GE Worst Refrigerator and Customer Service Ever

Worst Appliance I have ever purchased and worst company to deal with for Customer service. I will NEVER buy another GE Product again based on the quality and the terrible customer service. Purchased the GE Profile 27.9 4 door refrigerator May 20, 2023. It went out beginning of August and we lost over $200 of groceries, I spent hours on phone calls trying to get it repaired and we had multiple technicians out multiple times, waited over a month on parts two times. Repaired Oct 10. Now December 12, its out again. Just spent another day on technician who has to come back and have parts ordered. On the phone with GE Customer Service again and all they want to do is send a small check to buy a mini fridge while we go through this again

GE Quality Control Should Be Fired!

If I could give Zero stars so far I would. Now, this is pre-replacement but I have to say that the state in which this arrived (from GE in the box) makes me worry about overall GE quality. The installers told me while installing that they were going to have to order me a new one. Its July 19th and my replacement is not arriving until September 22!! Now with the issues. First, there is a massive razor knife slash on the inside of the left door. Once could argue that is cosmetic but if I am paying 3000-4000 for an appliance I expect it to come out of the box looking brand-new without blemish. Second, There is foam insulation protruding from the top of the front right door separating the plastic from the stainless steel. Third, the drawer in the freezer will not stay on track with the back wheels. It's as if the wheels themselves are not the correct width for the track molded into the wall. Finally, The center drawer cooler space came with NO DRAWER in it. I pull it out and I'm looking at my floor! Not only that, but the rails are two different lengths, so when you pull the drawer out one side is out further than the other. Overall, I am highly concerned about the quality of GE products. I am still contemplating canceling this all together and going with a different brand like LG. But I know for sure, the replacement for this wont be here for over two months at this point which is unbelievable.

    Subpar customer service and installation

We have multiple grievances. First delivery was rescheduled due to a frozen liftgate-understandable, even though we live in Wisconsin. Both of us work in transportation and understand that they just didnt want their drivers out in the snow. That was fine, we get it. Second delivery was resceduled because of a boot sized dent in the compressor. They took our old fridge for convenience purposes because it had already been removed. We have an old spare in the garage. The next available "install" date was 3 weeks later. I informed them that no installation was needed as we only needed to reattach the old water line to the back of the fridge. Still insisted we need an installation crew. When they finally showed up, they only reattached the water line, which took 30 seconds. The freezer handle wasnt attached properly, only having one side actually screwed in. The other one was missing completely. Additionally, they did not assemble the interior of the fridge stating "there is a silicone spray that needs to sit for a few hours, then you will need to wipe out the entire fridge before assembling it". The inner freezer drawer does not slide evenly and falls into the freezer compartment whenever it is pulled out. The rollers arent out far enough to reach the slide bars. Upon assembling the fridge, we realized there were necessary pieces missing. A lower door shelf has not been utilized at all since delivery. And lastly, the fridge was filthy. Debris left inside and greasy streaks were all throughout. It has taken awhile to send this message because I travel for work and my husband works 14+ hours a day. We had also been dealing with back to back deaths in the family and really dont like to complain. However, these problems are ones we shouldnt have to live with seeing as we paid a significant amount for this appliance. The freezer drawer has no handle avaliable, the inner drawer has to be reset and the shelf on the door still needs an attachment to be installed. Nevermind the customer service issues.

Cheap parts on handle/door. Fell apart on Day 5!

