    Good microwave for moderate usage

    We use the microwave mostly for reheating of small to medium amounts of food, and defrosting. The 1100 watt capability reheats items more quickly than our prior GE spacemaker (800 watts peak) microwave. I haven't tried heating any large items yet, but based on performance so far, I expect it to perform well. The microwave is an attractive stainless steel look, and is fairly compact on the counter top. While we liked the ability of mount the GE spacemaker under the cabinet, this unit does not take up much more room. Aside from something like a large turkey, this microwave should handle most needs.

    I was all set to spring for the larger, more expensive JES1657SMSS when I spotted this in store during Black Friday. The size actually fits our kitchen much better than the larger one, and at literally half the price, this was a no-brainer. Used it for about a month now, and the one noticeable issue is that the door latch gets jammed occasionally, and the door needs to be shut firmly to prevent this from happening. Apart from that, everything else works fine: the microwave is not over-powered, the shortcut menu options fit our needs perfectly, and it gets the job done.

    Compact size with large interior for countertop

    This microwave one is very nice in exterior design and large capacity interior. It fits my countertop nicely. I have found two problems. One is its clock. One day it suddenly did not work properly after using for some days. I had to unplug the microwave oven, and plug in again, then the clock work properly again. The second problem seems to be genenel to all SS appliances that are not fingerprint proof. Thus, it is very easy to see fingerprints all over the SS surface, making it looked a little bit dirty. It runs quietly. I like It.

    This is a very good microwave and I would have given it a 5 star rating but because there is one fault with it. I had my last Microwave 10 years if you can believe that so I got use to the features it had. The feature is seconds. This one you can only use the seconds by 30 at a time. I would prefer to be able to hit 1,2,3, etc. seconds individually (Example: I heat my cats food for 8 seconds so instead of just hitting 8, I have to hit 30 seconds and watch over and stop microwave at 22 seconds it is a perfect size for a counter. And I was able to get it a a very good price along with 4 years protection from Best Buy. The Geek Squad are great people

    Under Powered Microwave

    This unit is surprisingly way under powered. The writing on the buttons is done in a light grey which is very hard to read not to mention very small. I solved that problem with a small flash light I use at night. You have to press hard on the buttons in order to get them to work. The push button to get the door to open is also hard to push as compared to other models. Fingerprints are a continuous problem especially on the door opening button. Do like the 30 second instant start button for coffee warming. The style is of the unit is nice also.

    I had to buy a new microwave as my old one gave up the ghost. I didn't want to spend a lot on a new microwave, but I wanted one with a good amount of room. The GE model fit both of my requirements. I mainly use the microwave to reheat and to cook frozen or refrigerated packaged foods. I've encountered no problems or issues. Fairly easy to use (no real instruction book proved just a one sheet guide). My only disappointment is no back lighting on the control panel which makes it difficult to see the controls in dim lighting.

    I'm giving it only 3 stars because while it has a year warranty when the same model failed after 6 months, GE would not replace it. All they would do is send me a certificate for a rebate (which I have to hope I get!) for the amount of the original purchase price AFTER buying a new GE product. I bought the same model because it fits on my cabinet shelf but had to pay more for this one. Also these show every fingerprint both on the stainless and shiny black surfaces. The only reason I wouldn't recommend is because of the flawed warranty policy

    This microwave is a nice combination of price and functionality. It heats food quite well and also runs quietly (no buzzing, just a normal mild hum). The stainless steel exterior looks fine on my white kitchen counter top, and it's easy to clean. Inside the microwave looks good too: the food is clearly visible from the outside because of the internal light, and the interior of the microwave can be wiped down with a wet cloth easily (again thanks to the light which helps visibility). I feel that I got a great value for my money.

    Follow up review after 9 months. I would give it zero stars if possible. Purchased in November 2016, about 9 months ago. Last week the keypad and display stopped working! It gest less than average use. Only three of us in the house. Its noisy for its size compared to the older/bigger one we replaced. GE products just aren't the same as they used to be. The replacement process thru GE isn't an easy one but at least they have been responsive.

