    Horrible rattling/clicking noise

Bought this , thought because i was paying $500 i was going to get something that worked great. This machine has a constant rattling noise that is non stop. It seems that there is a flap inside the unit that is not tight enough . Blows cold air, but sounds awful.. returning before we even hit 24hrs & will buy something different.

    Good Solid A/C Unit!

The GE - 450 Sq. Ft. Smart Portable Air Conitioner 11,000 BTU- White model is a good quality portable A/C unit. I have personally always felt that portable floor standing A/C units were subpar to their window unit counterparts. Right now I am testing this unit in a house with central air in a bedroom that is well within it,s stated cooling capabilities. I am very technically inclined but I will have to say for a normal person the app would be difficult to set up. First of all the Android app store presents you with several GE apps so it is not that easy to decipher which one you need for this A/C unit. After reading through and testing 3 different ones I was able to figure out the correct app. However, for a normal person I could see the app set up and WI-FI connection being confusing. Not only that after creating an account and signing in I was prompted to update the app. After updating the GE app I had to reconnect through WI-FI and sign back in just to usew the same controls that are available via the physical remote. The only difference between the physical remote and the app that I noticed is the app shows you the current room temperature. Overall, the A/C unit seems to do a good job of cooling down the room it is in. After 1.5 to 2 hours it successfully lowered the room temperature of a bedroom to 64 degrees fahrenheit from 75 . The bedroom is 230 SF and it feels like a walk in cooler in here almost. All I know is this A/C unit delivers and I have no doubt that it will cool a much larger room given time to do so. It feels so good in here in this guest room . All I ever hear about is I am cold while at the same time I am hot. This A/C is the real deal but the app does not offer anything more than being a thermostat as well as the same functions as the physical remote. Which is a big deal I suppose I would just expect more from the app than that! I would not hesitate buying this unit or any of it’s siblings. It does what it is supposed to do and does it well! Wise people should have a generator and a portable A/C or two. Not only that your generator should be either dual fuel or tri-fuel. When it gets real hot and you lose power you need at least one of these units if not two to keep your family safe and comfortable! Go Get one now along with a generator and food! The GE Brand is a solid choice!

QUIET / FLEXIBLE / PORTABLE AIR CONDITIONER

GE - 450 SQ. FT. SMART PORTABLE AIR CONDITIONER 11,000 BTU - WHITE MODEL:APWA11YBBW Best Buy Tech Insider Network QUIET / FLEXIBLE / PORTABLE AIR CONDITIONER OVERALL The GE - 450 SQ. FT. SMART PORTABLE AIR CONDITIONER works well and is relatively quiet for the size and rating (about 55 decibels on high fan). It is much quieter than a different brand window mounted conditioner we purchased a few years ago. It seems well made and seems like it will last. The controls work well and are easy to understand. The remote works well. Even the phone app works well, although it is pretty much just a remote as well. The exhaust hose seems sturdy and is long enough that you have some flexibility on where you place the unit. I like that the AC has louvers on it that can be made to move around to help with airflow. Overall, it is a pretty solid unit. SET UP and PHYSICAL STUFF: If you’ve not used a portable AC before, you need to know that you have to mount a rather large hose (like a dryer vent) between the AC and to your window. The GE - 450 SQ. FT. SMART PORTABLE AIR CONDITIONER includes a mounting kit and the hose. However, the mounting kit is only just OK and with minimal instructions. It is nice and long and fits both vertically or horizontally to match your window opening. But it does not lock into place on its own, so you have to secure it with tape or screws. Not a big deal, but it is not a cheap unit, and it would have benefited from a better mounting for the vent. The included app works well, but does not do much (just a basic remote). I had hoped that it could be controlled via Alexa, with the GE skills enabled, but Alexa says “no compatible devices found”. I’m certain all the parts are there to make this work, but since it is not a premium appliance they chose not to integrate it. I won’t take any points off for that, as they never said it would work with Alexa, but calling it a “Smart” device is a bit of a stretch. CONCLUSION / RECOMMENDATION If you want a brand name portable AC unit I think the GE - 450 SQ. FT. SMART PORTABLE AIR CONDITIONER is worth a close look. It seems well made.

Sleek Portable Air Conditioner Chills in Style

This sleek, portable air conditioner is a powerhouse, cleverly disguised as a contemporary cabinet with clean lines & modern conveniences. The shapely body is built on wheels for easy accessibility. Simply roll it to the desired room & place the configurable vent in the window. The included remote control displays the set temperature, 3-way mode (dehumidify / air condition / fan), timer & other features. An amazing feat is how this air conditioner does not leave water that is extracted from the air, making it practical as a portable air conditioner. This is a quiet unit, rated at only 55 decibel; this is impressive, considering it is moving 185 cubic feet / minute & is rated at 11,000 BTU. There are 3) selectable fan speeds. Power consumption during A/C mode (max) is 9.2 Amp (1,050 Watt). This unit is designed to cool a medium sized room of 450 square feet. This is an exceptionally low maintenance unit, with washable filters. that greatly reduces the cost of ownership. Nothing else is needed; this portable air conditioner includes remote with batteries, thermostat, air filter, hose / tubing & installation kit. I recommend this modern, updated version of the old boxy window A/C units, for applications where you need extra cooling in one room.

