Had this ac unit for only one year and it is loud af plus it leaks water out the back and front leaving my floor wet in the house. It was installed correctly at a tilt and still leaks out the front out of the filter area very dissatisfied with this particular ac it is the worst one i have ever dealt with here in Hawaii.

Works great, but "smart home integration" doesn't even allow you to set the temperature... SmartHQ App is decent, but its still and island compared to other "smart home integrated" products that actually allow you to control the product from Google Home app or Apple Homekit etc. Recommended, but only if you don't care about the "Smart home" aspect. Low rating for me, is because this was an important feature for us that did not work at all.

I just bought this may of 2021. No issues until. Last few weeks of September of using it. It started to spit water out of the vents. Removed it today. 10/25/21. To store away for the season. The entire bottom of pan and bottom of coils are COMPLETELY RUTED. So its safe to say it’ll be ruined until next year. Have no clue as to why it held so much water. Had the tilt required. So that scratches that possibility out. Also probably the reason it started to spit water out of the vents last few weeks of use. Prior to this unit i had an older ge 8000 btu. With the slinger ring. Same window. No issues with water ponding in the unit nor drainage.

I haven’t had a window unit in quite some time. However, the house I now live in has one room that just can’t maintain temperature due to the equipment in it. Though, still as heavy as I remember them, I was surprised at just how small it was. There is some assembly required, such as screwing on the top mounting rail and attaching the side curtains, but pretty simple. Shortly after getting it fitted into the window we had it powered on and chilling the room. You can manage with the buttons on the front panel, with the included remote with braille, or with the Comfort GE appliance app. The app guides you through connecting the appliance to your WiFi. Once set you can now check the status of the unit from anywhere, change the settings and monitor its power usage. You can also set routines such as setting on/off times for times per day or enable location assist where it will change state when you leave the area. I do wish you could have an external thermostat with it, especially since it can connect to WiFi, as there were times that it felt warmer than what the thermostat was reading which meant it took a little longer for the AC to kick on. But, when it does kick on, it is quick to drop the room temp. One of the advertising points is air direction control, the fins that are used in this to “direct” the air are smaller than the ones in my car vents. It doesn’t really direct the air. However, the fan does push a fair amount of air for circulation though. Overall, it is working as I expect it to while providing smart features for monitor and control.

First off I'm a tech person I love being able to control everything from my phone or by one remote. With this AC being controllable by WiFi there's no more searching for the remote or getting up to change the temperature. Another cool thing .. no pun intended lol .. about this AC is that when you're away for the day at work or vacation for whatever reason, you don't have to run the AC the entire time to have it cool once you return home. You can simply hop on your phone 15-20 more before you get home and by the time you arrive that room will be cool as a cucumber! Another feature I like about this AC is the actual words light up so you can see what mode, speed, and all is currently selected unlike most with the words are solid and there's just a illuminated mark beside the word making it hard to see at night. Another thing that sets this apart from any other AC I've purchased is all of the foam and inserts included to make sure your window and seal is air tight, no bugs coming in there! Makes this super easy to setup. The sound isn't too bad but in a small room if you have this on the highest setting it really kicks up a bit. It drops the temperature quickly though I have it in a larger than suggested and it still cooled it with ease. The app was easy to use and the feature was a selling point for me. Would highly recommend this to others

With summer right around the corner, the time has come to install a window AC unit. I normally use one in my warmest room to augment my central cooling system. This year I'm testing the new GE 8000BTU smart window air conditioner.  Inside the box was everything I needed for a safe and well insulated install. With the exception of a second set of hands and some wood to get the right pitch for my storm windows. When it comes to performance, this AC works great. I was happy to hear it was not too loud and when I turned it on, it immediately started cooling without a delay. I was also glad to see it came with an actual remote control and didn't just rely on the smart functionality. As for the smart features, I was able to use the app to join it to my WIFI network, set cooling schedules, change the temperature on the fly, adjust fan speed and see how much power it was using. I was also able to join it my smart home hub which allowed me to make similar changes using my google assistant. For the most part, all the smart features worked great. Any changes I made to settings or temperature were performed quickly. Normally, within a second or two of me changing them. The only issue I had was that at times the smart functions were a little buggy or unresponsive. However, since this is a brand spankin' new product, i'm sure it will be corrected in an update. With all that being said, I am very happy with this air conditioner and I definitely would recommend it.

