You can’t go wrong with the well-insulated and beautifully designed GE Electric Kettle, G7KD15SSP22, that comes with a cool touch, is made of stainless steel and performs very well. Heating up water when filled up to the maximum capacity of 6 cups (1.5 liters) from 60F (16C) to 212F (100C) takes about 6 1/2 minutes. After reaching 212F (100C) it continues to boil for about 5 seconds and then auto-shuts off reliably.
A really cool feature is the Digital Display of Temperature Control which delivers real-time temperature readings, which is very handy for folks who enjoy drinking warm water, for example, at 120F (50C). Now you would just take the kettle off of the base at any desired temperature. By the way, the base includes a cable management system so you can control the length of the cord conveniently.
When you press the power button after you have filled water into the kettle, the Control Panel allows you to change the default temperature of 212F (100C) down (by pressing the “-“ key) to 140F (60C) in 9F (5C) increments and up (by pressing the “+“ key) using the same increments as well. Pressing the “Warm” button would keep the water temperature for up to 2 hours (not tested). The temperature does not go above 212F (100C) and not below 140F (60C). Last but not least, the auto shut-off feature also prevents the kettle from heating/boiling dry. Very highly recommended.

I'm British. I drink tea. Hot tea! Our kettle runs 24/7.
If you want hot water, at a pre-determined temperature every time, this new Electric Kettle from GE Appliances with Digital Control not only looks good, it works well and does exactly that!
Setting up the kettle couldn't be easier, it has a separate power base that you plug into an outlet in your kitchen, and you can curl up excess cord in the base, keeping your countertop clutter-free. Press the button on the middle of the lid to reveal a lid pull, pull off the lid and fill up the kettle with water. On the inside right as you look down inside the kettle are MIN and MAX marking for the water level. Choose your desired amount of water, place the lid back on top, press the middle button on the lid to hid the pull, and place it on the base.
The Kettle will beep and begin flashing on the digital display, the last setting you had the kettle set to. You can adjust the temp setting to several preset temperature settings which take into account temperatures for different types of specialty tea, (Green Tea, Earl Grey etc, which infuse better at different temperatures). You cannot choose a specific temperature, lets say you wanted 150ºF, you cannot choose that specific temp, but only preset temperatures determined by GE.
Once you've chosen the temperature you want, press the power button and the kettle will begin warming. The display will then show the current temperature of the water and rise accordingly as the temperature inside rises. The kettle is absolutely silent between 72ºF and 97ºF and then you hear the usual kettle boiling sounds. It takes around 2.5-3 minutes to get the water up to it's max temp 212ºF, and does it with no fuss at all. Two beeps confirm that the kettle has achieved the desired temperature. The inside base of the kettle did tarnish after first use, so it will need regular cleaning as it goes through its continual boiling cycles. It's taken a moment to get used to the 'wide mouth' pouring spout, but in reality, it works really well, the way the water flows through the openings in the grill are not only aesthetic, but functional to stop the water just gushing out and making a mess, it actually pours smoothly and freely.
There is a 'Warm' button that will maintain the heat in the water for 30 minutes and then turn off. It also features a 'boil dry' sensor and will not allow the kettle to run with no water in it for piece of mind.
In my experience, the kettle did not 'Stay Cool' as featured, but it certainly wasn't 'scalding hot' when I touched the kettle after boiling. You can place your hands on the kettle after it's boiled and it will not scald you. The lid however was in fact cool to the touch after boiling. So while not 'cool to the touch' on the sides of the kettle, it is cool enough not to burn/scald children if they were to reach up and touch the kettle.
My reason for 4 stars, is that the mechanism to take off the lid and put it back on is a little cumbersome. When I press the button, it sticks halfway, meaning I have to pull it up, before I can pull off the lid. And then when replacing the lid, there are 3 little triangular clips that are there to secure the lid, but don't make it easy to replace the lid, along with lining up the semi circular spout at the same time. It would have been nicer to have had a dedicated lid handle, and a completely round lid.
Secondly, the markings for the water level are ONLY on the right hand side, INSIDE the kettle. I am left handed, therefore pick up the kettle with my left hand to fill it. This means I don't get to see the water level markings, I have to lean over the kettle and look at them from the opposite side. This kettle is replacing a previous digital kettle I owned, that had the water level built into the handle, with an LED light to illuminate it. And talking of the handle, it would be nice if it wasn't square edged, it's not very ergonomic for carrying boiling hot water.
Overall a great kettle, does what it says it should do, and does it well. A couple of tweaks and it could be excellent!

