Easy to set up, sometimes doesn't connect to the phone, so I have to unplug and plug it back in. Also it doesn't recognize the SD card sometimes so I have to reinsert that also. Overall though it's a nice GPS and Alexa assistant.

I have had this about a year and recently replaced with a different cam. The camera is fine. The Alexa frequently has connection issues. After trying everything, I figured out several key issues that makes it unusable for me. It cannot maintain a connection while you phone is also connected to CarPlay or Android Auto. I also have issues if for any reason it loses connection to the phone as it cannot reconnect unless you power off and restart. This is a problem as a remote start of my car prevents connection and unless I unplug the garmin and restart it, it will not connect when I get in and drive. When it cannot connect it will continue to rub it in by telling you to open the garmin app. This annoyance has finally caused me to pull it from the windshield and throw it on the backseat floor. This is my third and last Garmin dashcam.. One died completely, this alexa was a usability fail and the third will shut down periodically.

I was excited about this Garmin dash cam since It was announced. I have used it for about a month. I have only viewed footage a couple times but the dash camera works great! It came preloaded with a memory card and it just seems to work. The Alexa aspect is awesome. I just put in an Apple CarPlay stereo in my car and slightly regret it. This product would be awesome in a car with no bluetooth but you want to add it or if you just want to add bluetooth music to your car. There have been regular software updates which makes it run even smoother. Thanks Garmin!

At first I was going to return this. But once you start to figure it out, it gets better. Camera is decent but you start to add in the little features like lane assist and collision warning, it really is good. Add in Alexa and things get better. My wish would be that they would just sell the little window magnet and not have to buy the whole assembly. App is ok, sometimes a bit laggy with viewing the video clips. Overall, I’m happy. Zero issues with overheating.

My vehicle was T-boned by a person that ran a red light no witnesses it was their word against mine the camera saved the day. Audio and video was perfect. Was able to upload video clip to my phone in seconds to show the officers on scene . Alexa called for help. I will install one in my wife’s vehicle as well. Thank you Garmin!

After using this product for a few months I am able to tell that it makes the perfect dash cam. Not only does it allow you to see unsaved footage for however long your micro SD card will last but it will automatically over write that to keep recording. This allows you to just plug it in and be able to forget about it as it also automatically starts recording as soon as the car is on. The amazing echo part of it is just an added bonus which in addition to the camera, works great too.

I purchased garmin speak without dash camb version two months ago and I purchased speak plus with dashcam version today. This is little fun gadget play with while you are in car. Pro is made by well known company Garmin. Because when I first purchased two months ago, too many software bugs but Garmin keep improving performance and adding new features. I don’t expect this kind of software update from unknown brand. don’t expect too much for the driving assistant features. It isn’t work well but possible to work better later with new software update. Fun high tech gadget to play with.

As a Lyft driver I find it is very important to have a dash camera when you’re on the road all-day several days a week. My chances of being involved in an accident are quite high at that point. As with anything involving humans, numerous other drivers out there on the road are total liars. They’ll jump out of their car after t-boning you in an intersection where YOU had a green light, and claim THEY had the green light. Don’t be their victim, get a dash cam to protect yourself. As for this particular dash-cam, it’s a great unit. It’s the third one I’ve purchased because the first two (from other brands) ended up dying from overheating within a few days of installation. It’s been a few weeks now, and it’s still going strong. It’s worth mentioning that this device requires Bluetooth to your phone in order to use the navigation and Alexa features over your phone’s data plan. It’s also worth mentioning that you will need to turn it on every time you start a drive. Unless you were only parked for less than 15min. I’m not bothered by these things but they didn’t explain them, I found out on my own. Get this camera because the resistance to heat and great functionality/good quality video.

This device has a lot of promise, but it has a lot of bugs. First, the good aspects. The size is great, and the display is quite clear. The dashcam videos are excellent, though viewing them is a bit quirky. The Alexa function works well, but the Garmin functions are not well integrated because one has to tell Alexa to "ask Garmin" to take you to a destination. However, the auxiliary audio output will not work unless power is disconnected and reconnected. Next, a route does not continue if power is disconnected (stopping engine) . It is necessary to "ask Garmin" to take you to your destination again after restarting the engine. The volume seems to reset each time the device is started. Depending on where it is installed the brightness of the display could be distracting at night. There should be a way to dim it at night. I think this device has a lot of good ideas and that its problems are fixable, but at this point I would not recommend it.

