How GPS displays information is very important to user. bad display errases all benefits from good programming. The screen is quite dim and there isn't much contrast. I triyed to adjusted display but not much i could get from it. My old Gurmin 255W screen was better. Colors were more brighter. I did not use new GPS much, have it for a few days. Cannot tell you about another things. will learn more from using it.

Overall very good working GPS. Always nice to have one handy when your phone is dead or want a hands free experience with the gadget to secure it to the windshield.

Disappointed

I bought this GPS unit because I had too much going on on my smart phone. Going from my iPhone using Google maps to this voice recognition GPS is a huge let down. The traffic feature is so far off compared to Google maps that it is a useless joke. In metro Atlanta and suburbs google identifies traffic problems that do not even appear on this unit

Failed to be power-on after 3 months of usage

I bought the nuvi 2597 LMT from BestBuy 3 months ago. It worked normally until a few days ago it suddenly failed to be power-on even I just had it connect to my car outlet for more than an hour and the battery was almost full. I sent an email to Garmin support and got a response shortly.
The support tech sent me a list of instructions to check.
I found that I already did the most of tips from the list except "press on the power on/off button for 15 seconds.
Today I did press on the power button for 15 seconds before I plug it into my car outlet. Guess what's happen... It works again.
After driving for an hour hour, the battery was about 3/4 full.
I had the same experience for nuvi 2598 LMT in last August. That's why I returned nuvi 2598 LMT and purchased this nuvi 2597 LMT. I wish the Garmin experts could figure out what's wrong in both devices soon and provide the users with remedy methods or download update firmware into nuvi 2597/2598 LMT.

No Security

I bought this nuvi 2597 yesterday to replace a nuvi 1450 that was broken.
I was surprised to find that the nuvi 2597 HAS NO SECURITY. The 5 year old 1450 supported the selection of a pin code to lock the device. The new 2597 does not have this feature. Besides the obvious issue that someone stealing this GPS will be able turn it on and use it (the crime pays), the bigger problem is that they also have your home location stored in the device.

The Garmin lock feature has been removed due to a change in design. If you would like to see this feature added back, we welcome you to submit this and other ideas at: http://www.garmin.com/ideas
If you feel having your home location saved is a security concern, you may consider setting your "home" location to a nearby intersection.

This is a good gps unit. The screen could be a little larger, but it does well in direct sunlight. The battery is a joke and doesn't last very long at all without being plugged in which can be a problem if you need to use your 12V for something else.

Bought this during the thanksgiving sale, so great deal. My only concern is a to select side streets only, had to go to so many steps to do it. Sometimes delayed with giving directions. Love the voice command option though

I was very happy with this Garmin. It let me know where the nearest Starbucks was. I could save my regular destinations. It gave me traffic, gas station and fast food locations, and a decently accurate ETA. I also liked that it showed me my speed and the speed limit. And then one day the screen when blank. The fade to black seems to be because of the flimsy connection. I'm thinking that USB might be a little light weight if you unplug and put your Garmin in a hiding place every time you park. If I jiggle the connection a little, the screen will come back to life, but it is short lived. Gotta go check my warranty.

This was a really good GPS overall even though sometimes it does not turn on right away. I did like the traffic update since it helped me save time a couple of times.

There are many things to love about the product, including the trip planner which allows you to put several stops in at once. However, after having owned this unit for about 8 months now, it has become VERY slow in responding. If I make a turn, it could take up 1/2 mile before the GPS "catches up" and gives me the next manuever. While driving down the highway, the unit will suddenly ask me for a voice command. I also have problems with it giving incorrect directions. Very strange, and disappointing that it is giving me problems now.

Daniel Boon didn't have a GPS, Jim Bridger didn't have a GPS, Lewis and Clark didn't have a GPS, and I don't need no stinkin' GPS, but I got one anyway. Based on new highway construction in my area I would say the maps are about six months behind. Given all the bells and whistles on this device, you would think it would tell you which way is North. If it does, I have not found it. Thanks to billboards and road signs, 90% of what it does tell me is redundant. The other 10% is helpful if you are driving alone. To use all its features you really need a smart phone, which is an expense I refuse to assume.

Great GPS to use

This GPS was easy to set up and update. I use it to commute to work ..Love the Bluetooth and smart link app. The app lets you look up places on a map on your smart phone and send it to the gps. This comes in handy if the GPS cannot find the address in it's data. Screen is easy to navigate though a little hard to see in direct sunlight. Over is good.!!