Everyone we talk to that has an electric kettle raves about it. So we decided to pick up this one and see for myself. I was tired of using the coffee maker as a heat source, and there was always the microwave, but with both options, we risked the chance of getting some odd smell in the water.
So I picked this one up because I liked the idea of the digital controls. It comes in two pieces as you can see from the pictures and is so easy to use that my 80-year-old mother could figure it out without directions. You just set the temperature you want the water at using the +/- buttons and then hit the On button and the water starts heating up. The display shows you the water temperature as it's heating and beeps when it hits your target temp.
It took 52 F temp water and heated it to 185 F temp in about 2 1/2 minutes. Well worth the price if you're looking for a good, high-quality kettle that looks nice enough to leave on your kitchen counter.

Kettles can be very useful. In England, no house is complete without one, but that is because they use it to make tea, and coffee is usually of the instant variety (pity them). If you want a kettle, then this one is definitely worth consideration.
Cheap kettles usually only have an on switch -- they turn on until the water starts boiling and then it turns off. This one is more advanced: it features a digital control that allows you set the temperature in 9 degree increments. Note that this is a USA kettle: the temperature is in Farenheit, and there is no way that I can see to set it to Celcius. When you first turn it on, it is set to 212 degrees. You can adjust it down to 203, 194, etc., down to 140. Press the power button and it merrily starts heating! Once the temperatuere is reached, it beeps and shuts off.
My house is at over 6,000 feet, so the water boils at around 204 degrees. But this kettle senses that the temperature just isn't going up any more, and then shuts off anyways, instead of trying to reach an impossible temperature and boiling all of the water away.
Another advantage of this is that it is well-insulated. Cheaper units will have a plastic housing, but this one features two walls of steel. It should last a long time, and when filled with hot water, the outside is just warm to the touch because of the insulation. So if you use some water and then need some more later, it will likely still have some heat left so that less energy and time is used to boil it again. However, the down side of this arrangement is that cheaper kettles often have clear plastic window so that you can see the water level, and marked "min" and "max" levels. In this kettle, the min and max marks are stamped on the inside, and are difficult to see in lower light conditions.
The biggest problem with this unit is with the manual and user interface. There is a "Warm" button that is shown in a diagram, but never mentioned elsewhere in the manual. There is also an "On" button. As near as I can tell, these have been reversed. The only thing that the "Warm" button appears to do is to wake the unit up if it has gone to sleep (it turns the display back on). It is also useful if, for some reason, you need to make "beeping" sounds. The "On" button, on the other hand, actually starts the warming operation. But once you get used to the interface, it is not hard to use. While the display is flashing, you can use the "+" and "-" buttons to adjust the final temperature. Once you press the "On" button, the display shows the current water temperature.
Should you buy this? Well, the first question is "do you really need a kettle?" Do you need hot water often enough to dedicate the counter space for a unit like this? If you drink a lot of tea, hot cocoa, and make a lot of Ramen noodles, then this might be a worthy addition. It is fast, easy, and efficient. It is highly recommended.

The GE Electric Kettle with digital control was an upgrade from the glass kettle I had been using. I have read that plastic pour spouts are less desirable for avid tea drinkers as it has the potential to alter the taste of the water, but not in any way that I can detect.
This GE kettle heats 2-3x more quickly than the previous kettle I had been using, which in itself may be worth the upgrade.
The added temperature control allows me to be more selective for different beverages, whether it’s different teas that ought to steep at different temperatures, or hot chocolate for the kids where a warm temperature is more ideal.
If your only goal is to get water hot, there are more economical options with fewer features, but to me the added ability to choose a temperature, as well as the faster heat time compared with my previous kettle make the GE kettle worth the upgrade.

