Just what I've been waiting for

I couldn't use the wemo light switches because 2 of my lights switches didn't have the red wire inside the wall and playing an electrician to wire it would have been more than the switches themselves. When I saw these C by GE switches I grabbed 2 of them, 1 regular on/off and the other a dimmer. They took no time for me to install and they did not require the red wire I've been missing. I also have mostly Nest products in my house and it works great with it.

It's smart enough

You have to make sure all light fixtures controlled by the switch are the same type for it to work. Also, because there is no neutral wire you have to screw one of the bulbs into an adapter before you screw it into the fixture. Fortunately I could hide it under the glove of the porch light fixture.

Great switch, great look, why buy? Heres why!

Works great

The schedule gets messed up sometimes but it's easy to fix on the phone. Plus you can turn them off or on at any time as long as you have signal

Smart products without engineering care=garbage

Owned for 6 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wanted to switch my home over to GE because of the attractive price on the overall lineup, but these are just an absolute nightmare and I wish I could return the ones I bought a longer time ago. Will not work at all for many wiring situations, and quality control is apparently poor because after troubleshooting for 4 hours, I finally just opened the thing up and literally found a loose capacitor flying around inside the switch due to poor solder. Another dimmable unit bought the same day, installed in the most basic situation possible, did not even turn on. I am uninstalling every one I have in my house over safety concerns and I will never buy another GE smart product. Pairing doesn't work well on the app and requires 2.4ghz, install is a nightmare in certain cases and the switches just don't work with certain bulbs flickering or drawing too much power. Switch setups like when you have two or three switches controlling the same lights have not been possible for me. The app has not worked well at all for me, and even when set up properly, they drop connection all the time and are unreliable. Sorry GE, but I spent hundreds of dollars on your smart products and I could not regret it more. The stress and anger that this has caused me has turned me off of GE products indefinitely. I am an electronic enthusiast and have had no issue doing home electric work myself, but as I write this review I am boxing up everything I bought today so that I can go return it tomorrow.

A Good Solution

Installation was pretty straight forward. My problem is that after having worked with Insteon and a Z wave hub, the app and setup doesn’t feel that intuitive or easy to use. Other reviews don’t mention that you also need to connect with Bluetooth for the setup. After getting it set up, it works fine. The app just takes a bit of getting use to.

Good switch that doesn’t require a neutral wire

Saved me a ton of money versus having to have an electrician come out to install a neutral… easy to install and works well. My only wish is that it was Apple HomeKit compatible.

Great smart light switch

So usually you need a switch with a hub in this case, but this new switch take that always. This switch is easy to install and work great with your smart devices like google home and Alexa.

Sometimes it required a different bulb or use of an adaptor with the buld I was using. Not a clearly defined requirement which bulbs will work.

I had to use the bulb adapter for some circuits but not for all. I can now control indoor and outdoor lights and have setup scenes to turn on/off for night and day. Just what I was looking for

Over-engineered and over-priced

Owned for 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The C by GE (now just called Cync) 3-wire smart switch has a sleek design and the build quality is pretty good. However, I think it's an over-engineered and over-priced device, and unless your existing light switch installation absolutely lacks a neutral wire you should not use this light switch. I thought a light switch should be straightforward until I used this light switch. I am not sure how exactly this 3-wire switch works, but clearly it can steal some power/voltage from line/load only without needing the neutral wire. Maybe as a result of this, this switch is not quite compatible with fluorescent lights which have trouble stay steady when used with this switch. It is also indicated in the user manual that this switch is not compatible with non-dimmable LEDs unless you use the included adapter. There is only one adapter included so if you want to you use this switch to control multiple non-dimmable LEDs you will be out of luck. Subtleties like these suggest that whatever trick this light switch uses to power its electronics without the neutral wire, it is not transparent to the downstream devices. If your existing light switch junction box has a neutral wire you will be much better off purchasing a regular 4-wire smart switch which will both be cheaper and give you much better compatibility.

Makes odd noise, bulky

Not loud at all, but can definitely hear it from a foot away. I bought two, but they dont fit in my control box side by side comfortably. I have to squeeze them in, and the faceplate no longer fits. Will be returning unless i can find a solution.

Great if you only have 3 wires.