Easy to use and install smart air conditioner

The GE Smart Window air conditioner “upgrades” the traditional run-of-the-mill appliance with a flair of intelligence by changing the way we interact and control it. The core air conditioner is a robust, minimalist design that I hope still adheres to the reliability record of GE appliances. Installation was easy and straight-forward, and all the mounting accessories are already provided in the box. You the the traditional accordion-like side curtains to cover the sides, and the window drops down on the mounting rail. There’s some foam seals provided for the windows edges/sides. The only issue I faced is that due to the height on my bottom window rail, I couldn’t use the side brackets provided to secure the unit to my window - this was a not a very major issue as my window opens out to my balcony so there’s not a big chance of the air conditioner falling down. I just measured the mounting holes and got some new L-brackets from the local hardware store, and the issue went away. I’m guessing most of the windows won’t have this issue, but my advice is read the installation manual and measure all the stuff before you start installing. The air conditioner itself has the generic functionality - 3 fan speeds with auto function, there’s an eco mode for reduced power consumption etc - in essence just regular stuff. What sets the smart a/c apart is that besides the included remote controller, there are two more ways you can control the unit. There’s the GE Appliances ‘Comfort’ smartphone app, and there’s the integration with voice assistants (Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa). Using the smartphone app, you can hook up the air conditioner with your WiFi and then use the app itself to control the unit, as well as schedule it using some routines. The setting up is not very difficult - the app (I only have an Android smartphone so don’t know about iOS app) guides you all the way, but you need the password of the unit so be sure to take a picture of the information placard located at the side of the unit, as sometimes they may become obscured by the side curtains. The app itself is not the most polished/sleek looking one - it has more of a utilitarian and industrial looking design, and though it gets the job done, the UI is not very pleasant from a design and aesthetic point of view. I faced some difficulty in adding the device to my Google Home assistant. There’s some absence of clear information/directions in the provided booklets and even in the GE website, and I had to get support for using this feature. But in essence the process is easy as pie - you just need to add the device though the GE ‘Smart HQ’ system, the Google Home discovers your air conditioner, and voila you can now control it using voice commands like: ‘Turn on the air conditioner’, ‘set temperature to xyz’, etc. If you are used to Google Home commands for smart appliances it won’t be a surprise how easy it is. I saw that Amazon Alexa is also supported, but I haven’t used that platform for this particular a/c. Now for the actual function of the product - cooling. The unit is a 8000 BTU unit that’s rated to cover a 350 square-feet room, and from what I have seen it was adequately cooling as desired. Given that I have yet to see very hot days in the ever cloudy Pacific NorthWest where I’m located, on a couple of rare sunny warm days, it was able to cool the almost 350+ sq ft. living room with relative ease. All in all, I’m extremely satisfied with the product. My only gripes is that I had to go through some additional hoops to: i. get it secured due to the small bracket provided, ii. to get it hooked up to my Google Assistant, and iii. I wish the Android smartphone app was more polished. Other than that I think this is a great product that does it’s job well, and the smart control features are really helpful once set up.

