    the "good" ice!

the good: of course the ice - If you’re looking at purchasing one of these, then somehow the “good ice” is on your radar. And this makes exactly that, just like allll the other reviews mention. It really is fantastic ice, as much as ice can be fantastic. I will say, everyone in my house is constantly using it, instead of those giant-white-freezer-made-impossible-to-chew-rocklike slabs of ice from the refrigerator. These are awesome! faster production than the previous model - If you’ve had a previous model of this ice machine (the naming convention makes no sense to me…my previous model was a 2.0, but this is a 1.0, available only at Best Buy…is it new? same but different? I have no idea. I do feel like it makes ice faster than my previous model did though. flip top lid - Random, but since it’s a flip top lid, you can open it and it still captures the produced ice. The previous model, you pulled the basket out and while you were getting ice, any ice produced just falls behind the basket into the water reservoir. Certainly splitting hairs here, but kind of cool either way. the bad: no more included plastic tray - In previous models, there is a small plastic tray that sits in front of the unit, helps to collect water and a good place to lay the scooper. This tray seems to be missing in this design. Not a huge deal, but worth mentioning. finish - The finish seems to be a little more susceptible to scratches and fingerprints than previous generations. misc: no wifi - Do we really need our ice machine to be connected? I’m not personally missing this feature. modern design - A little more angular than previous generations. Again, not a huge deal. overall: Time will tell whether this design holds up long term. My previous gen Opal started slowing down a bit right at the 2 year mark….it hasn’t stopped yet, but it’s definitely getting slower in its old age (and yes I’ve cleaned/descaled it, doesn’t seem to matter.) In any case, I’d give it a solid 4.5 stars, but since we can’t rate 1/2 stars…5 stars it is.

The GE Profile Opal 1.0 Nugget Ice Maker is a game-changer for ice enthusiasts and those who love the chewable, nugget-style ice you often find in restaurants and cafes. This countertop ice maker offers a convenient and efficient way to enjoy your favorite ice at home. One of the standout features is the speed at which it produces ice. In just 20 minutes, you can have a full bin of ice, making it perfect for entertaining guests or simply satisfying your ice cravings on demand. It can produce up to 24 pounds of ice in a day, ensuring you have an ample supply for various occasions. The nugget ice produced is a unique and enjoyable texture. It's soft, chewable, and absorbs the flavors of your beverages, making it ideal for cocktails, smoothies, and other drinks. The Opal 1.0 excels in this department, replicating the ice you'd typically find in high-end restaurants. Operating the ice maker is straightforward, thanks to its user-friendly controls and LED display. You can adjust the ice cube size, initiate a cleaning cycle, or check the ice level with just a few taps. It also has a useful feature that senses when the bin is full, preventing overflows and ensuring efficient operation. Maintenance is relatively hassle-free. The Opal 1.0 comes with a built-in self-cleaning function that helps keep the ice clean and free from impurities. It's important to note that like all ice makers, regular cleaning and maintenance are necessary to ensure optimal performance and hygiene. The design of this appliance is sleek and modern, making it a stylish addition to any kitchen or bar area. It's compact and fits conveniently on the countertop, so you won't need to allocate much space for it. The stainless steel exterior is not only visually appealing but also durable.

    Vibration issue

The GE Profile Opal 1.0 Nugget Ice Maker with the Side Tank is a rally good ice making machine. The Ice is very soft and goes great with many drinks. I did give it 3 stars for one very simple reason and that reason is that it is very loud. It seems that one of the metallic panels on the side vibrates and can get annoying after a while. Additionally, not a huge deal but it would be nice to be able to fill up the side tank without the need to remove it from the base as it seems the only way to fill it up is to remove the base and unscrew a cap. If the vibration issue was a flaw with my machine only and others do not have this issue, I would have given it 5 stars. But over all very satisfied with the ice maker and the side tank allows you to have enough water as it can fit up to 5 of the normal .5L water bottles. I had not enjoyed soft ice like this unless i bought a drink for a fast-food restaurant. I would say this is a good ice maker but the be careful incase yours vibrates also. The capacity is great and it makes ice very fast.