I am an avid Amazon Prime user and I've been looking into getting a dash cam for a long time. Naturally, I was really excited when I first heard about the Garmin Speak Plus. It's compact for a dashcam and I haven't had a great experience using Google Assistant on my car so I thought this would be the perfect product for me. Sadly, I was wrong. Trying to setup the device for the first time was infinitely frustrating. 2 hours in and I couldn't get it to work. After pairing the device using the Garmin Speak app, it will try to "Activate your Garmin Speak" to no avail. Every single time I would get the error message "Something didn't go quite right. Make sure you are connected to the internet and try again". I tried using Carrier Data, tried using WiFi, tried it with 2 different android phones from 2 different carriers (T-Mobile LGV20 and ATT LG G5), followed the troubleshooting instructions on their website, cleared the cache, restarted the phone, unpaired the device, reinstalled the app, reset the Speak Plus, and nothing. After contacting customer support and answering questions for 30 minutes they couldn't do anything for me besides opening a ticket. I bet this thing wasn't even tested on an android device that wasn't made by Samsung. It is clearly optimized for Apple and I doubt they will give much support for Android in the future. Will be returning this tomorrow. If i could give 0 stars I would.

Thank you for your review. I’m sorry to hear about the confusion with smartphone compatibility. The Speak Plus is compatible with Android™ 5.0 and later as well as many of the iPhones. The error message you are describing is generally associated with non-U.S. Amazon accounts. The Garmin Speak Plus currently only supports the U.S. English language and provides navigation/guidance for U.S. Amazon account customers. If you are use a suitable Amazon account, please reach out to us at [email protected]. Garmin

Did not expect this tiny GPS/Alexa device to work as well as it does but guess what, I am impressed. Nice to be able to get into my truck on a hot day and ask Alexa to turn on my AC at home. The heat on a hot day does seem to cause it to freeze up a bit at times but then I just replug the device and it works fine. I like it...

One Year of Ownership; Lasted Well!

With smart devices, I wait a long time to see how they age before I review. After a year, only one malfunction has happened to the device. Now some of the LEDs display the incorrect color, that’s it. Other than that, the issues I’ve had have been mostly with Alexa. The device itself is great thought. You MUST be connected to the internet to ask Alexa to then ask Garmin to save a video of a driving incident. This is a feature of Alexa, so in the past when Alexa has gone offline, I’ve had issues with not being able to do anything with my device. A distinct time I remember this is when I was driving and needed the device to stop giving directions. The Alexa service went offline, so there was no way to reroute or cancel the directions it was giving me until I arrived to the destination. Alexa is also highly aggressive when it comes to advertising. If you ask it to tell you a joke, it tells you a SPONSORED joke! Now /that/ is a joke. Not everything this device does should be an advertisement. The small display is well visible even in the brightest of lights, and the GPS function is highly accurate. You will need to learn how to reset the device, as sometimes the GPS gets confused and slows down. The heat of my car is responsible for he LED damage that’s happened to it, and I’ve never had the warning of maximum temperature on this device despite not having AC. That being said, do NOT touch it until it’s been off for a while. It gets incredibly hot to the touch, and that’s why I held off on this review. Despite these flaws, I recommend this device to other delivery drivers in the area. It’s saved my bacon with road rage and police reports. I even save videos of accidents I’m not involved in with the feature to take photos and save video. I hope for the next generation, the device removes heat better, it keeps the same type of display and similar form factor, and it doesn’t rely on Alexa for essential functions like GPS Direction and Video / photo saving. I would prefer a choice of assistant if possible!

Let me start by saying the first Speak Plus that was purchased did not work and had to be returned. That being said the second worked perfectly. I really like this product. It works well as a dash cam. I love having access to Alexia in the car. If you are purchasing as a gps only you have better options.

Great idea to integrate camera, sensors and Alexa. Still a little buggy, not sure if it is app (Android) or device itself. I recommend patience when you first buy it as it is getting a little bit of understanding the concept, but you might really enjoy it once you get the whole idea.

Had original speak which did not work great. Alexa response was slow most of the time and end of speech detection was not working making it worse. New version seems improved and dash cam is a nice touch but you have to switch apps to view videos. Sometimes connection fails for transfer of videos.
