I bought this as a gift for a friend who didn't want the cost of built in GPS in his new car. He uses it often as he is s notary that does mortgage refinance closing. Gets him there safe and 98% right. One thing we noticed, until you are use to the display getting from one screen to the other is a bit confusing.

The GPS works very well. It has lifetime map and traffic updates. The traffic updates depend on traffic cameras so they aren't accurate for locations and routes that don't have them. Overall it is a great deal that should last a long time.

The GPS works really good. I especially like the Trafic alerts, for example, I was on my way back to the city and there was construction that would cause a 30 minute delay, the GPS said there is an alternate route that will save you 15 minutes and only add .01 miles to the route. For me time is money and this saved me some money.

Bought this GPS to replace an older Garmin product with outdated maps. Used it for a nearly 2000 mile trip from the U.S. to Canada and this GPS performed flawlessly - even when we got to the dirt roads in the "middle of nowhere" in Canada. I initially had a bit of trouble getting my voice commands to be recognized but as time went on, that improved. (It seems that the key is to reduce background noise as much as possible.) While this isn't the largest screen size available, I feel it is the ideal size to not block too much visibility.
Pros:
Live traffic (Re-routing saved us a great deal of time)
Voice command (after I used it for a while)
"Up ahead" feature
Size
Cons:
Bluetooth - while connecting to my phone was simple, the poor sound quality is enough to make me not use this feature.

This product is simple to use, easy to read, accurate 99% of the time and the best part is you can talk to it. It even tells where there is traffic, school open and bad weather. This is the best product I ever bought for travel !

I just love this unit. I use it mostly for work. Comes in handy trying to find out of the way places that you could easily pass by and miss. The only downside is this unit will not spell correct a (name) address that is given to you by someone else (second hand knowledge) and provide the correct option. It will just come back with either a no address with that name or will give some names likely in another state from the one you are looking for. I like the screen look, it really looks slick; very much similar to the smart phone screens. As a new user I was once confounded when my unit did not appear to turn on (this was after a few days of not using the device). And what I found out after experimenting was that in such a case you have to plug the unit in and the unit will come to life in a few minutes (I guess it has to replenish it's charge a bit; such a device probably uses a significant amount of power to access the GPS data. And when you think about like today's smartphones only last a day or two before needing a recharge. I also find it handy that the device will pull up a photo picture in advance of an exit (on your route) that you must take. Really helps in the area familiarity. This device will also sync your phone to it using Bluetooth but I have not utilized this feature yet, but it looks very useful in regards to hands free. Overall I am more than pleased with this device and would recommend it to anyone in need of a GPS device for travels.

Great Garmin GPS. Nice sized screen. Bluetooth capability. Voice commands. Split screen for clear vision of upcoming exits. Overall a good GPS product. I travel 80% of the time with my work and a good GPS is a necessary item in cities where I am unfamiliar with the layout of the cities roadways and highways.

I had an older version nuvi, which was stolen from my car. the new pinch/zoom is much better than previous Garmin versions where you had to zoom and arrow over. bluetooth phone connection for hands-free speakerphone is great. voice command directions and traffic updates are also a large improvement

I like the quality of the screen, Bluetooth option, the voice, voice command and many other options. I still need to further test the search option. Regarding traffic, I just ordered the HD cable to improve the traffic option.
Update: I received the HD cable that you need to purchase separately if you want HD Traffic. It definitively made a significant positive change in regards to the amount of information regarding traffic and potential delays. I am very happy with this GPS. I also tested the Bluetooth connection with my phone using the GPS as hand-free speaker, the sound is very audible and people calling me can hear me clearly.
The first thing that caught my attention after migrating, when I plugged the 2599LMTHD to my computer and ran Garmin Express to update the maps, I noticed that GPS arrived with the Internal Memory at 1.8GB free and 75% full. After updating to the latest map and other recommended updates, the unit ended with 1.7GB free and 77% full.
The old unit, after 3 loyal years of service was almost full as well, but I eliminated all the unnecessary languages and keyboards and extras, I managed to squeeze out 2.2GB free and 70% full.
Perhaps the reason for the internal memory to come almost full, is that the maps are much more detailed and shows much more information, including WHAT STREET you are DRIVING on CURRENTLY. Also noteworthy is the WHATS AHEAD function, which is customizeable to show Banks, Fuel Stations, Restaurants, in your desired order.
Positives:
1) 5 inch screen is much adequate at showing relevant info of the surrounding area around you. It gets the same 2 hour stand-alone operation without charging as the older 4.3 inch unit, specially useful when plotting your next set of destinations at the hotel, without cables tangling you.
2) Spoken Directions are much more natural and sounds less robotic even at higher volume, thanks to a larger speaker (which by the way adds to the overall width of the PND at 11/16 inch)
3) Clean and intuitive user interface (classic Garmin advantage over many brands I have used), highly customizable screen and functions.
4) Foursquare app, where you can get reviews of fellow people, so you dont get punked at the wrong establishment at an unfamiliar location.
5) Pinch to zoom capability instead of tapping a + sign at the corner of the screen and re-centering the screen manually.
6) I specifically like this new function: you can point anywhere in the screen, and the unit tell you the exact address (specially useful when the address is sometimes off by tens of yards, typical in foreign addresses, OR when the address doesnt match that of google maps). In the old unit, you could only see the location you specified, and if you wanted to know what was the name of the next street and touched the screen, all you got was zoom in the map.
7) Finally you can choose what type of format you want your coordinates to be shown, I personally like the same format as google maps, which is:
h ddd.ddddd I was very frustrated by the different formats my old unit and google had, often times leading to different map outcomes. Now I can just input Google Maps coordinates, and the two outcome maps are the same.
8) Smartphone Link Capability also allows your GPS to communicate with your smartphone, albeit at a cost, to send Google Map coordinates directly to your GPS, as well as other functions such as advanced weather and traffic.
9) Fast link to satellite, around 15-20 seconds.
10) No more ads with Traffic Service.
11) Same great map coverage: USA, Canada and Mexico.
Negatives:
1) Mini USB vs Micro USB in my old unit, with the need to pack 1 more cable during your trips.
2) Since the power cable is attached to the GPS at 90 degrees, rather than the mounting base as the old unit (adding to the overall width of the product), I find it much harder to detach and re-attach the unit.
3) No RECALCULATING message, they are useful in lonely highways, where the next exit might be 10-20 miles ahead, so someone can hear the warning without having to drive way too far before realizing they overshot their destination by many unnecessary miles. This is a contentious feature, as probably 50% of people love this feature, and the other 50% find it annoying. Hey Garmin?? Why not let people decide if they want to hear or not this message? Then everybody would be happy camp...
4) The internal memory arrived almost full (with internal memory very cheap, Garmin should address this), but with todays low cost of the micro-SD cards, it is a minor gripe. I suggest you buy minimum an 8GB class 6 or above for this matter.
For having much more positives than negatives, and for advancing the User Interface as well as new useful features, all in all, a solid 4.5 Star product.

