Warning! Do not purchase this microwave. The numbers and letters on key pad are so light its impossible to see key pad. It is not back lit. I had to have it swapped out which was a waste of time. Why and how its produced this way is idiotic!

I bought the stainless steel version. Primary complaint is the key pad is hard to see (gray on black) so need to memorize the buttons!

Bought this microwave to match my new GE stainless steel gas range. The keypad is not very sensitive but other than that I love it. The last GE microwave I had lasted 20 years!

I am very pleased with this microwave so far. No issues with reheating anything and it is a nice looking model. I do wish the keypad was backlit as you can't see what the buttons are without sufficient light.

One of the quietest microwaves I've ever used. Very good exhaust fan and two levels of lights (nightlight and regular). My only quibble is that the keypad doesn't light up, so keys are difficult to see in dim lighting. Hope it lasts as long as the GE unit it replaced, which went 30 years!

    Some items need attention

Door is really clunky, keypad takes effort to push, loud, no control anymore for the beeper. Do like the fact you can turn off the turntable. Had my other one for over 16 years. Hope this one last as long.

Do not buy this item. The materials made for this microwave doesn't protect the keypad from heat. After having the unit mounted, I ised my stove and immediately noticed an area on the keypad bubble. It's not like I can remove it from the counter and take it back to the store, it's mounted so now I'm stuck with it.

Nice looking microwave. We installed it ourselves and had no problems. Only negative is the words and numbers on the keypad are a little hard to read in a dimly lighted kitchen. It would be nice to have back lighting on the keypad.

This microwave replaced the original builder installed over the range microwave dating from 1998. It was a simple install and everything works great. The keypad is a little harder to press and the door feels a little clunky but this is the base price point. It was on sale for about $160.

Our whirlpool died after 5 years, walked into BB and found this one for a steal on price. Same power as my previous one and color matched our kitchen stuff. Pro: it's very quiet when heating at least compared to my last one. Con: the keypad need to be pressed hard, they are not so sensitive. But overall good microwave and easy install too....

Got to give this a one star. The first one would not light up at all once plugged in (no clock, no lights, no display). I returned and got a second one, the second one would turn on but the interior light would not work and 1/2 of the buttons on the keypad would not work. I returned the second one and have since went with another manufacturer. Best Buy was accommodating with the exchange and return. I am an elite plus member, not sure if that mattered.

    Very Good Value

A very good value for the price. Minor comments re: the keypad. Its layout is a bit counter-intuitive, and one also has to really press the keys (no light touching here) to get them to work. Also, the contrast of the lettering, etc., of the keypad against the background is not strong, making the keypad difficult to read in dim light. In the next iteration of the product, I would strongly encourage the manufacturer to give this aspect of the product more careful attention. Otherwise, the microwave itself works fine.

This microwave works great and takes some practice to use. However! Note: The keypad does NOT have a light behind the pad. Therefore you can NOT use it at night WITHOUT turning on the kitchen lights. Had I had known this! I wouldn't have purchased the item. As you know , products on the showroom are not plugged in and unless asked, the salespeople will not know anything different. Upon discussion with customer service, I was advised I should have NOT purchased a "low end" product. Wonderful reassurance wouldn't you say?

Daily I Want to Smash It with a Sledge Hammer

This microwave is attractive, quiet, heats well, and has all the basic functions we need: hence a Consumer Reports "Best Buy." We bought it to replace a GE Spacesaver that served us well for an impressive 35+ years (RIP). My husband and I work from home and use the microwave all day long. We are not picky; we just need basic features to reheat food and beverages. Despite this microwave's good qualities, I deeply regret buying it. @@@@@@@@ I wish we had simply flushed $200 directly down the toilet and saved all our installation time. @@@@@@@ I'd return it but we are past Best Buy's short 15-day return window. @@@@@@@@ With any luck this one will die within a year as it has for so many other buyers. @@@@@@@ Until then, we are trying to tough it out because we hate to waste our $$ and all our installation time. Multiple times a day I want to smash this microwave with a sledge hammer. Why? We underestimated the ongoing annoyance of the poorly designed keypad and a "done" buzzer that (like a smoke alarm) won't shut off on its own. In particular, I hate that an appliance that was once my slave is now my master. Example: if I heat a beverage and run upstairs, I MUST race back to the kitchen when summoned: otherwise the beeper keeps chirping intermittently--annoying my nearby husband. It does NOT shut off on its own as our previous microwave did. Also, in the past, I was able to use my microwave timer for other tasks---but no more. I had to buy a portable timer so I don't have to keep racing back to the kitchen as summoned by the microwave. In addition, the poorly designed keypad is a constant annoyance. It's hard to read and use because of: 1. the poor color contrast between the button text and background (for us light gray on white) 2. no backlighting and 3. poor button placement. I hate that the most used "Add 30 seconds" is buried in the middle of other less-used buttons like "Turntable." Ideally it should be in the bottom right--easier to find and closer to "Start." I tried to adjust to the layout for several weeks. But in the end I got tired of scanning and just put bright stickers by the most needed buttons. @@@@@@@@ And yes, it's not fashionable to have bright stickers on your microwave. But it works--whereas the keypad layout doesn't. @@@@@@@ The first rule of design is that Form should follow Function. . and that doesn't happen with this microwave. As Randy Pausch taught his students (by destroying an annoying VCR with a sledgehammer on his first day of class): When you "make something hard to use, people get upset. They become so angry that they want to destroy it. We don't want to create things that people will want to destroy." And that is precisely what GE has done with this microwave. It's too bad that such a nice microwave is spoiled by a poor user interface: but it's. And for that reason, I give it a single star.