>> Overview
I have mixed feelings about the GE Electrical Kettle. It looks great at first sight, but during operation, I started noticing some things I wish it could do/have. Overall, the device is well constructed and feels solid, perhaps the base seems a little light, it boils water fast though, and keeps water warm for a long period of time. Paper manual that comes in box lacks some details that I think are important:
> Features not "evident" in the manual provided:
- Temperature from 140F to 212F at 9F intervals: 140F, 149F, 158F, 167F, 176F, 185F, 194F, 203F, 212F.
- Keep warm capability is about 1/2 hr. max.
- It has a fine strainer at the spout, so if some big particle got inside it can be "filtered".
- Not completely sealed. The spout has an opening (with the strainer), that cannot be closed.
- Once off, it keeps water warm for a long period of time.
- It takes about 7 min to boil water at max capacity at 210F (about sea level).
> Operation (not all found in the manual provided):
- Turn off: Press “On” button, the temperature light blinks, wait a couple of seconds, it will turn off. Other methods include: removing the kettle from the base, or pulling the power cord off.
- Turn on: Place the kettle on the base and plug it in if not already, or just press the “On” button (if already plugged and on the base).
- Boild/Heat: Turn on the device (lights blink), select temperature desired (“+”, “-” buttons), press “On” button (temperature light becomes solid). After reaching desired temperature it will beep a couple of times, and then it will stay at that temperature for about 1/2hr and then automatically it will turn off.
- Warm: Turn on the device (lights blink), select temperature desired (“+”, “-” buttons), press “Warm” button and next “On” button (temperature light becomes solid). After reaching desired temperature it will beep a couple of times, and the automatically turn off after a few seconds.
>> Boiling
Time to boil water using the GE Electrical Kettle here in the Pacific Northwest, less than 100ft above sea level, is about 7 min, about the same as a regular Kettle put on max on our electric stove. Boiling temperature is 210F or so degrees in our case.
The exterior is not hot after boiling water: the sides are not hot, and best of all, the bottom of the GE Electrical Kettle (that touches the base) is not/hot warm at all.
>> Temperature range
Temperature range is from 140F to 212F at 9F intervals. Not having a 1F temperature increment/decrement isn’t an issue for a Kitchen device (you are not talking about a laboratory water heater); however, I'd thought I could keep some water warm at body temperature, i.e., 90F, but it is not possible with this device.
>> Keeping water warm
Without using the “Warm” feature, given the device is not completely sealed (the spout includes a strainer that serves like a "filter"), expect the water to cool down eventually. Well, it is better than a regular Kettle at keeping water warm for a longer.
With the “Warm” feature, the water can be kept at the desired temperature for about 1/2 hr. I was expecting duration to be configurable (1/2 hr., 1 hr., etc.) or perhaps to be longer; but it looks like for keeping things safe it was decided to have the 1/2 hr. max duration.
>> Other thoughts
- The base seems a little too light. So, you may need to hold it in place when placing the GE Electrical Kettle on it. I see that some people would prefer something lighter, but my preference is to have a heavier base that can be kept in place and not easily moved.
- Even though I am giving it a 3/5, I’d still think it could be valuable to people that choose to have it based on its features and operation. So, I’d still recommend it.
- One great benefit is that it frees space in your Kitchen stove to cook other things.

Great Electric Kettle, Just Short of Perfect

The GE - Electric Kettle with Digital Control is a high quality electric kettle but is missing a few features to make it the ultimate kettle. The digital control works very well albeit a bit basic in functionality. The kettle defaults to 212 degrees every time it is placed on the pad from being picked it. There is no memory function or favorite function which to me would make it much more user friendly not that change the temperature (in intervals of 9 degrees) each time is bad, it’s just slightly more time consuming. Another drawback is there is no way to tell the water level from the outside of the device. Lastly, this kettle has a warm function which maintains the water temp for up to 2 hours at a set temperature. I cannot figure out how to use this function which is bad considering there is a dedicated button for this feature. There needs to be a definitive light or indication this feature is on or working because mine doesn’t seem to work. This kettle heats water up very quickly which is great. It is fairly loud while warming up water so keep this in mind if you want to use this in quieter environments. The temp interval of 9 degrees seems perfect and a range of 140 to 212 degrees works for a wide range of hot water applications as does the 6 cup capacity. Overall, I have enjoyed using this GE Electric Kettle and if those feature aspects of this kettle were addressed, this would be a perfect appliance.

