Stopped working in less than 2 weeks

Ordered on 03/01/2020 in Plantation store. Picked up in the store on 03/04/2020 and installed a few days later. Tested all of the "eyes" to verify they worked immediately after installation. Used it lightly once or twice over the next few days. On 03/16/2020 used the cooktop to cook a complete meal employing all of the eyes. Noticed the big eye in the right zone seemed to lose power. Also noticed a hot plastic smell that I attributed to the cooktop being new. On 03/18/2020 I found that neither eye in the right zone would heat up. I called GE for a service call for the 2 week old cooktop. The GE tech came on 03/20/2020 and diagnosed the cooktop's induction generator ASM to be bad and had to be replaced. The part not only was very expensive, but was out of stock and on back order. The tech suggested the cooktop was damaged on delivery and should be returned to Best Buy. Over the next several hours I talked to Best Buy personnel at the Plantation store, the company's appliance complaint department and the Geek Squad. I learned I could not return the defective cooktop to the store because I was 1 day past Best Buy's appliance return policy. I also learned the Geek Squad extended warranty was useless until the item had to be repaired 3 times. Basically Best Buy's stance was the defective cooktop was GE's problem. I now have a very expensive 2 small burner induction hotplate while I'm waiting for GE to search for the parts. A valuable and expensive lesson learned.

Ordered this to replace our older induction cooktop. This is top of the line, easy to clean glass surface. Food doesn’t cook on because the burner surface doesn’t get that hot. More responsive then electric cooking. Faster then gas. It is all good.

After years of having a gas cooktop we moved to a subdivision with no gas available. We needed to replace an electric cooktop that was 18 years old. This has been a fantastic addition to our kitchen. It offers very precise cooking and a broad range of options and control. We are very pleased with this upgrade.

This is a great cooktop! Ours originally came damaged from the factory but BestBuy exchanged it right away! I can't wait for the exchanged one to get here so we can start cooking so much faster with induction cooking!

This induction stove top is the worst purchase I’ve ever made. Started off with one burner not working properly the geek squad coming out to “repair it“ they ended up damaging the whole range. Stay clear of this way to expensive to have worked less then a year !

New purchase so no long-term experience yet. This cooktop was installed to replace an older GE Profile Calrod coil cooktop with traditional cooker bowls. As a smooth top unit, it has all the expected aesthetic benefits: less cluttered and much easier to clean. Cooking is easy. The controls are intuiitive. There are power settings and a warning light when an element area is hot (induction tops do get hot, but from downward conduction from the heating cookware on the cooktop, not from radiant heating from below. Heating at maximum power is very efficient: 3 quarts of cold water coming to a boil in 90 seconds, which is faster even than a microwave. You need cookware that is at least partially steel (All Clad with aluminum and/or copper layers works well too). For the most part, it fit reasonably well into the existing countertop cutout (one screw had to be replaced with a lower profile screw and the electric cable gooseneck exits the case further forward than did on the older unit, requiring a small cutout in the back panel of one under-counter drawer box.) This is definitiely an upgrade to an old-type coil cooktop unit and probably would be also to a radiant smoothtop, although I bypassed that type and went to induction.

    Faulty Design

We purchsed this unit and installed it last August. Whenever the largest burner or the combination of at least 2 small burners were on high, the unit will shut off by itself without tripping the circuit breaker. The phenomenon takes from 3-7 min to occur. We tried name brand cookware. It didn't work. Imagine that you have to start the burner every 3-7 min when you are cooking!! We have called technician from Best Buy and GE. So far, we've had four appointments. The technicians from both best buy and GE have replaced the control unit and the glass top. Nothing worked. No error code is given. We paid out of pocket and hired a electrician to make sure that our wires can handle the large power output. It is a faulty unit. When I call GE and asked if other consumers have the same issue, the rep declined that he knew any data about it. I would stay away from this cooktop if you decide to buy induction.
