I thought this would be a great gadget in the car, but I just couldn't get it to work. I tried different things but no go. I am not exactly a wizard this stuff but I might try it again some time - otherwise a waste of money.

This is great! It plugs into my car stereo using the AUX connection. I get the use of my Prime Music along with getting directions all in Alexa's voice. This Garmin device has some cool safety features as well. I recommend one for every vehicle if you use Alexa at home and like to travel.

The small size surprised me. Yet it acts like a baby echo DOT for your car. I added Garmin Speak app to my Android phone first to see if I would like it. Okay, not a huge fan yet, but I was able to add HOME, WORK and SCHOOL to the top three (3) common destinations list. More on the app later. Installing: Not hard, but first be sure to consider the location with your windshield visor both up and down as you may do what I first did and placed it too close and the visor hid the device from view. My bad. That fixed, plan where to run your power cable. I went from the center console, around the bottom of the steering wheel. Look out for the adjustments in the steering wheel for all drivers. Mine cleared everything easily. Next I was able to feed the thin cable in behind the door seal. Looks great. Finally, dressing the cable away from the side pillar air bags, up and around the top windshield head liner and down the mirror to the Garmin Speak. Clever magnet allows removal if you need it in another car or want to safely stow it from view. The app allowed me to drive to the library and back home by just asking it to find the destination. Great! The soothing Alexa voice prompted me ahead of each turn and the color LED ring accent complimented the cool arrow and distance indicator on the small display. Just enough ques to get me there. Next trip was farther. You add the address ahead of time to you list and it makes calling it up a breeze on the road. Easy to pair with phone and car audio via Bluetooth. Even had a AUX port to mimic your phone's headphone jack if you car has an input. No 3.5-mm cable tough. CONS: Hard to read in the bright glare of sunrise/sunset, but voice still works great. Placement on windshield might be illegal in some states. Always check first. Hoping the app keeps getting better, but a solid start.

Depending on your cellular coverage/ provider; this may be a great unit. I did not like that it would take audio from my airpods. It also required the phone to actively reroute. It was a great design, but sadly is merely a second screen for the phones mapping.

I am so happy I purchased this. It is a great product. No more messing with the phone constantly, When I come home I can tell alexa to turn my garage light on, my den lights and bedroom lights. Everything is already on including the television. This is well worth the price.

The biggest difference between this and the usual GPS is there is not screen with a map to see if more direct route. At times, the routes are through residential neighborhoods that were questionable. One time to a dead road.

The Garmin Speak will create routes by estimating the fastest and most direct way to reach a destination using major roadways. To do so, it will use the navigation settings selected in the Garmin Speak app. If the device takes you to the wrong destination, verify that the destination is located in the correct place on the map through the Garmin Speak app. Garmin

The best way to set it up is to download the Garmin Speak app first. If you already have the Amazon app installed, it will make it even easier because you won’t have to log in to your amazon account. I had it up and running in less than 2 minutes using an iPhone. The screen is tiny and it only displays distance and arrows. For that reason, it is very discreet. I’m pretty sure that people will have different experiences with this device. Some will love it, others will hate it and here is why. There was a lot of delay in response after having Alexa ask Garmin for directions. When cell phone signal was high, I got a response within 3 to 6 seconds but my experience with signal strength varying a lot, some responses took over 20 seconds. That is more than just annoying and it seems that it is useless without cell phone service which you can tell by the red ring around Garmin Speak. Also, there was some cutting every now and then. I couldn’t tell whether it was an issue with Bluetooth, iPhone or something else. I loved having Amazon Alexa in my car. I was able to turn off lights at home while on the road, as well as to confirm that I had my garage open closed, just like I can using my Amazon Dot at home. I enjoy listening to audio books and with Alexa, it makes it easy to control that function. It turned my car into a type of entertainment center. It not only can play music but also tell jokes, entertain the kids and more. Traffic updates were available and useful but I found Waze was more accurate. If you don’t have a dedicated GPS, it will most likely be ok for navigation although I prefer a bigger screen or an app such as the one I just mentioned. I would still recommend it but for now, it is mostly because of Alexa. It is a neat device and I am sure the GPS part will improve with time since it can be updated with software and even integrated with the phone app so you can also have a visual map. For Alexa, I would give it 4 stars. For navigation, 3 stars. It is an excellent idea but it needs some work still and I believe Garmin can work it out.

Having Alexa was nice, but there are way cheaper ways to do that. The GPS was spotty at best, and I also didn't like having to organize all that cord. Sent it back.

A very cool device, but two apps are needed to run

Okay, I really like the idea of a small GPS device that can be interfaced with your phone, and can do much much more. The setup and apps needs help for people who are not in the mood for a more complex arrangement. You will need the Garmin Speak app, and the Alexa app, you'll still need to connect it to a computer so it can download any updates - if not, you'll continue to see a nag screen about connecting to a computer each time it powers up. My feeling is that if Garmin needs Alexa to run, there should be a single app that is developed so only a single app is being dealt with - and also, the app should not have to be open to make this device be able to be used. Too many times we close our apps on our phones before bed, but don't want to have to leave one of them open, let alone two of them, for a product to work as we rush off to work or elsewhere. Now, that all said, this has so much to offer, that the 2 app and leaving apps open thing may be worth it. You can use Alexa from Amazon as you would at home - it is linked to your Amazon account. You also link this to Pandora for example, so you can play music through that or your Amazon music app. Directions and traffic are courtesy of Garmin. This has a real GPS device inside of it, so it knows where you are based on the device, not your phone. Your phone is a conduit to the Garmin and Alexa worlds, using bluetooth to connect to the device and your phone's data plan will carry the data back and forth. You will get turn by turn directions, traffic delays, and all done through words vs. having to look at your phone's screen - a safety thing for sure. But also less complicated. You can ask Alexa to tell jokes, provide trivia, order something you forgot to order, play music, and the million other things Alexa can do for you -or you can ask her to get you directions, tell you the weather, and whatever else. It comes with a power cord to plug into a cigarette lighter plug, and has a jack to plug into the aux outlet in your car if you don't have bluetooth audio on the radio that is in your car. It has a window glass sticker that holds the device on via a heavy duty magnet. You can attach to the glass and then take it down via a magnet when it is time to bring inside or put in the glove box. Is this a worthy device for most? Yes! If you don't have the time or patience to run two apps, keep two apps open to allow this to work, etc. then you should consider other options to prevent yourself from being frustrated. It has countless benefits, yes. And it can provide hands free many things you would need to open by pressing apps and keys on your phone, a serious safety risk. This presents you with a safety device that will allow you to go through your travels more safely than tapping buttons on your phone or staring at your phone. Its voice recognition is very good, and responds to these words quite well.

Hello Steve, I’m glad to hear that you’re pleased with the device. I’d like to mention that the device does not need to be connected to the computer for updates. The Garmin Speak app will receive automatic updates through your phone’s operating system. To manually check for updates, search for the app in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android), which will state whether an update is available.
It is highly recommended to use the provided vehicle power cable to power the Garmin Speak. A third-party charger or micro-USB cable can be used, but may not power the device or allow it to communicate with the phone or the Garmin Speak app. If using a third-party charger or micro-USB cable in the vehicle, the device may prompt to "Connect to Computer". In this case, press the top button next to the X to use the device normally.
If you have questions or need additional support, we would love to hear from you. Please email [email protected]. Garmin
