I have had my ice maker for a month now. I bought it to replace a broken ice maker from another company. I love this ice maker, it is quiet, keeps the ice cold as long as the ice maker stays on. I don’t have the extra water tank and I fill the reservoir about every other day. My household uses this machine 24/7 and we love it. It is easy to clean and maintain. I do not regret buying this machine even though the cost was a little more than I wanted to spend.

This is fabulous! It is easy to set up, easy to clean, easy to operate, and not that noisy. The ice is wonderful. I bought the water tank to go with it and definitely recommend doing the same.

I’ve been eyeing this ice maker for months and finally bought it a few weeks ago. I love it. The noise mentioned in some reviews doesn’t bother me at all and I have Sonic ice all the time.

Machine works great making nugget ice and is stylish, Its louder than other cheaper icemakers, but not that bad. However, despite following required servicing and using the Opal cleaner, it failed within 15 months of use. Started leaking then overheating and stopped working all together. Well documented issues with this model apparently that GE has not addressed.

Obviously this item is not cheap but if you don't mind spending the money, it's worth it. The setup process is straight forward for flushing out the internals. From there, fill the internal tank with roughly 75oz of water and let the machine work. You'll have ice to crunch on in under 10 minutes. The main reason I purchased this was for my 18m old daughter. She really enjoys chewing on ice while teething and our refrigerator only has cubes which makes that tough. My wife has always been a fan of this style ice so that helped our decision as well. We call it "The Good Ice". If you've ever had this style of ice, you know what I mean.

This machine is GREAT, I love it and don’t regret buying it- even though it was super expensive. However, buy the extended warranty!!! GE won’t help you beyond the one year mark and if you use it everyday it will break. Best Buy replaced my old machine when it rusted two years in, no issue.

I got this for my partner for the holidays and its their favorite gift I’ve ever gotten them. It makes a lot of ice and fast, it doesnt melt super quick and the smart features are a nice touch. The cleaning is pretty intense, but the notification if when cleaning is required has ensured that we always have good tasting ice and that its functioning correctly. Highly recommend this, however, know that its pretty massive and we live in an apartment so it basically has its own counter… we use A LOT of ice though. Perfect for us!

Great by BestBuy, Terrible service by GE,this is my second exchanged and machine starting with the loud noise again just before the end of the warranty.Based on engineering documentation, the Opal unit is performing as designed, therefore, this would not be considered a manufacturer's defect. We have created a case # and documented your concern regarding the noise. If in the future your unit experience sounds or noises not deemed normal, we will review your documentation and escalate for alternative resolutions. Please see below regarding normal sounds and noises. This is what i got from them. The following describes the sounds or noises that are normal and what may be creating them. WHIR - When Opal is first turned on, you may notice the condenser fan spinning. BUZZ - When the water pump first turns on, it may be dry and slightly noisy. Once it is filled with water the noise reduces significantly. RATTLE - A rattling noise may be produced from the flow of the refrigerant. This noise should reduce significantly once the refrigerant system has stabilized. GURGLE - When the refrigerant system shuts off, there may be a brief gurgle as the refrigerant stops flowing. HUM - The compressor is a motor. It produces a low tone humming sound while it is running. CHUGGING - When the unit first starts up, the gear motor can make a chugging noise. This noise should be considerably reduced after 15 to 20 minutes, once the Opal starts making ice. CLICK - As nugget ice is produced it drops into the ice drawer. The first nuggets produced make the loudest sound as they fall directly onto the bottom of the ice bin. As the bin fills, this noise reduces significantly. SQUEAK - When Opal is in need of defrosting, it may start to squeak as ice starts to build up around the mechanisms. The defrost cycle is automatic and may take 10 to 45 minutes. PUMPING WATER - At the start of ice making, Opal will flush the system with water for approximately 5 minutes. You may see or hear water running during this process. This is normal. If your Opal seems loud during this process, it may need more water. This is normal functionality of the icemaker. Although the noise is not expected to be eliminated altogether, as an attempt to keep it at a minimal, we suggest that you attempt to descale the icemaker by using warm, distilled vinegar. Makes great ice!! Drawback is that it is very noisy

Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE. Wish we would have bought it sooner. Some people say it’s loud. Unless I’m purposely listening for it, I do not notice the noise.

My wife used to spend up to $10 a day buying sonic drinks just for the nugget ice - now - she has it at home. We did purchase the additional tank - and I honestly can't imagine using it without - it definitely keeps the ice making constantly. I thought this was a little pricey - but in all actuality - it will pay for itself within 2 months.

Awesome machine, wife mentioned she wanted one so i surprised her for her birthday. She loved it so much i often find it in our bedroom when i get home from work. My wife must have also picked up smoking because theres also always cigarette buts by the night stand and hot oils. Slowly shes been locking me out of the room which is ok, i respect her privacy and she must just really love that ice machine. Thanks again.

Quick & Easy to use! I haven't run out of ice since I purchased this ice maker. The chewable crushed ice is a hit with the entire family.

Works as described. Nice fresh nugget ice at the ready. Only complaint is water reservoir refill is a bit clumsy without the added tank.

This makes great ice that everyone loves. Similiar to sonic ice. My first one the light burntbout eithin a year and the whole unit was replaced. The one issue i have is that it needs cleaned regularly and the cleaning process is cumbersome.

This is probably the best appliance purchase I have made in years. It runs nonstop, gives us ice cubes that are the perfect size for so many drinks, we supply filtered water so don’t have filters to change and requires very minimal maintenance.

I always try to leave a positive review. The Opal 2.0 makes absolutely the best ice for ice eating and drinks. However it also has a history of being noisy and has quit working all together after 4 months. Customer support is not the greatest, called after a month to find out if the noise was normal and all they said was do a clean cycle.