Great water kettle. The best thing about it is you can stop at the temperature you want. I normally need luke warm water and can stop it at 90F or 95. Also, has the best safety that the outer part doesn't get heated and doesnot burn your skin when accidentally touches it.

Design: this kettle looks super sleek on my counter. I especially like the style of the spout and how it goes straight up. The stainless steel is of a superior quality and it being double walled really helps the water retain its heat.
Heating: This kettle heats up pretty quick! It did not seem abnormally slow or fast.
Ease of use: there are some really nice ease of use features. The kettle has a digital display. The kettle beeps when the water has heated to its target temperature. The kettle can be set to hold a temperature.
This kettle is great, but here are a few drawbacks. I was not able to get the temperature increments to go down to a single degree (I.e. i was unable to set it at exactly 210; i had to use it at the closest temperature available i.e. 212). Likewise, if your plan is to make pourover coffee, the lack of gooseneck spout will make it slightly more difficult to make.
Overall this is a great kettle.

This all metal electric kettle is exactly perfect if you need to make hot water quickly. Using a stovetop kettle always took a long time and was just inefficient. This electrical kettle by GE has digital controls so that you can select 9 different preset temperatures between 140 and 212 degrees Fahrenheit. The water heats up quickly and is absolutely silent until approximately 125 degrees, then you can hear water boil. The digital controls gives you precise temperature control over mechanical dials. The kettle is connected to a baseplate that supplies electricity to the kettle, therefore you are not dragging a cord with you as you lift off the kettle.
The few things I do not like about the kettle is the lid release mechanism and placement of the buttons. The lit is held on by spring mechanism clips that you have to pull out with a bit of force. For longevity reasons, I wonder what happens if the springs get stuck and wont release preventing you from taking the lid off. In addition, there is a button on top that you press in and out to provide a grip to take off the lid. When you press on the button, it does not extend out fully making you have to manually pull up tab all the way to get a grip on the lid. In addition, the buttons are placed in a spot where you will always be touching the buttons with our palm when you grab the kettle.
Overall, for the purposes of heating up water quickly and ease of use, getting this digital version is a no brainer. The stainless steel used is of great quality and the heating element appears to be solid. Hopefully, the lid will not be a problem in the long run.

I have always boiled my water the old fashion way via oven ranges. I have used both gas and electric stoves to do this function. Now heating water this way for the past week has made me wonder why I haven't tried electric kettles before this? Maybe it's because of this unit itself? The stainless steel color is nice and modern looking. And the digital readout on the handle makes it look futuristic. I have to say the instructions need work. I am not sure if there is a way to set a temp to boil at or does it always boil to the temp of 212 degrees Fahrenheit?
Before using the first time, I washed with warm to hot soapy water on the inside. Then filled the kettle to the max line, which is located inside. Then placed the kettle on it's electric pad and in about 2 minutes, the water was at 212 degrees Fahrenheit. There is no whistle like a stove top kettle, it just stops and the display just goes dark. You empty that first pot and the manual does say to repeat but that was not needed because I did wash it before hand.
The footprint of the kettle is nice and small. The cord for me is at the perfect length to push and pull the kettle to tuck it away on the counter and then pull it out to use it.
I have to say I definitely will recommend this brand. I may have to say getting a digital version verses the lesser is not needed. Unless you want to keep your water at a certain temperature. The look is nice and sleek, the ease of taking the top off and on is easy enough but I can see it breaking in a few years time with heavy use. But by that time I feel that I have gotten enough uses out of it for the cost.
