I'm very happy with this air conditioning unit. Super easy to install. Keeps my medium size bedroom very cool and I haven't even cranked this box up to its full potential. It was like $350 after taxes. I declined the extended warranty however I have 14 days to think about it so that's good. I like the dedicated digital display remote control. The only thing I don't like is the vent placement but that's ok because it still gets the job done. I was very satisfied with the customer service. This was a best buy in my experience. Best but has gotten better now in my opinion.

Purchased this for $269.99 and it’s $369.99 about 2 weeks later. Unit box had enough damage you can see the broken styrofoam in multiple places. The 2 window kit parts chipped and cracked on corners - but wasn’t an issue because I planned on enhancing the window installment (suggest you look into that for better quality). Wanted to get another one but seen the inflated price. The sound decibels are loud (suggest you make a diy sound barrier) and the vibration is easily noticed depending on the floor (suggest you make a diy absorbing blanket). Do your research before purchase.

Works perfectly as described. However it says 64’ degrees but it does NOT feel like it... it doesn’t cool the room that much, it helps but not the best. I would say $299 is fair for the price of this air conditioner

loud at night but bearable as all ac thingy...does the job. Takes a while to cool a 150 sq ft room. Needs fan at the front to feel the cool air. If you really want cold room buy the a real window type ac and not the portable ones. All in all its ok.

Bought this in August and have only been able to use it for 5 days! The unit stopped working and won't turn back on regardless of following troubleshooting instructions. I have contacted GE support via email which they've responded requesting information from me and I have provided that but no response back from them. Followed up with them a few days ago and still no response. The hose also doesn't lock into the window attachments they provide. Ive contacted their support and they insisted that it does. Well, it doesn't and I have to use duct tape to make sure that the hose stays connected. If not, it falls rights off. Stay away from purchasing this unit if you don't want to lose $350!!

GE specs are wrong-not for windows btwn 20" to 30"

I have a 27" window, and the specs are way off. It will fit a 20" window, maybe a little bigger with some foam, but if you need to use the extension, your window needs to be over 30" or the hose won't fit into the window panel. See picture of my 27" window - he extension is blocking the hose window, and the hose won't lock in. Even if it did lock in, air-flow would be obstructed. I think there might also be a similar problem with windows in the 35"-39" range, because the second extension could also block the hose. I'm still trying to sort it out, but I'm running against dead ends trying to get an easy workaround or return. If BB lets me update this, I will if the problem is resolved, But be forewarned.

Great For Small Outdoor Home Office ...

... but do your research vs. in-wall or window unit. The unit is nicely designed, has a convenient remote control, and quickly cools a ~100 sq. ft. room. After a month of intermittent use in Northern CA, it is a great thing to have during a heat wave. While this A/C certainly does the job of cooling my small office that is outside of the house (and heavily insulated), the only drawback of this or any single-hose portable A/C unit is that it creates a vacuum in a sealed space. This is due to the way it gets recovery air to cool the condenser and blow the colder air. When used in a room in a larger space like a house, this might not be as noticeable, but it will still draw in interior air and expel some of it outside, creating a net negative flow of air. If my office could accommodate a window unit, I would have opted for that instead (and those are typically cheaper). Overall, so far so good and should continue to be a good appliance to have as temperatures continue to rise.

It is loud but that’s to be expected with any ac unit really. It’s easy to set up. Only used it one night in my small bedroom but it definitely kept me cool while the house I live in stays warm. The window set up sucks! I feel paying $360 (with tax) Should come with a better window set up. Flimsy plastic that doesn’t fit well. I’m going to the hardware store to have them cut out wood to fit the window properly so bugs don’t get in or air get out.

    Nice Portable AC

Bought this portable AC to avoid the hassle of installing a window unit. The GE Portable AC has a clean, professional look and the functionality is great. The controls are intuitive and the remote works well. The output is very strong and will cool a bedroom effectively. My only issue is the location of the water drain. I would prefer to have a removable container for the water vice a drain that requires lifting the AC from the floor and using a shallow pan. The unit does have an internal tank that does take awhile to fill, but that tank must be drained vice removed and dumped. Overall, I am very pleased.

