This is just the right size for our countertop. We were surprised by how quiet it is - you can barely hear it and sometimes I forget that it's in use.

The exterior offers an attractive complement to your existing kitchen décor.." I was willing to pay $40 more to get the stainless steel case vs. model # JES1072SHSS which has a stainless steel front and black casing. I received the microwave and the casing is painted gray, has rivets exposed on the top and does not have a flat/finished surface on the sides. Three Best Buy associates couldn't explain the difference in the description and actual appearance, nor why it cost $40 additional. So, I called GE directly. I was told it is intended to be mounted under a cabinet therefore the casing does not have to be finished/flat. They could not explain why it cost $40 more for this version of the microwave versus model # JES1072SHSS which is the same except for the black casing that is smooth and finished on the top and sides. Save your money and buy model # JES1072SHSS if you plan on having a microwave on your counter. "The GE - 0.7 Cu. Ft. Compact Microwave - Stainless steel (Silver)" does not have a stainless steel casing, front only, and is not intended to be used on a counter top.

We are sorry to hear that you were unaware of the differences between microwave Model #JEM3072SHSS and Model #JES1072SHSS. The JEM3072SHSS does offer the option of mounting it under a cabinet using an under-counter-mounting kit so it is designed differently, and thus changes the pricing.