Incredibly easy to install along with a handy app

I'll start by saying that this is my first window air conditioner I've ever had. My biggest concern before getting it was how difficult the installation would be. I envisioned having to make some kind of brace or major work since I know these units can be quite heavy. But with this unit, installation was a breeze. In fact, the installation was surprisingly easy. It probably took me less than a minute to get it sitting in the window (as pictured). It actually took me longer to figure out how to remove my window screen. Add in some time to get all the insulation strips put on and a few securing brackets and this unit can easily be installed in less than 10 minutes. Speaking of the insulation strips, this unit has enough to cover all the spots opened up by having an open window. And the instructions are quite clear on where you need them, including places I hadn't thought of where air leaks could happen. Once installed, I plugged the unit in and ... didn't touch it or even turn it on. Why? because I wanted to try out the GE Appliance Comfort app! First I installed the app on my android phone, opened it up and created an account. Opened the app back up and followed the steps to adding an appliance. This process couldn't be much simpler. Just press the Wifi button on the unit, find it in the wifi network, type in the password found on a label on the side of the unit, connect to the unit, tell it which home network to connect to, and you're done. The A/C unit showed up in my list of appliances, I clicked it and the control panel popped up. I hit the power button shown in the app on my phone, and my window A/C unit instantly kicked on. It was really that easy. Just 15 minutes to install the unit, setup the app, get connected and have it running and the only button I touched on the unit itself was to turn on the wifi. I'm not kidding when I say it took me longer to figure out how to remove the screen on my window lol. The controls on the app are simple and very intuitive too. You don't have to be a techie to figure out how to use it. One thing I found in the app which I think is one of the coolest (no pun intended) features is that it shows you the electricity usage of the appliance. This feature alone makes getting the app worth it. Back to the unit itself, because the main purpose of it is to cool a room, and it does so very well. I first tried it at the lowest setting and the air was ICE COLD and cooled the room down fast. Then I set the thermostat on it to keep it at my specified temp, and it does exactly that. As far as noise is concerned, it's what I expect out of window A/C unit. It's not exactly quiet, but I've never seen one that was and I'm sure is a limitation of what it is. Still, I give this unit a definite 5 out of 5. It works great, and the install couldn't be any easier. The app is an especially nice bonus along with being able to control it from anywhere using your phone. However I'd only rate the app itself a 4 out of 5. But since you don't actually NEED the app to use the unit, that still gets a 5 out of 5. The biggest detractor to the app is that when you set the A/C unit through it, if it fails, there's no warning or message saying so. There were a couple times using it that the unit had trouble staying connected to my home network because my router is so far away. When I put in the new settings and hit 'SET' on the app, everything looked fine and it showed the A/C with the newly adjusted settings. But then after a few minutes I noticed that the settings it was showing reverted back to its old ones. I'm guessing this was because of the network connection, but I have no way of knowing since the app doesn't report anything. One last thing, with as easy as it is to install this unit, moving it around couldn't be any easier either, so you're not tied in to having it in just one spot. Now I just need to bust a hole in my garage wall so that I can work on my car in a cooled garage during the summer heat!

After the first hot day this spring, I searched online for an AC unit I could put in my living room. I had an old unit that was not energy efficient, and thus I didn't use it very often, for fear of a super high electric bill. I wanted to make sure whatever I purchased was energy efficient, and had an ECO mode, in addition to being powerful enough to cool my living room. This has done the trick, and I'm really impressed with the wifi feature, as well! I have never had a smart appliance before, and other reviews made it seem like setting up or using the app might be challenging. However, I found it all to be really straight forward! For the size of this unit, its features, and the price, I'm incredibly happy with my purchase. The curbside pick up process was also incredible! The team at Best Buy in Watertown, MA were quick, efficient, and friendly.

Worked as expexted - But broke in 3 years

We purchased this AC exactly 3 years ago to the day. Worked fine for us for 2.5 summers, but plugged it in today for the first time this year, and it won't turn on. I know it's not state of the art technology, but something simple like this should not break so quickly. Still in perfect conditon - no bangs, solidly installed, and only gets used for a few hours maybe 15-20 days in a year. But nonetheless has given out - Dissappointed in the quality. For the two years that it did work, it was small enough to fit in our smaller windows, but powerful enough to cool our 400sqft-ish space enough to be bearable. Works as well as any other window unit (fair) and was not distractingly loud or ugly. Wish it lasted longer, as I don’t really want to be buying a new ac after using this so sparingly. Will echo other commenters that mention that light comes through the back of the unit, but that doesnt bother us. We didn't use this enough for the app to be worth it - fwiw
