We have had it for about a month and absolutely love it! Easy to set up and refill. Cleaning is easy as well. We love sonic ice and this is the closest thing I have found for home use. It is very well insulated and keeps the ice frozen inside. It is a little pricey but for us the convenience is worth it. I definitely would recommend to family and friends.

I have one in my house and it is used every day. My father in law comes over to my house and fills up a cup multiple times per day, so we decided to buy him one for his house. He loves it and hasn't had any issues or complaints. The ice is amazing, you get what you pay for with this ice maker.

This is a really nice ice maker for the price. It is a little loud, but it starts producing ice within 10-15 minutes and the basket is full within an hour or so.

I absolutely love my pebble ice machine! It’s a total game-changer for my home. The ice comes out soft, chewable, and perfectly sized every time, just like the ice from my favorite restaurants. It’s super easy to use, with a simple setup and clear instructions. The machine is fast, producing a good amount of ice in a short time, and it’s surprisingly quiet for its size. I also appreciate the compact design, which fits perfectly on my counter without taking up too much space. Overall, it’s been a fantastic purchase—5 stars all the way!

Ice is not something many people think about, but it is essential in many ways. For someone like myself, I do not consider it a luxury but more of a necessity. And this ice machine is useful in ways you probably do not even know. I did not honestly know that I even needed one. Most people have an ice maker built into their refrigerator, but speaking from experience, they can be hit or miss because various issues can arise, and having to troubleshoot or call a repairman just to diagnose or fix the issue is a headache.
:::General Thoughts:::
The box is heavy but for good reason because this machine is heavy and I found it to be well packaged. You will find the ice maker itself a scoop for the ice, the reservoir (side tank) instruction pamphlet and that is pretty much it. Assembly was easy and did not require much if you read the provided instructions then you will be alright. This is a lot larger than I would like but beggars cannot be choosers it did not fit on my countertop so make sure that you have an adequate amount of space for this.
After setup I found that in less than an hour, I had ice ready to use. That is impressive and he ice cubes are tiny and awesome. I placed mine in my dinning room because it is a convenient location for me. After using this for some time I honestly prefer it over the one in my fridge which freezes for whatever reason all the time. Lifting a lid and scooping out ice without a fuss is awesome. And it is perfect for those who enjoying hosting and having company over. It is even useful in terms of first aid you just open the lid scoop some ice into a towel or Ziploc bag and done. These are just instances in where I found myself using the ice machine, I am sure there may be other useful situations but each consumer is different.
:::Pros & Con’s:::
Pros:
- Easy to set up
- Easy to use
- Awesome to have
- Low maintenance
Cons:
- Takes up a lot of space
:::Closing thoughts:::
There is a whole lot to like here and very little to complain about. I have found the GE Opal 1.0 to be very useful. I would say if there is another iteration then please make it a tad smaller so that it will fit into even more spaces and places. I love my Opal and use it daily and can not see myself without now.
:::TL;DR:::
You like ICE? Yes then go and get this it is what you did not know you needed.

Got this as a Christmas gift for my wife. So far, she loves it because it makes “the good ice” for drinks. My only complaint is it’s a little loud when making ice, but then again it is an ice maker, lol. Wife says it’s bulky. We are still learning how to use it.

I am soo happy I now have the GE Opal 1 icemaker because I have wanted to make edible ice and ice that would work in drinks without the traditional larger cubes for a long time, this is perfect! It makes ice really quickly, although it takes longer depending on how many times you are opening the lid and the temperature inside your home. The initial ice is barely frozen and in a very small quantity. It's more like 15-20 mins before you get enough good ice for a few drinks if starting from scratch but I just leave mine running.
What I wasn't expecting is how quiet the unit is, Others have stated it's fairly loud and even the instructions have a half page dedicated to "normal operating sounds". However it's not obnoxiously loud. It's more like a coffee maker level of sound. It does vibrate a bit though, so depending on the surface you put it on or where on your countertop it's sitting (corner is louder than by itself) and depending on your house, it may be anywhere from tolerable to maybe putting a rubber mat underneath it.. I did notice that the metal shell of the ice maker tended to rattle so I ended up solving that by having a small piece of foam padding that I managed to slide inside of it and that stopped the rattle. Other reviewers took the shell off and added padding to the inside, but I wasn't prepared to void my warranty quite yet. The small piece of foam works well enough.
With that being said, I don't think the noise/vibration is a deal breaker. It makes ice relatively quickly, so I have been turning it on when I need ice, then turning it off 30 mins later when the hopper is mostly full during the week. This works for me as the ice stays frozen for quite a while after I turn it off, and I'm the only one taking ice from it. If you have a lot of people in your house that want ice all the time, this strategy obviously won't work for you. I love this thing!
I took off 1 star because of the vibration, but otherwise this seems to be an icemaker that works as advertised and is from a reliable brand. If you are looking for a nugget ice maker and don't need large volumes of ice, this is a great solution that is easy to setup, easy to use and seems well thought out.

