The worst microwave model ever don’t buy it

We purchased this model feb 2018 and it died December 2018. An electrical connector piece under the very top cover completely melted black and smelled like plastic burning because it was. GE honored the warranty and told us they would cover the replacement so having all ge appliances we bought the same microwave again thinking we’d be ok. But not even 6 months later the exact same model had the exact same problem and the connector piece burnt again. Ge knows of the problem and says it just happens and that it won’t start a fire but we feel there should really be some kind of recall on this model. It shouldn’t smell like your house is going to burn down when trying to make popcorn. So again they are replacing our microwave but I will not be doing so with this model. Please do not purchase this microwave it’s the worst model they have. Included photos of each microwave to show it’s the same price failing each time

The connectors on the thermal sensor and the flame sensor melted. The sensors are just fine and the fuse never blew. Also, this failure is not from flame or thermal event. It appears that the turntable mototr is defective and probably was from day one. It should present 130 ohms or resistance to the meter, but instead I get 120 ohms. I'm assuming that is the excess current that metled the connectors but did not blow the fuse. So far, all other devices test to specifications. The 2 sensors must be replaced cannot be reused because the spade connectors were damaged during the removal of the melted connectors The were fused together. My last microwave lasted 10 years and would be here today had the power company not fried every (almost) appliance and electrical device that I had. Even the kitchen range and several light bulbs. The one before that also lasted about 10 years. I didn't plan on posting a review until I saw so many others that experienced that same premature death from apparent poor or inferior parts. I am disappointed as i'm sure is Thomas Edison. Shame shame shame.

Worked fine first 3 months, then a sensor burned out. Store warranty is 90 days but manufacturers is a year but they really do nothing. Followed their procedures and never heard back from them. Sent a service technician but no replacement parts available. Have to file claim then wait for GE to ok for you to buy another then GE will reimburse you for the SECOND oven!

Sure it has decent features you'd expect in a small microwave. It cooks food well, packing 1100 watts of power. The interior light actually comes on when you open the door, something other companies omitted, which is ridiculous, but it all ends right there, unless of course you want to keep buying new microwave ovens every 2 to 6 months. That's right, I purchased 2 brand new microwaves this past year and all failed within that time frame. Trying to get warranty service is a complete joke. First is the dreaded burning smell, then the microwave won't run at all. Also forget trying to figure out the issue, you'll need an expensive screwdriver just to find out what went wrong. I attempted to publish my review of this model on the company's own website, they wouldn't allow it. Obviously they know something is wrong, given the high failure rate!! GE used to stand for something good, not any more.

I am very disappointed that this microwave died on me while under normal use for my family of 4. I had purchased this microwave to replace my old GE microwave that was almost exactly this same model that I had used for over 10years and loved. But the quality was not the same anymore as this microwave's lifespan of 10 months is not the same as my last GE microwave's lifespan of 10+ years. Bummer. Won't buy GE again now and I don't know what brand I will try next but this poor performance made me stay away from GE. Bought my daughter a super cheap Hamilton Beech microwave for her dorm a month after this one and that outlasted this more expensive microwave and probably had heavier use too.

    Disappointing out of the box

My most important purchase considerations were color (white), specific external size, legibility of controls, and quality. From the photo and description on Best Buy, the first three criteria were met. From reviews, quality was questionable. Best Buy told me by phone that there was a unit in my local store. I drove there and waited 45 minutes, only to find that there was nothing there. I then bought the unit at a local store. The control buttons, so legible in the Best Buy picture, were actually dark grey and difficult to read without direct light. (See photo). First use was to heat a cup of coffee, which spilled while turning on the turntable because of a visible and audible stutter in rotation. Back it goes. I'll not get another.

Bought & installed Monday and FRiday it failed to microwave. This would have the the third GE microwave model I've brought in 12 years; only bought them because it fits my build-in microwave trim of my kitchen cabinets. I was willing to live with it if would have lasted 3-4 years. Best Buy was great with the return. I turned around and bought a Panasonic.

