory defaults. Once done, the steps/mileage page was back and has been there since. Like most of these, it relies on arm-swing to measure steps and mileage. This is fine unless the arm is otherwise occupied (pushing a lawn-mower, or pushing a wheelchair around Spain as I did) the steps and mileage don't get counted. Battery life is impressive, I've gone seven days without charging, and the handy battery icon on the main page lets you know how charged the battery is. The display is big and easy to see, the time can be displayed either digitally or analog. The alarm works well, and when synced with your smartphone vibrates to indicate an incoming call with caller ID displayed - a nice feature when in a noisy environment where you may not hear your phone. It syncs periodically with your phone or you can manually sync. There are other features, of course, for runners measuring time, distance etc. You can share all your stats on social media through the app if you are into that. Overall I'm pleased with this tracker, though there is a bit of a learning curve with the app.

I bought this after receiving a recommendation to go with Garmin after the band for my Fitbit Surge broke. The build seems to be good. The band seems to be a bit less rigid that the Fitbit Surge, but I think that may make the Garmin a bit more durable in the long run. There is no touchscreen. Menus have to be scrolled thru by using hard buttons on the sides of the watch face. Not really a deal breaker though. The watch will vibrate with notifications and alerts for apps, and you can choose which apps have that permission. There is a backlight for checking the watch time or other info at night/in the dark, but again, that has to be manually chosen. I actually prefer this to the Surge, which would constantly have the backlight turn on if I moved my arm too quickly or whatever. The charging cable is a bit strange and proprietary, and I feel that it could be longer. However, the Fitbit charging cable was also proprietary in some ways. The Garmin app is decent, but in some ways I liked the Fitbit app's design a little better. The watch works well for what it does, and more importantly for what I need. I can go to the gym to do my workout and feel that it can survive most workouts. I still haven't figured some of the other features it supposedly has, such as rep counting and VO2 monitoring. It works well, but it might still be a bit overpriced. Still, i would recommend it, especially if you can get it on sale or something.

Overall a very good item. I’ve owned three other fitness tracking devices and this one is the best by far. Has great battery life, fits well, very comfortable, not too big, as some fitness devices are more like wearing bricks. GPS works great, heart-rate monitor is accurate, and simple to use. I think Garmin has finally hit the mark with this unit, and if you are a runner, this unit is for you. It also has biking, walking, and cardio modes other than just running. It has a water rating of 5 ATM’s and I swim with this unit. No sure why Garmin did not include a swim mode because you could use it for Triathlon training for sure. When training outdoors, no issues reading the display in direct sunlight. My wish list for this item. Include more sport modes like Swim SUP etc. It has a water rating of 5 ATM’s so why not? Support more customization for stride lengths and additional mechanisms to dial in a more accurate pace with race prediction.

I bought the 35 as a replacement for my Forerunner 410 since it had all the same features at a relatively low price. I intended to use this only for runnng but I like the ability to track steps, movement and sleeping patterns. Since the battery lasts so long I'm wearing it all the time. This locks to the GPS location very quickly so I don't have to wait before I start my runs. It's much easier to click through the current stats while I'm on a run.The built in heart rate monitor is much better than using the chest strap so now I'm tracking that all the time too. The watch face is the right size and looks fine to wear when I'm not running. The wrist band is comfortable and easy to adjust but I wish it was shorter for my narrow wrist. I like the notification alerts from my smartphone too.

I bought the Garmin Forerunner 35 on the recommendation of an experienced trainer and athlete. He was right: the watch does everything it was supposed to do, and it does it well. My main concern was how often I would need to charge the watch. So far the charge has been lasting about 2.5 days. The Forenner 35 is easy to use, and while it doesn’t have the “look” of an Apple watch, it doesn’t have the price nor complexity of the Apple either. Now my new concern: I don’t know if I am allergic to the rubber bracelet or not, but I developed a severe rash on the underside of my wrist. I took off the watch over the week-end and the rash seems to be healing. I am wearing the bracelet loose. Not sure if that will affect the heart rate reader.

The Forerunner 35 seamlessly integrates with the android app to provide all the fitness data I could possibly want. One minor annoyance is that in the walk mode, the watch does not offer the option to turn off autopause. However the android app does allow that. All the other activity modes allow you to control autopause on the watch itself, which I find useful in different walking situations such a walking the dog vs a fitness walk. Also there is no simple timer mode, nor stopwatch. These two functions are only available within an activity. Otherwise it works very reliably. Battery life is more than 8 days with gps off, and at least one full day with gps on.

