If you never have a pot that boils over, or a lid that drips condensation, you’ll love this stovetop…because the burners shut themselves off when anything you’re cooking splashes or drips. If your fingers are always a perfect 98.6°F and you never set a spatula or spoon down on your stovetop while you cook, you will love this appliance…because the power sensors are insanely touchy and won’t work if your hands are cold or if a spoon, pot lid, spatula, etc is also touching the surface. This cooktop is incredibly aggravating to use and makes cooking a chore. GE customer service refuses to acknowledge the issues and instead refers us back to the user’s manual which is not at all helpful. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.

Do not like that there is only one large burner. Also fo not like the placement of the burners, but the Best Buy team came out and talks you into going with the same brand for size and guaranteed fit. Only 2 choices .. not thrilled .. but it works ok.

The stainless steel around the glass cooktop makes it look more outstanding. The heating elements are quite fast and responsive. It does get stained easily and requires cleaning, I use Weiman Cleaner & Polish to keep it clean and grease free.

The range top is fine, but the salesman leaves a lot to be desired. When the Tech arrived to install the range top he advised me that our cutout was to big and that he would have to order a kit to make it fit. That was the last I have heard from him. I advised the salesman of the problem and he assured me that he would get back to me. I have not heard from him either! WHAT SERVICE!!!!!

After a lot of research and influenced by the sale price, a "guarantee to fit" promotion, and reviews, we bought the GE Cooktop to replace an old JennAir that came with the house. The best features are the large burner Power Boil and the sleek look. Performance, however, is average - we have found the controls difficult to see and they inadvertently turn on if grazed. The surface is difficult to keep clean even with daily application of a cooktop cleaner. However, our major complaint is with GE and their "guarantee to fit" promotion incentive. After contacting GE prior to buying the cooktop to clarify that we would qualify for the guarantee with a minor modification (which they allow in the promotion), they refused to honor the guarantee. The cut-out in the formica countertop for the JennAir was slightly wider than the GE cooktop - length was adequate, but the installation would leave a gap on two sides. We were assured on a call to GE that it could be made to fit. The $100 incentive was the promotion offer to help defray some of the cost of a modification. A GE Trim Kit was suggested but we explained it was too small, so we had to have a custom kit made. After the cooktop was installed (by Best Buy), and the trim kit was added, we submitted the rebate form to GE with all the pertinent details and documentation including before and after photos. GE reneged on the incentive. We met all the requirements as defined in the literature and advertising, had the prior discussion with a rep, and submitted detailed information as required. A subsequent phone call and discussion with a customer service supervisor did nothing. Overall a disappointing purchase and experience with the manufacturer.

Terrible choice - don't even think about buying it

Big disappointment! In general it is better than the coil electric stovetop I had, though the old one cooked better, This one is easier to clean and looks nicer, but functionality it terrible. The digital controls are hit and miss - sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. I thought by getting digital it would mean that I could learn what number setting worked for different cooking temps, but it isn't consistent, so that was a fail. Putting it on 4 might take it 5 minutes before anything sizzles, or it might burn something. I cannot recommend this to anyone. Also, we bought a weekend place that has a whirlpool glass cooktop. It is wonderful!! It cooks the way you would expect. When you turn on the heat, it heats! It is not digital, and I don't think I will ever choose digital again. Oh and the spacing of this one is not very usable. I don't know why I chose it - stupid of me. AND, if you set anything on the cooktop, beware! I can try over and over to get my finger to turn on a burner and it won't, but by golly, when I set something down for a minute while I'm moving something, it turns on a burner and is in danger of burning down the house.

I also purchased this unit to fit an existing cooktop cutout for a GE cooktop which failed after many years of good service. This unit works well and the elements heat up fast.

Bad burner arrangement, very sensitive controls

    Posted .

Two big complaints about this cooktop. One is the arrangement of the burners: they're too close together in several spots. It's very easy to have two pans pushing each other out of good alignment with the burners, and there's lots of wasted space. It's almost impossible to use all four burners and often very difficult to use three. The second is the controls. They are waaaay too sensitive. Every time you put something down on them, things start beeping at you and wanting to turn on. My previous flattop cooker required slightly more effort to activate the buttons and didn't go off so often. It's pretty, it heats well, it gets the job done, but I will not buy a cooktop with this arrangement of burners again.

Just beyond 15 days installed and broken

We received the item and my husband installed it. Within 3 weeks one of the burners says that it is hot and will not turn on. Waited for spouse to get back to see what is wrong with it. Now beyond 15 days and only reason I do not have to go through manufacturer is because we are elite members. Even with that I am getting the run around from the store, the 800 # and the geek squad whose English is so bad I cannot understand her and finally hung up. What a mess!
