I'm a long time user of GPS and got this unit based on ratings. It is difficult to operate and not intuitive. I still don't know how to view the entire route summary. I have given others the unit and manual, and they can't figure it out either. Ok for basic get me there, not for overviews etc.

As you can tell it has not been a good experinece. We had to order the 2597 from the store because it had not came out yet. When we did receive it in mail no manual, no instructions, no telephone number. Finally got on web site found telephone number then had to find and copy manual., but when we finally got it copied off its for a 2707/2708 series and that is not what out is .Ours is a 2597, the details are not the same. Then we were told we had to download newest maps, on a brand new GPS. We live in the country and our internet service is pretty slow so after 18 hours of downloading , we finally went to sons house and downloaded our info. Finally put our address Home in it. had to put in another town to get it to find it.Crazy..... Hope you have better luck with yours.

Not sure how to use product features as yet. Find it more difficult than the Magellan I had previously. Store staff was unable to assist in showing me how to use it. Online manual is tedious. May consider returning it for an alternate product.

Purchased for use in an RV, so it hardly gets used, only in the summer months and only for a few days a week, at most. So we've had it two years but it has less than an actual year of minimal use. Either the traffic cable is no longer any good or the unit itself, and since the warranty is only good for a year, we are stuck with buying a $60 replacement cable or spending $90 for a refurbished unit. Piece of junk, the cable message goes on constantly, sometimes at the precise moment when you need to see the road, turn or direction and it's dangerous. Won't buy Garmin products again. Terrible customer service.

We had an older version of this GPS and needed to upgrade. Love the lifetime maps feature and traffic updates. The screen is big enough that we can see it easily with our older eyes. Haven't tried the blue tooth yet, but that will be next.

Cannot enter intersections. Updates must be done using a separate device. Routes chosen are not the fastest when settings indicate they should be and it doesn't even learn the fastest route when I take them. Should have gone with an upgrade.

I live in a city and wanted a GPS with a traffic function. It doesn't get very current information and had not re-routed me once. I should have stuck with using google maps or waze on my phone.

I just moved to a new city and purchased this to assist in getting around. This GPS spends most of it's time lost. It doesn't recognize the streets being traveled. A good number of street names are incorrect. I will be traveling on a major road and the GPS shows me in the middle of nothing. Once you get into a programmed address you can't easily get out. This GPS is earmarked for return to the store.

Everything I need, and more

This thing beats the pants off the ancient 3.5" Garmin cube hand-me-down I was using, dating from early 2000s. While that thing still works, sometimes it would tell me to turn after I was already past, then send me into the "make a U-turn" routine. This 2597LMT speaks the directions well in advance of the intersections, sometimes miles in advance, and even has an option to turn off the stupid U-turn directions. It recognizes voice commands, which I absolutely love, and allows me to navigate or find places completely hands free. The key to that feature is to speak loud and clear and enunciate, otherwise I have had zero issues with voice recognition. This particular model also allows you to connect a mobile phone to the GPS via bluetooth for hands free calling! This was not a feature I cared about until I tried it with my older samsung tracfone, and it works great. Using voice commands you can search the address book or simply speak the name of the contact and begin dialing and talking, so you never have to take your eyes off the road or your hands off the wheel! I have yet to try the Live Traffic Updates as my understanding is that it will only work in larger metro areas that have the service, or if I download a special app for my phone and connect via bluetooth, for areas that do not have the service. I do occasionally drive through the Twin Cities where traffic is typically horrible, so I'll get to try it out then. I did not see the nuvi 2597LMT listed on Garmin's web site, but I did find it on their site through a search, so I'm not sure where it falls in their product lines? Nevertheless this GPS has way more features than I could have imagined. For the price I paid at BB on sale, the thing is a steal.

I have always had Tom Tom's and wanted to try Garmin because of good reviews. I did not like the Garmin at all. Very hard to navigate and I could not figure it out even after much research. Went back to my Tom Tom which works wonderfully.

I chose this particular model because it has all of the same features as its replacement (2589LMT) without Yelp or 4 square, I have a smart phone for that, which is what smart phones are for.
Fortunately I was able to glean all the info I needed to make my decision on this unit, because the otherwise very knowledgeable BestBuy staff were terribly uninformed on this technology. Also the displays were trashed, I've been in retail and I'd be embarrassed as a manager of the auto section.
Of the very few units displayed, only 3 even had power, and no demo mode running, just locked in the "ACQUIRING SIGNAL" screen. I almost left because the only visible inventory to pick up and take to the cashier was limited to 4 or 5 units. Fortunately the major appliance manager came over to try to help me and knew where the units for sale were located. Too bad they had about a dozen other GPS's in the locked up, out of view case, where no customer would ever see them.
Overall not a horrible buying experience, but I was about to head over to a competitor when an associate who knew where the hidden inventory was located offered to help.
A final note to the associate who tried to help me - No, a smart phone is hardly superior to a standalone GPS. Smart phones rely upon an Internet connection to generate the map, when you lose your connection the app generates a "best guess" as to your true location based on your speed and heading when the connection crashes. Yes some apps download actual maps, but will eat up at least a couple gigs of storage on your phone.
Finally, many smartphones, especially iPhones cannot handle the heat of a vehicles dash, causing your screen to go fully black pretty quickly on a sunny summer day.
Happy Motoring!

Just purchased the Nuvi and love it. It's the perfect size for your dashboard, has all the features that make a great portable GPS. Love the Bluetooth and would recommend that you spend that little extra to get this model. I paid $149 (on sale) at BestBuy.