This is in no way a reflection on Best Buy who have been superb, both by phone and in store, but absolutely should reflect the quality of this GE product. Our last refrigerator died after 8 years so we needed to find something that could be delivered quickly (not easy in the days of short supply due to Covid). We visited our local BB. Having had Samsung French door before (don't even go there....BAD, BAD decision), we were seriously considering the LG (all the bells and whistles with the see through door) or this GE. The LG felt a little sturdier but the interior of the GE was beautiful with a fully backlit interior and the color of the interior was great, plus it also had an extra dedicated drawer for cheeses and meats or beverages. I'm not a major fan of the 'door in door' thing as there are only two of us (plus one older teen) most of the time - so it's not really essential nor is any wifi capability. However we loved the Autofill of the water dispenser where you can leave your glass, wander away and return after the glass has been filled. After asking advice (and finding out there';s no hope of getting the LG anytime this year basically) we plumped for the GE. And so it arrived....The first time of even opening the right door I noticed that it felt quite wobbly. I then noticed that the handle mechanism didn't work properly. Some of the time the 'door in door' mechanism worked and sometimes it didn't. Some times - when I wanted the entire door to open, it wouldn't and I'd be presented with the 'door in door' instead. It was almost as though the fridge had a mind of its own. The latch mechanism wasn't working properly either and the bolts that attach the door to the handle didn't seem to connect properly with the holes they are supposed to attach to. I thought I was just being dumb...until the handle fell off. 5 days into having the refrigerator at a cost of quite a few thousand $$$!! I then noticed that the entire latch piece that is a hook within the handle (responsible for activating the 'door in door' mechanism is a very thin, cheap piece of plastic and one that was bent. This is the sort of fabrication that shouldn't be used for a cheap child's toy - never mind a refrigerator door that is going to be utilized several times a day. I called Best Buy and they immediately organized for a replacement to be provided. However, after seeing just how flimsy the parts are on this handle and door, I visited the store again and went through every single refrigerator on the floor. I'm glad I did - it was timely because today the entire right hand side door of this GE will not stay closed - it is as though the suction holding the door to the frame isn't working properly now either. GRRRRR!! So the GE is now being held closed by something leaning against it! While in the BB store today I spent a lot of time pulling handles and drawers, checking the weight of in-door baskets and I also put weight on the roller mechanisms in each of the appliances I looked at. It became really apparent to me which are better build quality and which aren't and also which appliances had more well-thought out storage that those of us who spend a lot of time cooking will find useful. It was only when I looked at the reviews online that I realized that others have also had problems with the handles on this GE refrigerator (though in different places on the appliance). Best Buy were great in that they canceled the replacement as soon as I asked, and I have chosen a Kitchenaid which was slightly cheaper but infinitely better quality, won't show the fingerprints and whose interior (though more plain) has been thought through very well in terms of how a family uses both the refrigerator and freezer space. The manufacturer warranty is far better too. We do have the Beta membership with Best Buy so I don't know if that affected the level of service, but we really can't complain about the service - it was superb both in store and by phone. Sorry GE - too cheap a build for something so expensive.

Terrible delivery and terrible build quality

We bought along with a Totaltech membership. After installed, it emitted a piercing high pitch whine anytime it operated over 0.1 kwh (I logged the issues and discovered a pattern after consulting with the app). I think it was damaged on install (I watched the installers tilt it when removing it from the box, and instead of letting it down carefully, they dropped it. They repeated that 4 times for each side of the box that they were cutting). Because of the high pitch nature of the noise, I assumed it had something to do with the inverter compressor). Using the Totaltech membership, we had service come, and he was in my house for no more than 1 minute when he said there was nothing he could do without being able to hear the noise. He recommended getting the replacement through the Totaltech membership. So we just got identical fridge #2, and it came in terrible shape. It looks like there is a burn mark inside the freezer, there is spray foam insulation bulging out of a vent in the freezer, there were bugs in the fridge, a dent on the upper corner, it is oozing some sort of grease all around the seal and even on the icemaker, and the middle drawer squeaks and groans every time you pull it out and push it back in. To top it off, when you have the front doors open, the front face of the fridge is scalding hot, registering as high as 115-120 F on an infrared thermometer I have (and no, it is not improperly ventilated, it is in the same space as my previous fridge which didn't have this problem). Terrible build quality and how can they explain the bugs in it? On to a third fridge, hopefully the third time is the charm.

This is the 2nd GE - Profile Series 27.9 Cu. Ft. Refrigerator in a matter of weeks. Returned first one because from day one it freezes and explodes cans (soda, sparkling waters, etc.) in the convertible drawer (set at 33 degrees). I set it at 37 and still freezes (though not to the point of exploding cans). Had Geek Squad come over and they said it would be a major repair, so best to exchange it. I exchanged it and the replacement also has the same problem. One can that recently expanded (or exploded) cracked the soda tray. I don't know if it's a design flaw, bad luck, or whatever. Would have given it 4 or 5 stars if the convertible drawer worked properly. Other features seem nice.

      Hey there,

We're incredibly sorry to hear that your refrigerator is experiencing issues with the convertible drawer. We certainly understand your concern and recommend these tips. Food load is an important factor. The fresh food drawers and compartment should ideally be at least 1/2 full or more. Freezing is more likely to occur when the refrigerator does not have enough food to absorb the cold air. If the drawer has an adjustable temperature feature and items are freezing, adjust the drawer to a warmer temperature setting. If these tips do not help, service may be needed. You can schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-432-2737. Stay well! Mike@GEA GE_Appliances