I was a forerunner 10 user. I decided to upgrade due to the inclusion of heart rate in the watch. The Forerunner 35 also includes other fitness features but I'm only interested in distance, time, and heart rate. The 35 works well; it picks up the satellite signal reasonably quickly and after using the watch a couple of times, the controls become intuitive. The watch syncs easily with a smartphone and you can review your running using the Garmin app. The only negative are the tiny push buttons and their close spacing. Bottom Line - if you want a distance, time, heart rate tracker, the 35 fits the bill.

I bought this for my 12 year old son who uses it for track and cycling. It replaced his trusty 1st Gen Pebble. GPS functionality is great and quick to get a signal but can be slow with tree cover but keeps it well once locked so get a lock under clear sky before setting out. It could use a dedicated stopwatch but you can use an indoor exercise profile and just don't save it as a workout. On small wrists, the end and middle of the strap flap around and leaves quite a lot of slack but we used a small band to secure it in the middle and no longer an issue. The Garmin app is very good and cloud stored data (with lots of detail) is a bonus.

I was a little hesitant on getting the FR 35 as I really wanted a heart rate monitor chest strap. I would give this product 5 stars if the wrist heart rate monitor would be more acccurate. If you are doing an intense workout the wrist heart rate monitor will not capture the accuracy of your heart rate. I have a Garmin heart rate monitor chest strap and synced with the FR 35 and it works perfect. I would highly recommend the FR 35 and recommend that you purchase the heart rate monitor chest strap if you are looking for an accurate ready when doing a intenese workout.

I recently purchased this Garmin Forerunner 35 for outdoor running. It's a lesser model than one I had previously. So far I love the product but only wish it displayed current mile pace when running. The average pace fluctuates rather than giving me up to the second adjusted pace. So if say I'm trying to run 6 flat for a mile, I'll start out fast and it says 5:40 pace, then if I hit a slow spot it will drop to 6:25 pace. Once I hit the mile mark it tells me I ran 6:02 pace overall. I'd rather it tell me the entire time my exact pace. Otherwise it's great!

I was looking for a GPS fitness trainer that I could use for biking and for cardio exercises in the gym. It works very well. GPS - seems very accurate. Heart rate monitor - works well, but sometimes heart rate is low. It may be due to a lag in the readings. Sleep monitor seems accurate. App - Garmin Connect is excellent and it links seamlessly to My Fitness Pal. The only critical comment - this is a watch. If you want to use it full time, then you probably need to park your watch watch. I have a very nice watch that I have parked in my drawer.

I wanted a watch that would accurately measure the distance I was running, without having my phone in my pocket. This watch does just that. I had a Samsung Gear previously, but without my phone in close proximity, the Gear was terrible with distances. This Garmin is a no-frills, great distance tracking watch. I can leave my phone at home. It tracks the distance and heart rate accurately. If my phone is close by, it does alert me to a call or text, but you can't answer or respond.

Easy to use after spending time getting to know the product (instructions a bit intimidating), presentable in everyday life, lacks only swimming. Cellular and computer interface complete enough, file export to computer for backup useful. Wrist-based heart monitor never quits. A couple of misfires when used for sport due to user's clumsiness linked to lack of habit.

I love my new forerunner. Being able to swim with it is great. It is sleek and it looks like an Apple Watch. The buttons instead of touchscreen are also great so it doesn’t accidentally scroll to another screen. Only downfall is the connectivity to Bluetooth for notifications seems to have difficulty at times.

I purchased this for my wife. She has LOVED it! There was one small issue that we had at the beginning in regards to text notifications. The setting kept changing on its own...it wouldn't stay on. After a few days of turning it on and off, disconnecting it, and resetting it, we got it to work. It has so many great features...the best one is having the heart rate monitor on your wrist! No more chest band!

Very simple device but has the core features of GPS and heart rate monitoring. Easy to use. I wish there were a timer or stopwatch that I could use without starting an activity. I wish it were easier to export and analyze raw heart rate data since it is currently provided in a difficult to work with file format.

Upgraded my garmin and was not let down! Lots of easy to use features. I would have given the 5th star BUT approx 15 hrs there were unexplained sync issues between the watch and app. A search of the Internet revealed it has happened w/several garmins but no solution offered. Otherwise, this is a great watch and I would purchase it ten times over!!

I like the watch, and all of its features. We had to take the first watch back because it did not count the steps. The second watch is working perfectly. I would highly recommend it for people who want to keep track of the running, steps, and other activities.

Have been using it for a few months - does what I need time pace heart rate and gps. Things I would like - better support and instructions, more sports eg cross country skiing and perhaps better graphics - my wife’s Samsung has way better graphics - but in reality do I need that when running ??

I am one month into this as an owner: the watch fits well, the band is more friendly than most others, I like the very quick GPS connections , and the display readability. What I miss is touch although buttons are OK, some color and the fact that I can't figure out if I can get time of day on my running or walking screen