Needed an AC for my living room. I wanted a portable model as I live on the 1st floor and wanted to be able to take the vent out of the window and lock it while away. I did some research and this unit seemed to fit my needs. It is a new model so there wasn't a ton of reviews. The unit was easy to install and works well. It cools off the living room and makes it very comfortable especially with the ceiling fan on. It does not make it penguin cold but makes it very comfortable during very hot days when it was previously unbearable. The unit it well made and is good looking. I got it on sale for $320 so i was happy I took a chance on this unit. So far so good. I am happy.

This cooler has been perfect for me. It has a pleasant design and is a nice size and Runs perfectly. The remote control is nice snd works well. Would be nice if the remote were lighted for night time and though cooler isn’t very loud we have a small room and I shut it off sometimes because it is a bit loud if you are right next to it. But overall i am very glad I purchased it! Very good product and best buy made it so convenient to pick up.

First thing to note is that the Best Buy listing shows this as max 300 sq feet but the box and GE website actually says max 250 sq feet. I didn't notice this until I brought it home. I was a little concerned that it was too small for my 250 sq feet room in the basement since it was on the upper edge. It works great and cools the very hot room within 15 minutes. There are a few things that are less than ideal. I have several other portable A/Cs in the house. I never screw in the outlet hoses since I also want the option of opening the window. In this case, the outlet hose kept falling out so I had to screw it in. Now I can't open the window. There is an unmarked light next to the power button that is lit when the A/C is off and off when the A/C is on. Not a complaint, just a little strange. Finally, the number indicator shows the actual room temperature when the unit is off but only shows the set temperature when the unit is on. I'd like both. Show the set temperature for a few seconds when pressing the +/- buttons and show the actually temperature the rest of the time. Overall, works very well and highly recommended.

We purchased the GE Portable air conditioner to tide us over while waiting ten days for our home HVAC system to be replaced. We set the unit up in a small bedroom in our home so that we would have a comfortable place to sleep and a cool respite during the hot and humid August days. The unit did what it was supposed to do: cool down a room of about 250 square feet with no muss or fuss. Controls were mostly easy to understand, and the remote that came with the unit was a handy extra. The big minus with this unit was installing the exhaust duct to an outside window. GE provided three plastic pieces that could fit together to supposedly fit any window up to 42 inches. Well, with my 38 inch wide window, two of the plastic pieces weren’t enough, and three were too many (they blocked the hole where the end of the exhaust duct was supposed to snap in). I finally had to use two panels and a piece of packing foam to wedge the the exhaust duct bracket into the window. I also had to buy and install weather stripping to assure a tight seal between the top of the bracket and the bottom of the window, something that was not indicated in the description for the unit. I also had to tape the exhaust duct to the bracket.

GE portable air conditioner was Purchased due to portability and as back up for the upper room that central AC can’t cool down due to window is facing south and exposed more to sunlight this summer, good for a small room, turn off if desired temperature is reached, just a little loud and takes a while to cool a small room (less than 300 sq ft)

Heat wave hit CA and BB was one of a few stores to have any of these portable AC’s available. Small unit, still a bit noisy. Heat duct is huge and not very flexible. Air direction is only up and down, which is a little wacky (why not a L&R?) remote is snappy++ and works from a long distance. Great for a small room, it will struggle in a med to large room, especially when temps hit 100+

    Solid AC Unit

This is the only portable A/C unit I've had so I don't know how it fares vs others. So the 4/5 rating is based on general impressions. This is a solid portable A/C unit. These devices are almost by design not very efficient at cooling. But this has done a more than admiral job at keeping our infant son's room cool during a historic heat wave. It was a decent price and works much better than I expected. The windows in our apartment are oriented vertically (slide sideways) so we have very tall openings. The attached window mount nearly covered the entire opening and it wasn't terrible hacking together a way to cover up the remainder of the window - this might be one shortcoming of the device but it's understandable. My only other gripe would be that its noise has a rather harsh element to it, particularly when it's working hard (like if it's 98F outside and you're trying to make it 77 inside). I don't know that that's avoidable (I might powder coat a few select parts to make them rattle at more acceptable frequencies, but that's just me). When you're trying to get an infant to sleep any harsh noises cause a lot of stress. But it otherwise sounds fine. The fan settings are ok, not great. I have some other fans that move air better. I'd certainly recommend someone buy this. If you're undecided and just want to buy wants affordable and available, this is a good choice.