I picked up this GE model for our soon to be finished kitchen counter. Unfortunately there was a delay and it didn't get installed for a few weeks. When installed we realized the door didn't open and close properly and the latch is failing. I tried to return it since it had not been used, but was told that was impossible. Customer Service insisted it could only be returned if I had paid extra for Geek Squad insurance. Buyer beware I guess. One would think Best Buy would stand by their new products. I have not purchased anything from Best Buy in a long time. I don't plan to be returning to purchase anything in the future.

Purchased this microwave for an elderly neighbor and was very disappointed to find that power to the keypad went bad exactly three weeks after the warranty ran out. I will purchase her another because I feel it should have lasted longer than it did. Disappointed in GE quality.

I bought this microwave for my retired aunt who lives alone in a small apartment. I only give this information because she uses it like 2-3 times a day, so very minimally. After installation it stopped working 4 months after purchase. We called GE and they said to take it back to BestBuy. When we did Best Buy would not honor the warranty and made us pay for another one. I don't know if I'm more disappointed in Best Buy or GE's terrible craftmanship.

I purchased this microwave because I liked the size and the timer could be used at the same time as cooking. I'd had a GE before that was similar, and it had lasted for years. The first microwave of this model started smelling like the house was burning down -- see the numerous other reviews that mention this. And then it died. I'd only had it for about 6 months, so I went through the GE warranty process. You have to make a claim, then wait for GE to approve it. They will only reimburse you for buying another GE product. And you have to wait for weeks to get the reimbursement after you purchase a new one. This model was the only suitable GE at Best Buy, so I bought it again. I've had it for 10 months. No bad burning smell from this one. Instead, it's turning on all by itself. The only way to turn it off is to pull the plug. The off/cancel button doesn't work. It will not be replaced by anything made by GE.

I loved everything about this microwave. However it stopped working after only 5 months. GE was extremely hard to deal with and it took a very long time to resolve this. They didn’t sound one bit surprised by the very short life of their product. I was given a certificate to replace it with the same model. It lasted 1 1/2 yrs. Fortunately I bought the Best Buy warranty. So beware!

This horrible microwave only lasted me 2 months. Two months!!! I went back to BB and unfortunately I didn’t buy the warranty on a microwave. This was the last time I bought a GE good for two months piece of junk microwave. Don’t buy it. I went back and bought a different brand and I got the warranty. Skip this piece of junk and spend your money on a Panasonic or get the warranty so you can return it in two months when it breaks.

I'm here at Best buy ...again.... A month after the return policy is up. This microwave was a replacement for a GE my family had for 6 years. The quality has gone down hill. The machine didn't last, the motor burned out, and will not be helped by Best buy return policy or manufacturer. I'm switching brands for good and would not suggest.

We got the microwave delivered and it is defective. Makes a huge racket when it is running. Something is wrong , maybe motor. Tried to call BB but never had any one answer phone to describe our issues. Can't take it back. We disputed the charges on our card and will not pay for this.

Purchased microwave from Best Buy online and picked it up from the store on March 6th. On June 6th, it turned off about halfway through heating up my lunch. It was not the outlet (circuit breaker not flipped, and tested outlet with inductive voltage tool to confirm outlet was still functional). It just stopped working after exactly 3 months.

The oven would have been fine except the shipping box had been mashed and when we opened it, there was a dent and a scratch on the top of the oven . We thought maybe it would be okay then when we removed the oven from the box there was a huge dent on the back of the box. We took the box to the store and they said we would have to return it to the store before they would fix the problem. The oven had been placed in to wall so we were told we had until mid-January to return. We are in our 80's and need for our son to return so we can the oven. You all would not replace the oven by bringing a new oven to our home and replacing the old. So now we pray our son to come back to remove it from the wall. The oven is fine, but we were told our Total Tech option did not cover this situation. I guess we'll have to buy a new oven and have it delivered to the store and have them inspect Can you help?
