Does not actively read air temperature. I know this is not a bug because I have two of these units and they have the same problem. You set the unit to maintain a target temperature, and at first it cools the room as expected and goes to sleep once the target is hit. Problem is, it never wakes up again, no matter how hot the room gets. I know the unit isn't off because it's still reporting a current room temp—just not the real current room temp. What it's reporting is whatever the temperature was when it last cooled the room! It will say the room is still 75°F when it has actually gone up to 85°F and we are sweating buckets. I have read the manual front-to-back. This is not a user error. There is some serious design flaw that basically makes this a manual-only unit that WILL NOT hold a temperature automatically once set. If you manually turn it off and on again, or switch modes, or reset the target temp low enough to turn on the fan and cooling functions again, it will suddenly start reading the real temperature and work towards the target temp—but it WILL NOT DO THIS AUTOMATICALLY WITHOUT MANUAL INTERVENTION. Completely useless.

This is my first smart window air conditioner. This 8,000 BTU GE Smart AC is sleek. At this size it projects to cool an area of 350 ft. I cannot disagree. I think it clearly cools the defined area and beyond. The AC is in a compact window size and has a touch keypad front panel. The set-up of the AC itself is typical to all AC set-up methods. The rail is attached by the consumer and the side panels are then put in place. GE gives you these foam pads that you use to 'insulate' the accordion side panels. That is a bit odd, because I am not quite sure how I am going to be able to remove the side accordion panels without damage to the foam pads going forward. I guess I won't know that part until the end of the season. The fastening brackets are in the package and install easily. Foam gaskets are also provided and work well. The AC runs very quietly compared to other window ACs that I have owned. The fan /compressor sequence runs flawlessly which means energy savings for you. There are multiple fan speeds as well. This AC has a sleep mode and an eco mode as well. The unit has a remote control that is pretty standard. I see me using the app more than the remote control. The smart ac app (Comfort GE Appliances) connected smoothly. You need to get password information from a sticker on the AC and then go ahead and download the app and input the information and connect to the internet. I set an on/off schedule to test the unit and it worked very well. The app has some cool features. You can set a schedule, you can see usage information, you can set up routines based on your phone being home or not home. Further, you get weather information and you can even set a reminder to clean the filter. The app worked well for me. I am looking forward to interacting with it all Summer. My only complaint with this AC is the same complaint I have with nearly all window ACs these days. Why no guard on the AC to protect the fins from getting damaged? It is virtually impossible for your hands to NOT bend some of those fins. I would pay a few dollars more for a fin protection guard. Having said that I think GE has a hit with this smart AC and I am looking forward to using it for many years to come.

DO NOT I repeat DO NOT waste your money on this junk. Purchased this a/c on 7/7/22 for it to breakdown 9/5/22. Ge does not have what's needed to repair this ac and will only service this ac or give you a Goodwill certificate. Value to whatever amount you spend again on Ge product. So you lose all your hard earned money in the end.

great product for the value and for what i am using it for

Stay away from this product. A month and a week it stop working. Check online for possible causes and turns out the main panel gets moist for the weather and burns itself. Now am out of 300$ and cant return it. GE makes poor quality products. Now i have to wait for a week long till a technitian comes jome and takes a look at it

Cool the room fine, but it's very noisy. Would probably get a different brand next time.

Stop working after 63 days. Then best buy wouldn’t honor protection plan. They wanted me to work with GE. I don’t pay for insurance to be referred to the manufacturer.

Honestly, it is kind of loud and makes a funny water leak kind of sound every now and again lol, it doesn't leak but sounds like it.