Our refrigerator / freezer like most new ones have a built in ice maker that does the usual long & narrow ice. They need a plumbed source of water, and tend to be on the slower side I wanted an ice maker for my small upstairs kitchen, that is quick, quiet and make small nuggets. This was a perfect fit When I picked it up, I was kinda overwhelmed with the size of the box. Once I started unboxing, it showed to be just the right size. The ice maker is wrapped in dunnage, in a box, inside another box Fast forward to the first use. I expected it to be on the loud side, but this is very quiet. I would compare it to a small fan. When you are next to it, you can tell it is making ice, but maybe 10’ away it is no longer heard The basket is not large - maybe enough to fill a couple of tumblers to the top. What it lacks in volume, it makes up in speed. Initially your first nuggets will be ready in minutes and the basket will be full in about 30 So what did I not care for? The ice scoop is buried in the ice and the slot that holds it is at the bottom of the ice. You can’t find the slot to pit it back unless you dig And the instruction manual is virtually non existent. I checked on the web and still had little luck besides marketing materials So, follow what the manual says for the lines and initial cleaning, and fill the side tank only. Do not fill the bottom of the tray if you are using the tank or you will be cleaning up spilt water. The water goes back and forth to the tank, so set and leave. Do not lift it to see if it is working

Thanks for sharing your feedback. It's normal for your Opal ice maker to make sounds during normal operation. We recommend you review the "Normal Operating Sounds" section on pg. 11 of the Owner's Manual. GE_Appliances

    The "Good Ice" Ice Maker

This machine is absolutely fantastic! I have always loved the "good ice" you can get from restaurants and when I found out you could get it from a machine at home, I jumped on the opportunity! The ice comes out perfectly crunchy and, I feel like it disperses throughout my drink cup better in order to more evenly cool my beverage. Keep in mind, this ice maker is pretty large! It takes up a considerable amount of counter space. Also, you cannot put it completely up against the back of the counter. The fan pulls air from the sides of the unit and blows it out the back of the unit, so if you put it directly against the back wall of a countertop the air flow will not be enough for the machine. The water tank is a very nice edition. I am not really a huge van of the slant on the top of the water tank. I understand that it is a design piece to match the machine itself, but it sure would be nice to be able to sit the water tank down flat on the counter top when attempting to fill up the water tank. The way it is built, you have to hold it during the fill up. You can certainly use the machine without it, however, you will run out of ice much quicker. The ice maker also has a feature that stops it from making ice if the lid has not been lifted after a certain amount of time. I like that because I feel like it won't run unnecessarily. The included ice scoop was a nice touch. The lid of the ice maker is well insulated and the ice does not melt very fast at all when the machine is not running. The machine comes with very detailed instructions about setup, as some assembly is required to connect water lines to the water tank. I have not used the ice machine long enough to have to clean it, however, the instructions that detail the cleaning process seem to be fairly simple. If you are a fan of the "good ice" then this ice maker is for you!

What is there not to love about this ice maker? Nugget ice is by far the best ice (hands down) and this ice maker does not disappoint! I have a medium-sized family and it was able to keep up with our ice needs consistently. Of course, not everyone was making drinks at the exact same time, but seeing as the production time was fast and it could hold up to three pounds of ice, we never had any issues. The ice itself is great! Perfect consistency for chewing; It didn't hurt my teeth or make my jaw sore. The build quality is great, and the footprint isn't bad. I had no problem placing it on my countertop. The side tank is absolutely necessary purely for convenience and ease of use. I spend less time filling it back up and more time enjoying my ice! I definitely recommend thoroughly cleaning the ice maker before using it the first time. Additionally don't forget to clean it regularly. I prefer to fill my Opal with distilled water so that I won't have to clean it as often. Overall, I'd say if you're looking for a nugget ice maker, this is a great option!

The ice made ,small cubes, is not "hard" frozen, as soon as it is dr opped in water it melts. The noice is lauder than expected. In the summer heat probably will be enough for a couple.
