Best GPS ever. I don't regret buying this

I was so unsure about GPS. For starter, I'm picky with appearance and hope to have good looking GPS. Plus I'm picky with features. I like having GPS with good features. After comparing several GPS and this GPS, I figured what's the harm in trying this GPS. When I picked it up, it was definitely beautiful. Not only that, I played with features in it. I'm VERY impressed. Especially with Garmin app on my phone. Every time I get in my car, Garmin immediately open on my iPhone and ask me where I want to go. You can check weather, speedometer, traffic, etc on GPS. Not only that, I'm famous for missing exit or turns. But this makes sure I get to the right exit. Very accurate and it has never let me down. I've had this for 7 months. Unfortunately it's missing because it was robbed while my car was at the shop for repair. But I definitely will buy this again, regardless to the price. It's worth it!

    Love it...!

We've owned Garmin GPS devices for a number of years, so when our most recent one needed to be replaced, this was the one we selected...! We were in the middle of a trip, (didn't have time to do a lot of research) so did a search for the closest Best Buy store and made our purchase. They had a nice selection of models in stock. This unit is very straight-forward and easy to use right out of the box, and affixes easily to the car (with a suction/swivel included). We particularly like that the screen shows you which lane you need to be in. The only major issue we have with Garmin is their lifetime map update feature. It doesn't seem to work. (Perhaps it's because our older model--which is at least 5 years old-- was SO old that the new updates couldn't be loaded properly...who knows...? Garmin is rather slow to respond to support questions...but when they did finally respond, none of their suggested "fixes" actually worked. I don't know whether this is an issue with other manufacturers.) Overall, we really like Garmin units, so we'll stick with them.

    Replacing my 2008/2009 Nuvi 765T

I purchased this unit after my much loved 765T just bit the dust from out of nowhere. I had definitely gotten my money's worth out of that unit. I was looking for a unit with similar features. This unit actually had additional features that I may or may not use, as I never used the bluetooth option on the 765T. The price in store was listed as a sale a price-- the Best Buy price online $50 cheaper. The store made good on their price match (matching their own price LOL), and after using Best Buy bonus bucks and a gift card, walked out with a VERY affordable out-of-pocket price paid. Setting up from my computer was a dream. Just plug it in and away you go! I am glad I chose to get the matte screen and not the glossy screen. My 765T had a matte screen and during extremely sunny days it could get more difficult to see. With the glossy screen, the glare would have made it close to impossible to view on a very sunny day. I will admit-- I'm still in the setup stage... I will keep you posted!

This is my second Garmin and the brand speaks for it self. For the price this was a excellent choice. The large screen and picture quality is ideal. Smartphone link is very useful. The Unit will pay for it self with Lifetime maps.

I bought this for my mom, who is older. She is not at all tech savvy. She easily used it from the start. It is large in size, so she can see it well also. It is very easy to use and a great product that is dependable.

Nice little GPS for use in my job. As a courier it's essential I know where I'm going, and this unit gets me there accurately. I like the different voices and icons you can download instead of the boring standard ones that most units have. My only complaint is that it's not compatible with my Bluetooth headset.

    So far not impressed

Picked it up yesterday at lunchtime for my wife. It was a one-day sale and given the good reviews it seemed like a good buy. When I got back to the office I uploaded current maps and software updates, which took almost an hour and a half to finish and drained most of the resources on my pc, as you have to install their Garmin program to do it. It felt like it took forever. Using it on the way home, the first thing I noticed is that it routed me what is usually the quickest way home (it was the same route I take into work every morning), but I never go that way at 5pm because the delays getting through town are significant. I had understood that this unit accounted for traffic, but that was not the case. Not a big deal I thought, so I started the back way home and figured it would adjust. For the next 4 miles it tried to reroute me back to the original route, and it showed an arrival time in 50 minutes. Had it recognized the route I was actually taking it should have changed the route and updated the arrival time to be roughly 1/2 of that. I tried pressing the button for traffic delays and it told me there were no significant delays so it appeared not to take into account typical rush hour volume delays. After roughly 8 miles of my 20 mile trip home it tried to guide me to a route that was twice as long time-wise as the route I was taking/normally take to get home. It was telling to take a left and that the arrival time would be 45 minutes later, but I knew I was 20 minutes from home the way I was going. (I would have preferred it also displayed the travel time). That left me little confidence in the unit, so I pulled over and checked the settings. It was preset to find the fastest route, so why it was trying to constantly reroute me onto a much longer route I have no idea. I did like that it displayed the speed limit of the road I was on as well as the speed I was traveling. Suffice to say that the rest of the ride home it never accurately estimated the arrival time. The unit tells you the distance before you turn and never tells you to take, say "the second left" as the built-in unit in my own car does. It also was inconsistent in when it told you the distance to turn - I would have expected it would tell me when I was a mile out to prepare to turn, but it waited longer to tell me. In city traffic, having late notice of which lane to be in well before you need to actually turn would be a big problem, and I know my wife is not great with estimated distances in the first place. I looked to see if there was an option to set to modify the notice function, but could not find one. It also doesn't let you set up a road to avoid, which is not good. I was never able to tell it to direct me a different way home, because it kept trying to constantly redirect me back to the main roads with the heaviest traffic, which might have been best except at rush hour, but they still were far longer routes than the one I was taking. I gave it to my wife to try it today to see how she likes it, but I have the feeling I will be returning it next week.

Thank you for sharing your feedback after using this product. I would like to address just a couple of items that you may want to take a look at regarding the navigation settings on this unit. You mentioned that you had the device set to Faster Time, which should be optimal. You will want to check the selected avoidances and ensure that there are checkmarks only on the avoidances that you would like to avoid at all costs, as some will create less efficient routing.

"What are the navigational avoidances on my Garmin nuvi, LIVE, dezl, Camper/RV, or zumo device?"

Lastly, you may want to go to Settings > Traffic and try experimenting with trafficTrends enabled and disabled, to see which setting provides a more preferable route to you. You can read more about trafficTrends in the following article:

"What is trafficTrends and how does it work on my Garmin device?"

accuracy is always awesome with Garmin + the on the fly navigation to gas/food is better than any smart phone. Two main issues have been : 1. It wasn't easy to upload latest maps. Their servers were down for a long period of time. 2. the suction cup wouldn't stick to my dash. My older garmin had no problem with this.

I'm sure you can get more features for more money, but I am not sure why you would want to. VERY good directions, love the street-view when a big turn/intersection is coming up, etc. Also will connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth, which is great for using the phone app to transfer an address to your GPS unit instantly. Really handy feature. Great mounting system, and screen is very easy to read, even in daylight.

Great product. Will Need Micro SD card!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This GPS is fantastic. I wont bother repeating the other review's good points. I did want to mention that this week I found out the internal memory is not adequate for the latest map update. (Updates done quarterly through downloaded Garmin Express program). I have only done two updates since buying this unit and this last update said it needed a micro SD card to install the full update. It gave some options if one was not available, (only download a certain section of map instead of the entire country), but then the voice recognition would not work it said. (The whole reason I bought THIS machine). So be warned - get an additional 8 GB micro SD card first before trying to update this GPS with the latest map update. With lifetime updates - 8 GB is the recommended minimum size memory expansion. The only other complaint I have is that I bought this unit to send with my wife and her family on a trip from NYC to Toronto because of the voice recognition feature. My wife and her family are all from an Asian country and it turns out the voice recognition was useless for them - the machine could not figure out what they were saying with their accents. Oh well. - I have never had a problem with the feature myself. Definitely worth spending the extra money for in my opinion.
