My only negative is that it calculates arrival time slower than my last Garmin. Otherwise easier to use and better screen info than my old Garmin, which is 8 years old.

Upgraded to the nuvi 2589LMT and was amazed at the improvements that this GPS has. If you are in the market for a good GPS this one is well worth the few extra bucks it will cost compared to most other brands.

This works much better than my old Garmin. It's pretty fast to update and recalculate and the voice feature seems about 75% for me. If you have any kind of accent it won't understand you, but works very well for me hands free.

This is an excellent GPS. Saw some reviews for a similar model but could not find it and end up getting this one. Works great and fast. connects to the phone via bluetooth and voice command works most of the time. Can search for something similar instead of the place I am looking for. Fast, accurate, and has traffic. Reroutes fast. I'm done using phone GPS to find my way as it can be a nightmare when phone calls come in or there is a drop in cell signal or GPS.

Update for an older Garmin

I have a 5 year old Garmin that has lifetime maps and it works but it gets a little slow sometimes. I have reset it and it seems to help but I wanted a new toy.
This seems to have a stronger GPS receiver. I set my units up in my house and test them from inside initially and when going on a trip. The old unit would have trouble getting a satellite signal when I was inside and I would have to go outside in the yard for the unit to get the location. I found it interesting that my phone could get a better signal than a unit made specifically for this use. The new GPS has had no trouble getting a signal and it acquires it faster.
The Voice Command works well. I have only had a couple times it did not understand me. It is nice to be able to get restaurant, gas, rest stop, etc. information without having to touch the unit. It will show you the commands on the screen if you don't know the exact command.
We do not have traffic information in our area so I can't say how well it works.
I did have a problem updating the maps using the Garmin Express. It took several times for the update to actually work but it is updated. I knocked the star because of it. My old unit seemed to update easier which seems backward to me.
I like the lane information on the new GPS. This is probably why the new maps are so huge and may be why they have trouble but it should be fixed.

I really enjoy this GPS, especially when you travel it is really comfortable and it shows you all the traffic, and also has a voice commands and shows you the real picture of the exit or intersection you have to take. You can connect it with your phone through the Bluetooth system and take your calls, with the discount price I got it is a great purchase.

This GPS works amazingly - when we bought it, we did so for the hands free navigation - which is a godsend during heavy traffic with two kids! I really like how it has lifetime updates and that your phone can go through it, so when we are in a car that doesn't have Bluetooth - and have both kids with us, we can make calls hands free from anywhere.
The only downfall is the battery life. And the fact that you can't charge the device while using it.

I bought this one first for the purpose of traffic information. But I came to know from Garmin later that traffic updates are provided from Seattle till the south of tacoma or may be till the olympia...since i wanted to use it mainly in tumwater, I decided to exchange it with a non traffic model, which was 50$ less than this one.
I did not find any issues with this product otherwise. I was able to connect it to car and my phone bluetooth smoothly.

Following my review of Garmin GPS devices, it appeared that the 2589 would best suit my needs; nice size screen, LED, voice activation. The Best Buy sales person was extremely knowledgeable and took the time to personally compare pricing on line to insure Best Buy was being price competitive, and they were! Since traveling most of the east coast the devices has not let me down. The voice activation is great; you may need to occasionally turn off your radio, but it makes changing locations while driving a breeze. Great device, excellent value!

I had several GPS units that included brands such as Garmin , TomTom, and Magellan. I always feel that the Garmin GPS is the best in easiness of use and unit responding times. This unit I bought surly kept these traditional values of a Garmin GPS, while added features that made it even more appealing, such as voice commands and blue tooth connection to smartphone.
I am very happy to have bought this GPS for my travel needs.

I just came back from a trip and I really liked the voice command even though sometimes it took awhile to understand but easier than typing in. I liked the traffic updates. I, especially, liked the lane navigation. Told you exactly what lane or lanes you needed to be in when coming up on splits or exits. I, also, liked the restaurant, gas, and hotel info on exits. Didn't use all of what it does but far better than my old Garmin.

I bought this GPS while on vacation, tempted by a Black Friday deal. I figured there was no better way to test its capabilities compared to my older Garmin than side by side on the road driving from Florida back home to Nebraska.
The voice commands are the highlight. No more fumbling with a touch screen to type in an address; now I can speak the address and with a few acknowledgements of menu choices I'm on my way. It's not perfect; no voice recognition will be (one time "Papillion, Nebraska" was heard by the GPS as "King Salmon, Alaska"), but having used it for about a month nine times out of ten the GPS hears it correctly, and if not I simply say it again and that most often takes care of it. I had to try three times once or twice out of a few dozen addresses. I can't say for sure if it was the GPS' fault or mine for not clearly speaking the address.
The real time traffic popped up while driving through Atlanta, GA; the GPS announced it was adding 54 minutes of travel time based on a delay well ahead of us. Whilethe actual delay time wasn't exactly 54 minutes, we definitely encountered delays with heavy traffic, so the claim of delays was spot on.
This GPS doesn't fit my Garmin friction mount as it is larger than my old 3450LM. I tried the provided suction cup which is surprisingly strong, much better than the average mount provided with such electronics.
All in all this is the best GPS I've owned. I've been using Garmin exclusively for over a decade, and will continue to with the quality they've put into their products!

I love my new Garmin ! Much much better than using my cellphone . I highly recommend it. Only takes a little bit of time too figure out all of its really cool features and you're good to go . I suggest also too go a step further and invest the extra money for a dashboard stand for it instead of using the windshield suction cup as well as extra batteries if you're planning on a lengthy road trip for several days.