    Popcorn button stinks/no sensor

    All the so called cook buttons that are suppose to sense your food DO NOT. They go out of their way to talk around the fact that all the buttons are just preset my time and that it does not have a sensor to self adjust cooking time or temp/power. Popcorn always under cooked or burnt because as I said before, NO SENSOR. IF ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS SET THE TIME AND GO IT DOES THE MINIMUM JOB BUT IF YOU WANT A SMART UNIT WITH PRESET AUTO COOK OR AUTO DEFROST THAT ACTUALLY ADJUST IT ITSELF BASED ON A SENSOR, FORGET ABOUT IT.

    Very happy with this microwave purchase. It is the perfect size for the shelf above my counter. I like the express cook feature...for straightforward cooking there is only one button to push for setting cook time. Only negative is that the button you must press to open the door is a bit stiff... I had gotten used to our earlier appliance which had a bit easier release. Otherwise I’m perfectly pleased.

    Bought this to replace a larger watt microwave. The ratings and price on this were great. considering it's stainless. I needed a compact model to fit on a shelf , so size was important. It works fine for what we need. (mostly re-heating). It also looks great. My only complaints are that I would prefer the operation dial would be more lit up. Also the buttons are not very sensitive. Often I have to push twice on selection to make it start. That's something that could be corrected without too much cost on future models.

    This microwave really looks good with stainless on all sides. It works well. The downsides are that it is only 950 watts - which makes it unique since most microwaves are 800, 1000 or 1200 watts. It also is a bit loud, but not so much to make it a problem. It also does not have the feature where it will periodically beep until you open the door after the cooking time has finished. Otherwise, it is a very nice oven.

    I had an in store pick up delay for another brand that was comparable and cost more money. I'm actually really glad that it happened because this is one of the best microwaves I've used in years! We primarily use it for warming up beverages and left overs. There are no hot/cold spots, heats in a timely manner and is the most quiet I've ever used in my lifetime. I'm old enough to remember when microwaves first came on the market. lol! great purchase and the price was very affordable.

    I'm sorry but I thought GE would have a better unit for the price. It came out of the box with one leg shorter than the rest, so no matter where I set it on my Formica top counter, it rocks. So I put a little piece of cardboard under short leg and it's all good. The other thing is the door release is not predictable so don't have something in your hand ready to shove in, you may have to set it down to get the door open. Other than that, it works.

    I purchased the microwave looking for a replacement. It was my third purchase after two others with unrelated defects. This microwave is functional, doesn’t heat very fast and not very evenly. The food & drinks get cold faster than I’ve noticed from my previous microwaves. It’s a nice size and has a pleasing appearance. Overall, it is perfect for basic use and plenty of time to reheat, defrost, or cook.

    Just about everytime I use it I have to open the door, unplug it, put whatever inside, close the door & hit start. If I don't do this & just punch in 2 minutes it says FOOD! It's a real pain in the butt! The keypad doesn't light up & it's hard to read. I wanted another one but the guy I was working with at the store wasn't there for a few days & the other guy said I had to purchase this because they special ordered it. I'm not a happy customer!!!!

    Purchased the microwave for my parents as a Christmas gift. They opened the box, plugged it in, and it would not work. They even called the 800 service number and the representative walked them through the set up. Microwave would not work. Now I have to drive 100 miles to get the microwave, return it for another one, drive another 100 miles and give the new one to my parents...and hope it works.

    I performed quite a bit of research before selecting this microwave. Happy with the size and ease of use. I have not played around with some extra features. I would've liked a slightly more powerful machine. Instead, I just adjust to the time required. (We are not talking about a lot of time. We are just spoiled because everything seems so instant.) As long as the buttons / power remain working, I will remain happy. So far, very happy with my choice.

    We just retired a 36 yo Sanyo with this excellent for the money GE. Love the turntable and how evenly it heats. Wish there were a bit more contrast in the non-backlit keypad as it is difficult to read without direct lighting. The film over the keypad appears to be a bit fragile as it has already been compromised over the Start button in the short time we've owned it. For the price, I would recommend it.
