    It’s great for smaller spaces

I love the remote- it’s great for a small space. It didn’t do terrible in a larger room- and that room was a previous attic and very hot before this unit was used. Daily, it’s in a smaller space and more than does the trick! I only made this four stars because I don’t love the window attachment. It doesn’t fit perfectly in a standard window so air escapes.

Great portable A/C. Blows cold air, good functionality and easy to move (with wheels). Heavy unit and window attachment is a bit flimsy. Otherwise, great purchase!

I was going a little crazy in my apartment with no air conditioning the previous summer when a brutal heat wave hit the city, and decided to bite the bullet and purchase a portable AC unit. It was a great decision. I purchased this GE unit to cool my small bedroom at night so I could finally sleep in comfort. It's a bit large (though I'm not sure you can do much better with what's available today). It's a bit loud (but again, that's understandable). The biggest challenge for me was attaching the vent to my window (which is vertical and small, not horizontal like the vent is designed for). I got creative using cardboard and packaging tape to get it on the window. It's not the best looking solution, but it works. Overall, this unit has performed well and I'm grateful to have it on hand when the next heat wave comes.

If you need a portable AC unit for my office. This is great.......so long as your phone or computer microphone is nowhere near it. It is powerful enough for my 200+ square foot office, it has many settings (I've only ever needed to use the lowest fan speed - it's been more than enough), and it goes on and off at the right times based on room temperature. It is just loud when it goes on. I would still highly recommend it, but just try to keep your office set up as far away as possible (or don't be on the phone when it is on).

Bought this air conditioner fro my elderly parents when their old window unit stopped working in the middle of a heat wave. What a great purchase! They love that they can roll it easily from room to room when they want to, and that it is reasonably sized and fairly attractive. And it works! They reported a nicely cooled first floor of their home within half an hour of unboxing the unit. Now planning to buy one for myself....

The purpose of my purchase is to have a portable AC to cool my 11 x 12 bedroom turned home office. I have purchased this due to brand name. Pros: - The room can sufficiently cool the bedroom, but takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour to achieve 71 degrees temperature. - The remote is easy to use interfaces are easy to understand. - Everthing else (such as features) is standard to most other portable A/C units. Cons: - This compressor noise on this machine is very noisey. It sounded like a small gas electric generator and is close to 70 decibles. - The hose is very flimsey and could tear by accident if some force is used. - Window bracket has opening set to the middle, while the instructions have the window bracket set to one side. This makes it terrible for certain window configurations. Summary: I avoid this product and spend the extra money on another brand. This noise alone should be the return not to purchase this product. I do not think I could sleep with the air generator noise.

This arrived quickly and set up was easy. The inserts that are put on to help keep your open window from being exposed to outside were not long enough to go to the top. I used cardboard to help with that. It did state in the instructions to use the included foam seal, but there wasn't any in the package. I contacted GE and they looked into it and said the instructions were wrong, there wasn't any foam seal included. It helps to cool my living room area, even in the extreme heat. It is noisy, but I will take noisy any day over too hot! It's easy to navigate too.

Very simple but nicely designed. Has up and down timer. I leave on for my dog when I leave for work and then it goes off after a few hours on its own. Cools down the room very well. I also use a small fan to help circulate the cool air. Does not take up a lot of space. Reasonably quiet.

Purchase this portable air conditioner when my AC went out. This keeps my room so cool I have it at the lowest setting. Easy to clean, love that has a remote, and bought another one for another room in the house.

Great, cool! Added a Cool-Aide because of hot tube

    Posted .

Great machine: it is nice, white and clean. The only issue -- the tube was really hot which heats up the room. I got a Cool-Aide and that took care of it (see the photo of the tube insulator attached). The tube went from 120 degrees down to 80 degrees, which increased the rate of cooling It is a good product and keeps the room cool. Love how quiet this machine is!!!

I recently was about to go through a extended and extreme heatwave and I knew I was going to be suffering for days because my room is like a oven. I didn't want to wait and risk every store selling out of air conditioning units so I took action and picked this model because it was the right price for my budget at the moment. I live in a larger than normal bedroom with very high ceilings and 4 skylights that the sun uses to heats up the room so I didn't have the greatest belief in its ability to cool the room down very well. I feel now that I have used it in many different conditions that it does well most of the time. The only time I feel like it doesn't work very well is when it is extremely hot already in the room and I then turn it on and try to cool down the room it takes a long time to make a difference. If I know that it is going to be hot I turn it on low when I leave for work and it is nice and cool when I get back home. Best for a normal to small room.

I was worried after reading the other reviews, some said it was really noisy, some said it didn’t cool like they thought it would. I’m pleased to say we are delighted with our new GE portable air conditioner. We have a finished attic we use as an office, really nice room, it’s around 300 square feet and it heats just fine, even though we have central air it does not cool very well when it’s hot outside. I’m not easily impressed, the sound it makes is almost pleasing and it cools the room beautifully without having to blast it, It’s thermostatically controlled, we leave it on 72 degrees with the medium fan, AWESOME!

The air conditioner itself is great , get my living room nice and cold and doesn’t seem too loud . But the window insert is just god awful , the extensions for it to fit in your window literally get in the way of the exhaust hose so you have to cut them , luckily I have a sawzall but I’m sure most people don’t want to cut something they just bought

Very quiet and easy installation. I recommend this product for small rooms less than 250 sqft. I do however wish it was wifi capable so to control from the phone. Since the device is in my daughter's room many times it running all day even when no one is in the room and I wish I could shut it off remotely to save energy.

This is a compact unit which cooled our entire bedroom (about 15'by 20") beautifully. It works quickly and efficiently. The compressor is a bit noisy but it worked as white noise for me!

AC went out a few weeks ago during 90+ degree heat wave. It worked great. I'm not sure what all the complaints and bad reviews are about. Follow the instructions and recommendations. It probably won't cool your whole apartment to 65 degrees in summer, like one review I read, but if you're reasonable and keep your temps at 72-74 while it's 90+ outside you should be fine. As long as it's within range of the recommended square footage. One thing I found helpful- wrap the exhaust hose with insulation because it gets hot. I used reflective bubble wrap. As far as noise, it's not bad and I'm a light sleeper.

Needed a portable A/C to use for a few days during a recent hot spell when my central A/C went out and needed replaced. Luckily, I found one of these in stock at my local Best Buy. Within a half hour of getting it home, it was up and running. As others have said, the exhaust hose and window kit could be a bit more flexible and better made. But this thing, along with a small window unit I have in one room, was able to cool a 1,000 sq. ft. house from 81° to 73° in about an hour, on a day when it was about 90° outside. Very impressive! Noise level isn’t bad at all and on par with a window A/C.

I wanted to wait a month or two after I got this so i could write an honest review. This has turned out to be one of the best purchases I've ever made. My bedroom is a single room upstairs and it has it's own thermostat but the ceiling is high so it was getting dreadfully hot mid day and the central a/c just was not cutting it. I did some research and ultimately decided on this GE one. It has been a life saver and now me and my dog are staying nice and cool during these hot months! 10/10. It is heavy as heck though, just so you know!