Great Nugget Ice But Non-Original Machine

I have super mixed feeling about this machine. This being the GE Opal line of nugget ice makers, I had assumed that GE would have developed a super amazing new machine to deliver the perfect nugget ice and make a machine that would fit well and look good in my kitchen. This machine DOES make good nugget ice - no complaints there. However, it is EXACTLY THE SAME as a dozen other machines available just with GE branding. I know this because we already had one of those machines! We got this and took it out of the box and immediately my spouse was like "This is exactly the same as the one we have!" And is - it's rebranded and the button placement is slightly different, but it's the same exact shape and size and makes the exact same ice. Now, again, the ice is great - the machine we already had makes great nugget ice. But we got this one thinking it would be even better - that it was going to be a unique design be GE engineers that would be a step up from the other one. We also should have looked closer at the dimensions - it's a rather large and tall machine. You need a large kitchen with lots of counter space to leave this set up all the time. The one we had before we only use when we have parties and we ordered this one thinking we'd leave it running and use it all the time, but since it's exactly the same as that one, that's not going to happen.
Overall, the machine works well (just like the one we already had with different branding). It starts making ice within 10 minutes or so and within an hour or two you have a basket of ice. It just keeps making ice and the ice continually melts and is recycled back to make more ice - this allows the ice to stay nice and soft/crunchy like cool restaurant ice. The machine is fairly easy to use - just add water to the bin and start it up. With the bonus tank you an hook that up and fill that with water so it can keep going for longer without you having to add water or having to remove the ice basket to add water which is nice.
The machine does look good - it's nice and sleek and very polished. The only negative is that it is a bit of a behemoth in terms of size. It fits under our cabinets but with only an inch or two to spare and it's fairly wide and very deep so it overall has a rather large footprint. For us, it's too big to leave on the counter as a permanent fixture and therefore will be something we'll use only for parties/events a few times a year.
Overall, this is a good machine that does make the nugget ice you know and love. But it's not unique to GE as many other companies are selling the exact same machine with their branding. And the overall size definitely makes it something that many people just won't have room for. But if you're dying for good nugget ice, then it's definitely a machine to consider because the ice is great.

My life is forever changed! Having an unlimited supply of “the good ice” has changed my hydration level and attitude for the better. I start my day with an iced coffee and switch from there to iced water with flavoring ALL DAY. I have had it a couple weeks and so far it’s everything I could have dreamed it would be. 100% recommend! The only con is its bigger than I thought it would be. It takes up allot of real-estate in our tiny apartment kitchen, but WORTH IT.

If you love the small ice similar to the popular fast food chain types, this is the ice maker for you. Our Samsung refrigerator ice maker kept having issues, so I finally turned it off and bought this instead of replacing the entire refrigerator. It makes enough ice with the side tank for two of us working from home. We refill it with filtered water and the cleaning/descaling process is averaging monthly.

I was hesitant to get one of these ice makers because our fridge makes ice just fine. My wife had been wanting one for a while so i got it for her for Christmas. After a couple weeks of use, we both love it. I love the small crunchy nuggets. Overall the machine itself is very good quality and runs great. Anyone that comes over now asks for the good ice in their drink.

Only complaint is the noise and with an open floor plan it’s unavoidable. The ice is great, it’s always full. I did remove the side tank because I assumed it caused excess noise but it only helped a little. It’s easy enough to fill when the add water light goes on.

After reading reviews of the newer GE models, I purchased this older model from BB and it is amazing. Have had it for a few weeks and makes great pebble ice. We have it on during the day and take the ice leftover over store in a ziplock bag in the freezer for future use. Purchased the extended warranty should this model kick the bucket over the next four years.

We got this to use in a bar area in a family room. Perhaps we had too high of expectation on the thirty minutes to ice claim. It took 35 minutes to make the first nugget and about three hours to make enough ice for one drink. You must periodically open the lid to get it to make more ice, but it does keep the ice it has made frozen for quite a while. For our use of 2-3 glasses of ice a day it’s doing the job. It probably would be fine for 5-6 glasses of ice a day. We haven’t had any company lately, but we don’t have confidence that it would keep up with you if you had company over for a party. You’d definitely want to have the side tank filled after making sure it made ice to fill itself so it could keep making ice.
At one point the tube to the side water tank was dripping ever so slowly but we pushed it further on and that seems to have stopped. Wish the side tank had just a simple lid on top and that we could fill it that way. You get water spillage when you take it off and put it back on since it’s an upside-down configuration.
It’s not very noisy but it is noticeable when it’s running. We think it sounds like a very quiet dishwasher or refrigerator hum. It’s a little larger than we expected but we don’t have anything to compare it to – it’s our first stand-alone ice maker.
