Love it! There's no denying that it's a big big, but it holds A LOT of ice, and the ice is nice and small ... not chips, but nuggets. As recommended, have been using distilled water, and the resulting product is clear and clean tasting. It's a bit of a process to sanitize which is recommended to be done every week although I have been doing it every month without buildup. It has quiet operation, and the digital displays are clear to read. It was absolutely a pricey purchase, but do consider it worth the money.

Took us a while to decide to purchase based on the price. It works as intended and makes great ice. But as i said in the title it’s quite loud. We have an open layout kitchen & living room and the thing hardly ever stops making noise. It’s an almost constant droning sound. Considering returning it and just going back to the old ice.

Makes the best ice. Only drawback is the regularly cleaning needed so often

My wife loves this thing more than any other kitchen gadgets ive gotten both of us for years. It runs great and makes the perfect small ice we loved as kids and ate on years ago. Reminds us of Dairy Queen ice but better. Running strong so far and non stop.

After about 6 months the ice maker stopped making ice. Ive read you must do a deeper cleaning like your Dentist lol. Besides the regular monthly cleaning you must un screw the maker and clean out the water reservoir which holds some very slimmy stuff. Once thats done screw back and you should have clean ice again. But if your like me i dont have time to operate on the machine. But refuse to purchase a new one. I need a quicker solution or a self cleaning system. Great ice tho

I love this ice maker. Makes the perfect chewy ice. I will be purchasing the extra tank to hold more water. I agree it is noisy. Thankfully I have an adjacent office that I keep it in so it doesn't bother me. No way I could keep it in my kitchen.

This is an awesome little machine.. it does make amazing ice and also some quirky little noises but we have gotten used to the sound of it running and love it! It was a Christmas gift for my husband who loves his nugget ice and we all enjoy it now!

I love the ease and how quickly it makes the ice . Taste just like chik fil a ice. Easy to clean and refill

I wanted a nugget Ice maker for a long time. When my little bullet ice maker finally died... we upgraded to this and I love it. It's a little putzy to clean but works great and i have fresh chewable ice all the time.

I have used other ice makers and had issues with them but this was great right out of the box. Super easy to set up and makes the 'good' ice!

Love this ice maker. The only complaint I have is that you can not attach a water line otherwise a great machine. Makes ice fast which is crucial in a large household. I would highly recommend buying the warranty.

Somewhat finicky to keep operating. Ice is as specified. Very large form factor on the kitchen counter. Bought extended warranty due to negative reports on reliability.

Very happy with this ice maker! I went through 2-3 others prior to this one replacing every 6-12. Works efficiently and always have my favorite ice on hand! All guests and family enjoy their drinks with this ice!

I bought the new GE opal 2.0 after upgrading from the previous addition 1.0. The new model comes with Bluetooth connection and remote operation which I never thought I would use but I find using quite frequently to turn it off when I’m watching television or turning it on in the morning. The bin seems to be larger and more efficient and quieter. Five stars.

I got this for my partner for the holidays and its their favorite gift I’ve ever gotten them. It makes a lot of ice and fast, it doesnt melt super quick and the smart features are a nice touch. The cleaning is pretty intense, but the notification if when cleaning is required has ensured that we always have good tasting ice and that its functioning correctly. Highly recommend this, however, know that its pretty massive and we live in an apartment so it basically has its own counter… we use A LOT of ice though. Perfect for us!

Machine works great making nugget ice and is stylish, Its louder than other cheaper icemakers, but not that bad. However, despite following required servicing and using the Opal cleaner, it failed within 15 months of use. Started leaking then overheating and stopped working all together. Well documented issues with this model apparently that GE has not addressed.

Great by BestBuy, Terrible service by GE,this is my second exchanged and machine starting with the loud noise again just before the end of the warranty.Based on engineering documentation, the Opal unit is performing as designed, therefore, this would not be considered a manufacturer's defect. We have created a case # and documented your concern regarding the noise. If in the future your unit experience sounds or noises not deemed normal, we will review your documentation and escalate for alternative resolutions. Please see below regarding normal sounds and noises. This is what i got from them. The following describes the sounds or noises that are normal and what may be creating them. WHIR - When Opal is first turned on, you may notice the condenser fan spinning. BUZZ - When the water pump first turns on, it may be dry and slightly noisy. Once it is filled with water the noise reduces significantly. RATTLE - A rattling noise may be produced from the flow of the refrigerant. This noise should reduce significantly once the refrigerant system has stabilized. GURGLE - When the refrigerant system shuts off, there may be a brief gurgle as the refrigerant stops flowing. HUM - The compressor is a motor. It produces a low tone humming sound while it is running. CHUGGING - When the unit first starts up, the gear motor can make a chugging noise. This noise should be considerably reduced after 15 to 20 minutes, once the Opal starts making ice. CLICK - As nugget ice is produced it drops into the ice drawer. The first nuggets produced make the loudest sound as they fall directly onto the bottom of the ice bin. As the bin fills, this noise reduces significantly. SQUEAK - When Opal is in need of defrosting, it may start to squeak as ice starts to build up around the mechanisms. The defrost cycle is automatic and may take 10 to 45 minutes. PUMPING WATER - At the start of ice making, Opal will flush the system with water for approximately 5 minutes. You may see or hear water running during this process. This is normal. If your Opal seems loud during this process, it may need more water. This is normal functionality of the icemaker. Although the noise is not expected to be eliminated altogether, as an attempt to keep it at a minimal, we suggest that you attempt to descale the icemaker by using warm, distilled vinegar. So far so good! This is the third nugget ice maker I have purchased. With each passing model, major upgrades have been made! I just hope this lasts long than the previous 2.
