Had to increase setting. Had to select frozen when bread slices aren't frozen. Then one day, it overheats pretty badly and does not toast the bread, and now will not stay down. Replace every 2 years required. At least its not as bad as the hamilton beach one.

I'm not sure what is uses to decide it's done toasting. With no changes to the doneness setting, some days it toasts more, some days less. The bagel setting does nothing, or at least, so close to nothing it might as well not be there at all. It should reduce the heat on the crust side of the bagel, but the toaster burns that side just as much on bagel setting as it does on no-frills regular toasting setting. On the plus side, the latches latch the toast down, the slots are fairly wide (but not quite wide enough for a brioche hamburger but without some mangling/damage), and the cancel button does pop things up. Overall, I think I need to fix the toast-down latches on my old toaster -- that toaster actually knew how to toast a bagel.

Read the earlier reviews about low/insufficient heating. It does seem hit-or-miss. One side is fine but striped, the other may be very light or very dark,but never the same. I just wanted a good 4-slice toaster. At least it matches my other large appliances - which I LOVE. (Ironically my GE stove runs cool too,but I happen to love that). I don't eat much toast anyway.

Even toasts frozen items to perfection. Crumb tray is accessed from the rear... not an issue for me but my wife would prefer it be in the front. Again, great toaster.