My rating is pending a service call by GE. If the issue is resolved, I will change the rating. Pros: Shiny. Nice and heavy (didn't fall over in the truck). Magnets work on it (unlike brushed aluminum). Good lighting, lots of space to display LEGO sets I guess (definitely don't put anything perishable in it). Cons: Does not cool things (which for $3000 you think it would). The following issues will remain true even if my lemon of a refrigerator is fixed: The installation instructions are vaguer than IKEA instructions (which do not have any words). They are poorly written and encompass several models as well as previous versions, so they include unnecessary steps. The door in door is a gimmick that is questionably useful. There is no barrier between the shelves and the body of the refrigerator, so when you open the door in door you still have access to the interior of the fridge. Maybe it helps keep cold air in a little because the opening is slightly smaller, but I doubt that it is significant. The wifi and app are utterly useless. As soon as I began having the issues (outlined below) I installed the app and connected to wifi to see if there were diagnostics available. Nope. The app requires an account and then 15 minutes later I had access to the exact same features as the control panel on the door of the fridge. No "current temperature" reading, no alarm that the fridge is well above the set temperature, no indication that there may be a problem (which there absolutely was). The following is my experience with the refrigerator, which will be updated as necessary. I installed the refrigerator on the evening of 6/3/2020 and let it cool overnight. On 6/4/2020 (evening nearly 24 hours later) the ice machine had produced 2 bins full of ice and it seemed that everything was in order, so we transferred everything from the old refrigerator. When I went to dump the second bin of ice, I noticed that the ice was thawing a little bit, but figured that was due to opening and closing the door repeatedly during the transfer process. Just in case, I put a tray of water in the freezer to check overnight. On 6/5/2020 the tray in the freezer was still water, and everything in the refrigerator was thawing. I called GE and they have scheduled a service call for 2 weeks from now, so I currently have a $3000 paperweight in my kitchen.

    Never buying GE again!!!

We bought SIX GE products for our new home because they have been reliable in the past. Our 1 year old GE Profile washing machine had the drain pump go bad. It was about a month outside of the warranty I don’t know anyone who has the money to buy a new washer every year! I have never had a major appliance break after BARELY a year of use! That is absolute garbage! When we got our new GE profile refrigerator delivered, it was missing the whole inside of the middle drawer. They replace the whole refrigerator instead of sending the part it needed that could have been dropped in without an issue. The second refrigerator they sent has been the WORST appliance I have ever had! One of the bins on the door didn’t fit. They sent that part. The door handles had very sharp edges. They sent those parts. Then, when our warranty was almost up, the ice maker quit working and freezer drawer wouldn’t stay on the track. They honored the warranty for the repairs, but the ice maker quit working again. We had to fight with them to get them to cover repairs again. This cycle repeated over the next year, with the EXACT SAME issue on the ice maker. They replaced different parts 5 times, replacing EVERYTHING that could possibly replaced, but repairs never lasted more than a few months. The repair company FINALLY declared it unrepairable, but GE now tells me it’s out of warranty so they won’t replace it or refund my money. They want to give me a DISCOUNT on a brand new one. I don’t want to waste another dime of my money another GE product! Here we go again with the stress of another fight with them! I will NEVER buy GE again.

Run, don't walk, from GE refrigerators. Lemons happen, but 8 service calls and $900 in repairs on a $3,500 appliance is pathetic. It Does. Not. Work. And GE refuses to replace it. We are throwing it out. This company should be ashamed of what it has put us through. Try LG, Samsung, Bosch, etc.

2 deliveries and still not a working fridge!

I'd give this zero if I could! We had one delivered four days ago and when I got home (my husband was there to receive it), there was a small dent by the logo in the top right. However the largest problems are that when they peeled off that plastic protective coating, there was a grainy texture on the right door that would not come off no matter what we cleaned it with! The auto water dispenser constantly overfilles, and the easy-close door on the right (the ones that hold the veggies/fruits) does not close like it's supposed to. Soooo, we didn't even get a chance to look at the problems the other one had (other than the bumpy texture of the door), because the right door in door did not close properly. We have to lift it up and slam it shut to make it work. We're two weeks with having no food of any substance in the house because we don't have a working refrigerator. 20 years ago I said I'd never buy another GE appliance because of how unreliable they were, but at least 20 years ago we got a few years out of them! I knew we shouldn't have bought another, against my better judgement! GE and Best Buy get one more shot, but I can guarantee that I'm going to be asking for a discount. This will be the third day we're having to take off of work!

This fridge has the potential to be great. It's large, looks good, has the right set of features, but the fresh food section does not maintain adequate temperatures so I can't give I more than one star. We set up glasses of water throughout the fridge when we first got it and left the fridge alone for 24 hours. I measured the temperature using multiple thermometers, including a thermapen, and it measured 42 degrees. I lowered the fridge temperature to 34 degrees and left it for another 24 hours. The coldest I've seen is 39 degrees and the temps creep into the low to mid 40s throughout the day. Anything in the 40s is no good for a fridge so I exchanged for another one which is behaving the exact same way (coldest reading is 39). I called a service tech thinking it was maybe something we overlooked but it has plenty of ventilation (3 inches side/back wall, and nothing above). The convertible drawer is set to 33 and works fine (water measures 33-34 consistently). I'm out of ideas, and frustrated, but luckily I'm within my return window and will choose another manufacturer. I don't recommend this product.

