No window AC units are really made for vinyl window installation. Neither is this one. I luckily have a shelf on the exterior of my home.

Very very noisy. Not something you want to put in a room with a television. You will have to put it WAY above normal listening volume levels. The decibels are as expected for the price and what you are buying. Overall, a decent budget AC unit.

Broke within two weeks but Best Buy steps up...

Wrong. After less than two weeks of light-med duty use unit is broken, and will not come on for more than 4 seconds before powering down. Display flashes '88' temp, while beeping every three seconds and GE home app has changed to centigrade instead of fahrenheit. Built-in breaker switch does not fix it, and GE does not offer phone tech support or home repair for this unit (AHP10.) The 'customer returns' phone has a prerecorded message telling you to return the appliance to the retailer for credit' and their customer relations unit is so overwhelmed that they drive you to leave a phone number and 'you won't lose your place in line' until they call you back. Still waiting on that callback, guys. I then get on the phone with Best Buy. Long story short- customer service is fast, friendly and is shipping me a replacement arriving within three days, and sending a shipping label for old unit (always keep the box!) Not happy about rolling the dice with GE again, and there are hundreds in professional installation costs that I'll have to eat (NYC building regs) but thought I should call out Best Buy for highly satisfactory customer service while lack of GE service has ensured that I will never buy a GE consumer appliance again.

Posted .Hi - We are deeply sorry to hear about the difficulty you had with your new air conditioner and with reaching anyone within GE to speak to about the issues you were having. This is not the type of review we expect to hear regarding the product and it is not the level of customer service we normally provide. We can confirm the warranty coverage for this model provides for replacement of the unit. As it states on Page 17 of your Owner's Manual, the product should be returned to the retailer in the first 90 days of ownership and after 90 days, replacement would be handled through GE. We can appreciate your frustration and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. We do hope we have the opportunity to restore your faith in our brand in the future. This was an inexpensive answer to the problem. This was installed in the middle of the home and does a great job all around. The set it and forget it controls are great!