Initial Unit Problem

The first unit I received did not work after two days and had to be replaced. The store was very helpful in determining that there was a factory issue and immediately replaced the GPS. I have had no problems whatsoever since then. This is my second Garmin and they are the best. The only reason I even replaced the one I had before was for a slimmer design and larger screen. It is 10 years old and still works like a charm. Passing it on to a friend who needs one! Great product. SUGGESTION: as I was loading all my addresses into my new device I deleted them form my old devise to insure I didn't miss any! I would NOT recommend doing that until your device has been up and running for a week or so. It was a pain to recreate all the stuff on my previous device.

Worth Upgrading to This Model

We bought this unit to replace an older Garmin GPS because we liked Garmin and wanted the new features. We next drove on a tour of more than 9,000 miles in completely unfamiliar territory for us – New England and the Maritime Provinces – and found a lot of things to like about this device. Voice command and touch screen work really well for us. The display is easy to view both day and night, and the side-by-side display combines nicely with voice prompts on tricky interchanges. School speed zone warnings are very helpful and so is the traffic conditions alert. Bluetooth is a very useful enhancement. Some routing was adventuresome at best because the “fastest route” route in rural New England is often not the shortest route. Garmin seemed to prefer shortcuts via one-lane roads and mind-boggling turns and climbs. Access to some of the functions and features changed between the previous model and this one, so we experienced some learning-curve frustration there. But overall, this is an excellent navigator.

I'm very happy with this purchase! I started a job where I drive around quite a bit, and after a few times using my cell phone constantly for directions, the battery on my phone would drain very quickly. For that reason alone, I decided on getting a dedicated GPS. I've had a Garmin device previously, but hadn't replaced it after a few years due to it's battery being completely shot. I wanted a GPS device with lifetime maps and traffic, and received both with this.

The features for this GPS are as good as any I've used. The one thing that amazes me is they used a glossy screen which is definitely NOT a good idea in the bright sunshine environment of a car. It does look nice in the store when comparing to others so I suspect that was the motivation. I bought a matte finish screen protector to cut down the glare for daytime driving. The Voice Command feature is very nice. So far I've only had one address that after 20 times of saying it different ways without it being recognized, I finally gave up. I was driving down the road at the time so I suspect road noise may have played a part, but isn't that the point of having it? I did discover one bug in the software. If you set the toll road option to "Prompt" each time rather than just default to Yes or No it doesn't always display a time of arrival. I changed the default to No Toll Roads and have not had a problem since. Perhaps they will fix that with an update. I'm sorry if this review sounds all negative but you now know the negatives to go with the feature list so you can make an educated decision. Overall, despite the things I've mentioned, I like the unit. Besides, how many people live at 230 south west street...

I use this GPS whenever I have to rent a car in other places. It is easy to pack and to set up in the rental car. The screen size is large enough for a clear image that can be easily seen while driving but not too big to fit well in a brief case or in a pocket when not in the car. It can be connected via Bluetooth to a mobile phone for hands free calls, so no need for another device. The speaker gets garbled some at high volume, but otherwise OK. It will also use your contacts information in your phone for calls and addresses. Lane guidance is great for travel on unfamiliar highways with multiple lanes. Data from a previous Garmin was easily transferred to the new GPS.

Bought this unit for two reasons: 1) I needed one and 2) I really needed one in preparation for an upcoming driving tour in Scotland. I really did not want to try navigating there without electronic assistance. Turned out to be a great purchase (plus the Europe road chip that I bought), Scotland is known for its extensive use of roundabouts and this unit handled them like a charm. It gave me about a 0.25 mile alert of upcoming roundabouts and even told which of two or three exit options to take. Additionally, it showed them on the screen. Finally, the price was right. You won't go wrong with this piece of equipment.

I have used many Garmin products. This one seems to be one of the better ones. I did not have a chance to compare with others as my old one died after 5 years. I got to a Best Buy and it was on the shelf and I bought it. The Garmin name is what I bought. This one appears to be one of the more accurate ones and it does a great job on navigation. It's routing is right on. I am glad I purchased this one.

I love this GPS. It provided exit pictures for a large majority of highways and it tracks your route so you don't have to input the return address when returning from a trip - just follow the blue line. I also like the hands-free feature