We chose this refrigerator after having a similar GE model a few years ago. Really liked all the features - auto fill, the look of the interior, the middle drawer, the door in door. It is exaxtly what we wanted…EXCEPT the door in door doesn’t lock properly. We had one delivered…didnt lock…asked for a new one. At this point, I was not going to start off on a bad door (that’s why we were getting rid of our latest Frigidaire). Best Buy said no problem and scheduled delivery for a new one less than a werk later. Today, the new one comes…WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. Fortunately the delivery guys checked it before removing the other defective one and bringing in the new defective one. Best Buy has been easy to work with so far, but I’m really disappointed in the quality from GE. Now we have to decide if we chance it with a third try or go back to the drawing board to find a different fridge. So frustrating!

    Delivery Issues

Third party carrier delivered this refrigerator but refused to remove the box to check for damage. The size of the refrigerator makes it necessary to remove it from the box for it to fit through the door. As a result of the carriers refusal to remove it from the box, it was left in my driveway and I had to uncrate it myself. I discovered a small dent on the side of the sliding drawer. I also had to get the refrigerator into my home myself. Luckily I had contractors working at my home that were willing to assist with this. This was not an easy task. When I purchased the refrigerator it was my understanding that it included delivery into my home, not to be left on my driveway. Honestly if it were not for the short supply of appliances at this time I would have refused the delivery. I have bought many items from Best Buy over the years and have never had an issue. I would think twice about buying large items that necessitate delivery if this is the service that is going to be provided.

Multiple delivery attempt - all with damaged items

I'm trying to get my fridge replaced, but can't get it delivered without damage after 3 attempts for delivery. Every time Best Buy delivery - the refrigerator is damaged. It appears like that Best Buy is not inspecting products prior to delivering it to the customer. Unfortunately for me I have to continue waisting my time and rescheduling a new delivery. As for the new customers - think twice if you want to stick with damaged products and spend long hours on the phone talking with unprofessional V Best Buy customer service support for rescheduling new delivery date. I recommend to avoid Best Buy when considering where to purchase expensive appliances. Otherwise, be ready to deal with a lot of damaged items and multiple delivery days as well as countless hours on the phone.

This experience has been an absolute NIGHTMARE! Received the Fridge with a golf ball sized ding in the door. Per Best Buy unable to get replacement door only. Returned immediately 7 days after receiving, 11/3/20 and have still not been credited and am now getting late notices via phone and e-mail. Have made several calls to Best Buy and Citibank to no avail. DO NOT BUY FROM BEST BUY! So disappointed and frustrated. This has also begun to affect my credit as Best Buy is showing my as late on payments. Why should I pay for an item not in my possession?

We bought this refrigerator in August of 2023 for the first time. Barely a month into owning it the freezer was springing a leak which caused ice buildup and leaking. The issues grew on as the rest of it began to loss temp quickly. Pair that with the water line breaking causing $4,000 in water damage and remediation. After Best Buy tried fixing it on three occasions, they finally decided it would be est to exchange it for a new one. Fast forward to second refrigerator and not even a month in - we received it in early Novemeber 2023 and by December the Freezer failed and all of our food spoiled. The GE team is impossible to schedule and when they came out they missed some majors erros that Geek Squad found when they checked it out the next day. All for Ge to say the repair will take 2 weeks to get thre parts for it. As we waited the rest of thr unit began to fail. The entire refrigerator hit 60° so now we have a giant box of spoiled food. This is unacceptable for a refrigerator at this price point.

8 Months later and already have a problem. The ice maker is no longer cold enough to freeze water to make ice. Called GE to schedule an appointment since it's under warranty. We had to wait 5 days for the quickest appointment. On the appointment date they gave us a 4 hour window and no one showed up. Called them again and now we have to wait 9 more days for the next appointment. So if you want a $3k appliance that begins to have problems in less than 9 months and lousy support, this is the product for you

Hello, thank you for your review. We hate to hear that your refrigerator's ice maker and freezer section are not operating properly and that your original service appointment had to be rescheduled after a long delay due to your technician not being able to complete the appointment. It's not what we would expect to happen and we apologize for any inconvenience or frustration this may have caused you. We truly value you as a customer and hope that you will give us the opportunity to earn your trust back in the future. -Chris@GEA GE_Appliances
