GE PPHV10WWF 10,000BTU smart portable AC unit

The GE PPHV10WWF 10,000BTU smart portable AC unit cools very good in my 450sqft+ upstairs den area. It has a Turbo fan setting that is a little loud, but using it in AUTO mode, the fan is very quiet and not distracting at all. The unit is built very good and utilizes dual hoses which is more efficient that those units that only use one hose. The owners manual and installation instructions were very vague and not very clear at all, so a lot of guesswork installing the unit. The window interface was difficult to install such that it doesn't come loose with the weight of the dual hoses hanging off it. Biggest issue I had was that I was going to install the unit partially under my large workstation desk to enable the hose to reach the window, but the specifications on the Best Buy website was totally in error for the unit maximum height. The BB specs shows a product height of 21 5/16 inches, where the actual height was 37 inches which resulted in a major rework of the room to get it to fit and the hoses reach. Another issue was it specified that the hoses were 5 ft, but that way they are installed on the back of the unit, there is only approximately 4 ft length available to reach the window, which was unexpected also. In summary tho, due to my HVAC being repaired, the unit did cool my work area sufficiently during some really hot 90+ days.

Helping me sleep through this hot summer!

This portable AC couldn’t of come at a better time! Summer time can bring some hot temperatures specially in a two-story home. Ever since this GE Profile Smart Portable AC arrived, I have used it at night every night. It does an amazing job at keeping our room cool through the night.
It’s my first ever portable AC, so I cannot offer a comparison to previous models or different models, but I will say that the noise on this one is subtle, I usually keep it on quiet mode at night and it does not bother me at all. If you put it on turbo and high fan speed then as expected you will get louder noise and possibly more disturbing, but I don’t use it like that so it’s perfect for our needs.
It mostly stays in the bedroom, but one feature I do like is that is has wheels at the bottom. I have moved it a couple of times from the bedroom to the office room on a day that it was just too hot, and the wheels made it super easy and fast to move. It is a heavy item, so dragging it around some stairs might be more difficult.
As far as the app, no complaints. It’s nice and simple, and set up took no more than 5-10 minutes. I like that I can turn it on so that the our bedroom is nice a cool one our way back home.
The only thing I haven’t been able to see yet is the effect on our utility bill. This portable AC has helped me literally only turn on our full AC system 3 times in the last month, and like I said, I have used it every night for the last few weeks, and so I am anxiously waiting to see my upcoming bill. It can’t be more than if I was running the AC all day for all over the house, but just curious to see what it will look like. If it runs me 30-40 a month to run it every night, that’s a win for me because I sleep extra comfy in a nice and cool room!
All in all, I really enjoy this portable AC and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to cool up a room and not have to use your full AC system. It really does work on a space for about 400sqft, and like I said, the noise is subtle which is good if you plan on keeping it on overnight.

Cools great, extremely quiet. Window installation kit is a bit deeper/height wise than other portable air conditioners. Initially took a lot of humidity out of the air and had about a pint of water that needed to be drained, but now there is only about 2-4 tablespoons of water after 10 hours of run time, which is great. The problem is the exhaust hoses are cheaply made and one of mine arrived cracked; I wonder how long they will last, especially the one which handles the hot expelled air. The continuous drainage hose also arrived cracked; but, in fairness it could be the hoses were cracked because the unit was delivered upside down and my security footage showed it was taken off the delivery truck upside down. Be that as it may, I hope the interior parts are made better and less cheaply than the hoses. All and all I would recommend

Bought this portable ac because my central air stop blowing cold air and needed something until i replace it. This is a excellent product. Setup was somewhat easy, the instructions that comes with it doesn't tell you much which is the frustrating part. Other then that it cooled off the whole upstairs in my house. Makes it feel like you in a igloo. Get cold fast probably from the 2 hoses. One getting the hot air out and the other bringing in cold and clean air. The other thing about this is its a smart ac which i can control from anywhere on my phone when away.

My one gripe was with the initial setup when attempting to snap the exhaust assembly to the window one of the plastic clips broke way too easily. This didn’t affect how it works but it definitely seemed a bit fragile.
Everything else is great. There's rarely water that needs to be drained, it cools the room perfectly, and it's much less noisy than my old unit.

Even better than I had hoped for. Great coooling power. Very easy to use. And quiet. It solvced my problem of having to hoist a heavy air conditioner into the window every year - and then take it out. My only criticism is the plastic parts that are break.

Unit is fantastic! Cools ours 450 sq ft bedroom within mins on turbo! Its quiet as well when on auto. Love it! Use it in the opposite site of our house to balance the area and allows us to keep the ac at higher temps at night and run this unit alone which saves us money!

Pros: Powerful, Advanced Technology, and Portable. Cooled down the room in less than a minute. The remote control and connection to Alexa were state-of-the-art and exceeded my expectations. Once out of the box, the unit was moved with ease.
Cons: Installing the vents in the windows and ensuring they were air-tight and secure was a daunting task, but manageable. What was most problematic for me was the noise. The unit was very noisy/loud, especially when the unit increased or decreased output to automatically control temperature.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with the sound level of your portable air conditioner and are happy to help. If you have selected "Auto" for the fan speed, change it to Low, Med, or High depending on the time of day and the room temperature. When you select Auto for the fan speed, the speed will adjust automatically to provide ideal cooling based on the room temperature; as the fan speed changes more or less noise will be heard. Also, for those times when the sound level is particularly important, consider setting the unit to Quiet mode. -Vikki@GEAppliances

I converted the attic of an old house into somewhat of an apartment… The A/C from downstairs doesn’t reach the upper floor very well, so I purchased this… So far, it does a great job and it’s fairly quiet… Much more quiet that the old window A/C units.
Anyway, happy so far.

I haven't had to test it at +100 degrees yet, but it blows very cold air and I love that it has 2 window hoses to prevent negative pressure issues. It's a little loud but it's not too bad and more like white noise. So far I'm very happy with it!

A Mild Inconvenience, Overall, OK

The unit produces too much water. We are using an external water connection piece instead of the internal. If we used the internal, it would shut off frequently. We have to dump the water pan at least twice per day. The location of the water hose also makes it difficult to put a pan under it. This was not disclosed until we got the unit home. Other than this inconvenience, it cools well.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It's normal for the tank to fill more quickly when the unit is first run, especially in high humidity, but as the room dries out, the water collection will decrease. Since you're using the external connection, you may want to explore the continuous drainage option for added convenience—setup instructions can be found on page 10 of the Owner’s Manual. The Owner’s Manual can be viewed at the bottom of the Features tab on the product page of the Best Buy website. We're glad to hear that the unit is cooling effectively overall! Lauren@GEAppliances

Was looking for an A/C with inverter technology. Have been using it for a week and it works well in the morning. However, at night i will wake up feeling hot, so i lower the temperature 3 degrees. Also ive had it set to 70 and it will turn off, i put the temperature down 2 degrees and it doenst turn on. I have to press it a few times for it to turn on. Overall the unit works.

Cools the room good, is a little loud. If you put it on high to cools the room fast. I just got it so I don’t know how well it will perform in the long run, or how energy efficient it is. But I like it so far.
Just wish it was cheaper
I wish the bracket that you install in the window was a better design, this unit is quite big. But it works so there’s that.