I used this in my single car garage...about 400 sq ft. Even tho the garage door is not insulated, this unit will bring the room down to a comfortable level. I do have a window in the garage where I installed the exhaust vent. --The exhaust vent assembly and hose....this would be my one negative. First, the hose separated from the window mount piece. It was a royal pain in the cheesecake to get those two back together. Then, my window opening must be a funky size. The window exhaust comes with two extension sliders. My window is too small to be able to use the extension, yet, the single window mount piece with the exhaust port was too small. So, I had to cut one of the extension slides in order to get the correct fit. Meh...a minor hurdle and not everyone will have to 'modify' like I did.

Made other rooms hotter, Not ideal for sleeping

Interesting problem - All other rooms in my apartment got hotter while running this. Turns out the attic in my apartment is not well insulated and according to an AC repairman the portable air conditioner unit is creating negative air pressure in the room it’s in, thus drawing the hot air from the attic into the rest of my apartment. You can actually feel hot air coming in from the central AC vents and any holes that lead to the attic. I have a digital thermometer and my other rooms would never get hotter than 74° with my central AC running, but now they’ll be at 77° with both this unit and the central AC. The room with this unit can get to 68° which is great but now I feel I need to get more units or ask my landlord to see if I can install a window unit since they’re basically refusing to replace the central AC because it technically still works, I just wanted to cool the bedroom to sleep better. It’s difficult to sleep with it on because of how loud it is, especially the sound it makes when it the AC turns off (kind of like a V8-engined sports car downshifting). With the “Dry / Dehumidifier” mode the noise is consistent but the room gets too cold for me. I will say that I have left the Dry mode on all day and I never needed to drain the unit, so the self-evaporation does work, at least in my climate in Texas. So if you were okay with it getting cold you could possibly leave it dehumidifying and the noise is still a little loud but at least steady so it’s easier to sleep with. It’s a good unit and the smart features work but the manual doesn’t really explain anything and the app name is outdated, the current app name is “SmartHQ.” It may be confusing for someone not tech savvy to get the smart features to work, it was a bit glitchy and I had to repeat the process. Also you will likely NEED to buy more insulation strips because hot air and possibly bugs from the outside will come inside. Consider my unique problem if you’re apartment or house is poorly insulated because the negative air pressure will bring in hotter air inside you’re other rooms, this is a problem I believe doesn’t happen with window units.

This portable air conditioner works well for the room sizes it states. Obviously, a window air conditioner unit for a cheaper price will equal or better than this, but I had a unique use-case for this unit where the windows where it would be installed are too small for such a unit. The exhaust tube unfortunately is very heavy, and even with the screw inserted into the window plate I still had to tape down the exhaust to keep it sealed appropriately. The Smart HQ mobile app is a bit slow but the setup process for this unit is atrocious. The printed manual lists instructions that simply do not work for this unit. After calling their tech support, what you need to do is open the Smart HQ app, add device, let it sit on the main page where it searches via Bluetooth (not Wi-Fi), pair with Bluetooth and accept the multiple pairing requests, then tell it your Wi-Fi information via the app. What a headache that was. I'm debating returning it as the smart features are useful but I'm not sure I can justify the price difference over other portable units.

I’ve waited a couple of weeks to review this in case it broke down or didn’t really do the job. This is a mighty AC unit! I live in a townhouse and this is located in my living room, it cools the room FAST!! I’ve seen complaints of it turning itself off, not sure if that’s when the it’s reached The temperature you chose (because that definitely happens, but it’s not off), or if those were defective units, but I’ve not had that problem at all. I read complaints about noise and let me tell you, this is the quietest portable AC unit I’ve ever had (we have older units in our bedrooms and those are LOUD). The fan is powerful and giving the living room plants some much needed wind movement. My family loves it, it’s working great for this increasingly hotter and hotter summer climate in Portland. When the other units go, we already plan to replace with this one.

Use HVAC tape to secure the hose to the unit

Made the mistake on first use of not using HVAC tape to secure the exhaust hose to the unit, so it became disconnected and came home to it blowing hot air straight into the space for hours, which was terrible for the pets. We ran out and got HVAC tape to secure the hose to the unit and it has worked like a dream ever since. It keeps the whole space nice and cool no matter how hot it is outside and actually works for more square footage than we expected. Love that you can check on it and control it via the app when you're not home. I would 100 percent recommend and if I need a second one, this is the one I would get. We've tried three other ones before this and this is by far superior to those.

This portable ac works great. I am using it in a basement bedroom that has no window. We vented it to a vent that is not being used. I just wish the hose was longer so I could vent it with the dryer vent. This cools the room wonderfully. I am very impressed.

This unit is mediocre at best. The price was ok but the unit is louder than i expected; being as it was advertised as "quiet". With this being 11000 btu i expected it would cool better. I think i could have spent a little more and gotten something alot better
